Guest Guest
While queue to pay at NTUC, saw thr snaking queue for Toto. I am surprised to see our Singapore soldiers also queue to buy toto!! Lead me to think a few questions. 1-are they too lowly paid? These are officers not ns men. Salary too low that they have trouble providing for their families that they have to bet on toto? 2-should they use the time to protect the country instead of wasting time queue for toto? 3-they are in uniform, its a very bad image for mindef when our soldiers in uniform are seen gambling. What are your thoughts?

Not hard and fast rule written down, but definitely one of those unspoken ones that says you shouldn't do anything that might reflect badly on the SAF. Buying Toto in uniform can be considered as gambling and hence I wouldn't be surprised that if for example the soldiers in question got Stomped MINDEF and their unit once identified will surely make a fuss about it. That's why last time till now they encourage so much for soldiers to change into civilian attire before booking out. Easy way to avoid any such problems of oversensitive and overzealous public judgemental busybodies getting a stick to beat MINDEF with. And you always get upset if other people object to your very personal view on morality. Even if a soldier stands in a queue at a toto shop with his hard dick showing through his military pants and listening to gay porn, which everyone can hear in the queue because the handphone is switched to fullest noise level, it is nothing of your business. The standard civil servants (and in particular NS soldiers) are not on the high end level of salary earners. Plus they have free time. I don't think those soldiers would queue up during their work shift. Why can't they try their luck to win a Toto? And what would be the difference if they buy Toto for 22 Dollars or visit a gay sauna in uniform for 22 Dollars (or hire a prostitute for 200 dollars (no happy ending guaranteed) ??? your views are so bizarre and deranged.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ He mate kai e rokohanga, he mate anu ekore e rokohanga. gstc82
19 minutes ago, Nightingale said: There is a Chinese saying 少见多怪 meaning if something is rare, it will raise eyebrows, e.g. if 2 guys are seen kissing in public, there will be negative reaction. The same goes with 2 girls mutually French kissing. Certainly it is rare to see uniformed airline crew buying Toto. Similarly, we do not see cooks, judges, doctors, for instance, wearing their uniforms while buying Toto or at hawker centres or taking public transport. Now if these people buy Toto in plain clothes minus uniform, no eyebrows will be raised. But if they were to wear a chef’s attire plus chef hat, barrister wig etc, it is natural that people will look twice because of the rare sight. Yet, NSF soldiers queuing up in public places like hawker centres, shopping malls, bus stations etc. is not an uncommon sight, so I don’t see what the hoo-ha is all about. Secondly, we do see factory workers, bus drivers, cleaners and other blue collar workers WEARING THEIR UNIFORMS while buying Toto. So the question is – why do we use different yardsticks for different occupations? They are all human beings. Thirdly, let us go one step further. Assume that there was this very wealthy person who queued up to buy Toto. He/She was not in any uniform but just wearing plain T-shirt and pants. But he/she could be recognised immediately as he/she was famous – could be a VIP celebrity, actor/actress, pop star, famous DJ, or even a Member of Parliament. How would you react? Would it tarnish his or her image? If you raise eyebrows and consider this behaviour “undesirable” or image spoiling, whose problem is it? Yours or his/hers? According to Buddhism, the unrest is in your mind because technically, there is nothing illegal or illicit, egregious or atrocious to warrant criticism. If you can liberate your mind from all these prejudices, stereotypes and self-imposed restrictions, everything will be ok. GSTC82: Just empty your posts from your initial response and the others and Nightingale will do the same. We shouldn't offend here others. There are plenty who write worse things here. Thanks.
