Recommended Posts

Reputation Guideline version 1.1 dated 10/10/2010

1. How to give reputation ?

Members when they come across good, meaningful, helpful articles, can Postitive Vote (+) the post.

A Positive Reputation Point will be immediately given to the author of that post. Opposite applies for bad posts.

(For members, you can see the +/- at the Bottom Right Hand Corner of this post)

By default, all post with points below a threshold of zero are hidden. See the bottom bar at the base of this page to change this threshold.

By default, everyone in the system starts from a base of ZERO reputation.

2. When should I give positive reputation ?

Positive reputation are given for authors (members or guest) who post meaningful, helpful and thoughtful posts.

A post that contributes positively to the thread probably deserves positive reputation. You need not agree with what he said but it may be a good point nonetheless, and worthy of a pat on the back.

Giving positive reputation to a member only because he is cute/your friend is not a good reason.

3. When should I give negative reputation ?

Negative reputation are given for authors (members or guest) who post rude, inappropriate, breaks forum rules, is not gracious, etc. A post that detracts from the threads can be given negative reputation too.

Having a personal grudge with someone, or he is not your type, is NOT an appropriate reason to give negative reputation. Giving negative reputation because you don't agree with what was said is also not an appropriate use of the reputation system. At BlowingWind, we believe people are entitled to their own opinions, and just because you don't agree doesn't mean the user was wrong or not contributing to the thread.

4. Is the reputation system an "accurate" reflection of reality ?

The reputation system is a "social experiment", how good the result will ultimately depend on the members care and attention in awarding the reputations.

5. Is there any built-in limitations to prevent abuse ?

a. Only registered members can award reputation.

b. A member can only award 3 reputation points a day.

c. To prevent members from quickly manufacturing "clones" to usurp the system, all new members must wait 30 days before he can award reputation.

d. Member cannot give himself reputation.

e. Member can see who gave him and others (+ve, -ve)reputation for an article; by clicking on the Reputation Point on each article.

6. To further ensure that the above guidelines are adhered to, the moderators will not hesitate to suspend/ban members and delete their clones in cases of abuse.
