There was a lot of outcry online, but knowing China for being China, the political system is different and geared in such a top-down manner that it is pointless since the government's words are absolute.

Have you seen sleeveless Jingyu in Bangkok? HOT.

Pictures of him being "lost" in Siam Paragon, trying to find the concert hall. LOL

Blurred clips...probably later might have clear ones.

Jingyu singing at Amei's concert....can recognise his voice. Wonder why Weizhou wasn't invited too?

The following include the above 2 songs....but also some dialogue.

快乐大本营 ...the parts where Jingyu and Weizhou wrestled.

XWZ's management want to charge a premium price? Jingyu's asking price might be cheaper or even free for A-mei

Read about this article about Guhai originally based on this guy....think some photographer mentioned it. Well, the author did mention the chars are based on her classmates...but can't be related b'cos different background and cities etc.

But the guy they mentioned is indeed very manly and muscular....haha...my type.

They also mention the 1st version of Guhai and more pics on him. Mmm....he got his own charm...but with his tall height, he's too lean compared to Jingyu.

http://toutiao.com/i6265462434132132354/

And more on the 1st muscular guy....he seems to have his "Yinzi" too....boyfriend. More pics and background :

Usually would ignore some rumors.....this one also unlikely but the thoughts of these actors acting as Guhai or Yinzi if to film in taiwan....i would vomit...rather they never make season 2.

Oh my goodness. That much hunkiness and sculptedness is too much for a commoner like me. Still prefer JY and WZ.

Info and pics on some upcoming gay-themed movie/dramas from china mainland in 2016. But given the restrictions in china now...don't know when or whether will be shown or not.

http://fz54661226.wix.com/zoef-cdramas

灵界基友 movie

From the title....i suspect it's about ghost....but i don't see any ghostly stuff in the MV. Only that one guy is really muscular....he often wore black tee...and those arms. The other guy apparently look like a....errr....not-so-manly type. Imagine the bigger guy dominating him....hahaha.

Another one also related to some spiritual stuff (from the thai item mentioned in title)....mmm.....is it b'cos if combined gay theme with something else....or gay theme plays a smaller part....easier to pass the censors?

虐爱之古曼童

Think one of the actors is from thailand. And the bods are not bad too...esp if look at 2nd clip.

*****************************

Ok....next is not trailer....it's full clip.

爱上她的他

Taiwan web series....5 episodes of around 8mins each. Here they link into a 40mins clip. I find it explores more from the girlfriend's side. It's about this girl who found her bf behaving strangely and spied on him....only to discover it's not another girl. Nothing revealing....only a male-to-male kiss after 20mins. Wish they would do another series on these 2 guys.

If anyone is interested the live broadcast of the event tonight is available here

edit:

The entire cast is in tears now after they showed them the Thai fan made video on screen, they seem to be deeply touched by the support from a foreign land.

Throughout the entire event, XWZ and HZY did not get much chance to be next to each other. In the beginning XWZ walked over to join HZY only for a few seconds then he was asked almost immediately by one crew member to go back to his original spot for whatever reason. Regardless the money shots were made

This fan meeting marks the end of all promotion activities for 上瘾. At the same time the producer CJD made an announcement on weibo, stating that she regretted for not filming till the car accident scene due to some money issues. Making it sort of an official statement that there won't be any season 2. :-(

Saw that coming, it's indeed sad. Prior to this I was hoping that they may have a few more unreleased episodes from Season 1 (it ended too abruptly for me) but with this news about Season 2 it also confirms all episodes in Season 1 have been released. :(

Okaylah everyone, let's not be too miserable about this. It's just a show. Time to find something else to occupy our time while we wait for a miracle to happen.

No point fixating so hard on one thing for too long. Life is all about variety and change. :P

Or we can just meet up and console each other as we binge watch the series again and discuss our favorite parts and our favorite boys.

Finally the 2 MVs are out....so they are the same song....just different video for the 2 couples.

Guhai and Luoyin at the beach. When they shouted out their char names and looked at each other with those eyes....... sigh.....going to miss them.

What a way to end this beautiful series with the release of the two MVs! I absolutely love watching the beach scene! It's probably not far from where I'm at with the novel reading,  currently at the part where Gu Yang has just appeared in the storyline. Just like @nixorn I am reading my first chinese novel because of this series! LOL! Enjoy and you'll be amazed how fast you will learn the beijing chinese language! LOL!

Oh, such a pity that there is no more continuation for this drama.

Guess would have to find time to read the novel, haha.

Happy - is what we should be, always.

I must say after watching the series, it does help to visualize the novel better.

Hi guys. The novel is in English? Please share link. Thanks

Here's a few websites currently doing the translation...not really sure which one site has completed their part as it is a very thick book and can be quite time consuming translating the whole novel into English. I have read a few chapter but just feel that they didn't managed to capture the essence as written in Chinese. :)

JY was separately interviewed during the fan meeting session in Thailand which I guess was due to pressure from the China authority. I believe that CJD's agency (which the other three had signed contract with) had made such an arrangement. He did cried a few things that night. :(

Fans were blaming JY for not attending the press conference and live tv show, which I think was really riduculous. Which company would want to promote an artist that is not signed on to their company. JY went to Thailand for the fan meeting which he can choose not to go, but because he was grateful to the production company for giving him a chance to act in the drama, he went. Not sure who made the airline arrangement, but China Airlines which JY took is definitely not as expensive as Thai Airways (the other three took TG). The other three also went to a beach resort in Thailand the day after the fan meeting session, JY flew straight back to Beijing that night.

I'm not sure how the english translated novel will end up. But the emotions from the original Chinese text may not be translated well. The reason why I continued to read was due to the emotions I get from this story.

That sounded like a mess, however I'm glad JY made it at least to the fan event, that could possibly be the last time we see all 4 of them (especially JY and WZ) together. Not sure if it's true but some said the main reason JY couldn't make it to the press conference was due to the rescheduling which will clash with his preparation as guest at Amei's concert that very evening.

Did CJD's agency offer to sign JY at some point? Perhaps it turned 'sour' when the deal didn't come through. :(

Has Nixorn recovered from sadness yet?

After the Fan meet, I believe that most if not all realised that HJY was warned not to appear together with ZZ if he is to save both of their careers. He was undoubtably miserable inside. Both ZZ and HJY were rumoured to be crying at some point during the fan meet. They purposely wear similar outfit even though they cannot be seen together. He had to meet the fans by himself. When the other three leads came out to be on the same stage as him, he was genuinely surprised and happy. LFS signalled ZZ to stand next to HJY. But within 5 seconds, he was pulled away by a stage assistant to stand at the far end. You could see the change in both of their faces. When the tribute of the Thai fans were shown on the big screen, HJY was singing along the song 海若有因 with fans. He was teary-eyed. The SARFT successfully separated them even in Thailand.

I forgot to add that all the remaining variety shows that HJY had filmed or going to film were cancelled due to SAFRT advisory on both HJY and XWZ. They asked the tv stations not to invite them now that the show is banned. So both management teams know that they need to show that they comply with the authorities by not putting them together even during the fan meet. But I am not confident that it will help their career and avert the ban in the short term. In fact, I am doubtful that ZZ's album can be released successfully...

HJY is not signed to any management agency at all as written on his weibo description: 没有签约任何公司. So he will be at the losing end, until he finds a good agency.

XWZ is signed to both CJD's agency (锋芒文化签约艺人) and Enlight (光线传媒). One will handle his acting career and the other his music career.

They are both not officially banned and fans are taking steps to help them by stopping to hash tag them together on weibo

I'm ok lah....just feel abit unfair that this drama serial and their actors esp the 2 leads (esp their careers) are being targeted.

I doubt the other professional actors like Luoyin' dad and mom, Guhai's dad are affected. And also actors in other gay-themed dramas/movies....eg this recent movie New York New York....with one char by 苗乔伟 having special feelings for 阮经天 (str8 char in love with a gal)....maybe it's very mild, and it's not the main theme....but nobody complain when they can kiss on stage during movie promotions all over china.

http://ent.people.com.cn/n1/2016/0225/c1012-28150151.html

http://fun.youth.cn/2016/0412/4220029.shtml

So it's not like china is "killing" all gay-related stuff....

And looking all those released trailers and pics of upcoming gay-themed dramas and movies.....i wonder how they are going ahead with the new rules....or are they observing and see how much can be "pushed"....but i do note a few initially mention releasing in which mth eg april....now say delayed...

Or is it Addicted targeted b'cos it had become too popular and also it's based on teens and students....while the rest eg Counterattack are based on adults?

But sometimes i also don't know what to believe....this forum thread said that the china censor issue isn't so serious....if 封杀, u won't even see them at all. It hinted at either someone else or one actor actually made it look so bad and so sad. And some rumors of Jingyu finding new work....with 郭敬明(小时代). Well, the info are all so hinted and unclear. I won't take it too seriously.

Btw....someone mentioned related to the above Happy Camp....they invited b4 actors from popular gay themed drama/movies.....but nothing happened....eg the 2 leads from thai movie Love of Siam....same gay story with teens....or is it b'cos it's not china production?

Besides some chinese forums....i also read some english ones....one is Soompi...mostly korean entertainment but for english-speaking fans. Koreans or their fans are always excited over pairing up idols, actors etc...esp from their We Got Married variety shows. Interestingly they also like some chinese productions and "shipped" the leads even 2 males....eg the 2 in Counterattack and also from Addicted. Sometimes they can dig up even more photos and stuff than chinese forums. Can u imagine no of pages on this is like over 700....

Read this....some taiwan company wants to buy the novel rights to film their own season 2....with totally different cast....mmm....i think better not.

006pdpZkjw1f31e4fv34oj30k00zk0xj.jpg

Some other info....but can't 100% guarantee...

It said rights is given to one taiwan channel to broadcast the drama.....and also to another taiwan company to sell the DVD in may.

006hLlLnjw1f32frpzfqxj30k00zk44r.jpg

I hope the actors can still find work eg magazine photo shots...then slowly some new acting roles...probably if they represent the new chars in new dramas....they will be "free".

Even if they "remove" their char labels...or no longer can stand on stage as guhai n yinzi...Weizhou n Jingyu are still good friends in private...nothing to be sad about it.

I mean if there's no hidden politics or friction btw them or the companies they work under.

The uncensored series is confirmed sold to iQiyi Taiwan (China's version of Netflix)

DVD to Cai Chang TW - website here but they don't ship overseas. Get a daigou (代购) if u really want the DVD.

Novel in Traditional Chinese (as the Taiwanese don't know how to read Simplified Chinese) will be available for pre-order from 27th of May - can order from kingstone, eslite, books.com.tw and they do ship overseas.

Take it with a pinch of salt on everything you read on soompi, too much whining from young little girls from around the world and they don't really understand how the entertainment world in China works.

Taken from soompi - someone did a very good translation of this weibo posting

His words actually have very deep meaning, and shows that he is a very learned and intelligent man. Here's my attempt at translating the actual meaning of his words:

"They say that this particular banned series* became famous overnight, but do they know about the countless days and nights of sweat and hard work before that one night? Do they understand what "厚积薄发"** means? Do they know what is "存在就是合理”***? Do they know what ordinary people want to see and hear? I've not said anything for so long because I knew if if I opened my mouth it'd be foul. But now that I've finally calmed down a little, I would like to make a suggestion - 大禹治水,疏优于堵****. If you want to control the flood waters, you're better off trying to disperse the water than trying to block its flow entirely. I watch the news every day, and what I'm seeing now is making me laugh the hardest."

* He's purposely being oblique here by not mentioning Addicted by name

** 厚积薄发 (hòujībófā) is an idiom that can be understood as follows: 厚积: Thick savings; denotes a great amount of effort in the process of accumulating something. 薄发: Thin dispersing; denotes letting something go in very small amounts. Together, it is used to describe how something is done with a a lot of planning and with very careful execution.

*** 存在就是合理 (cúnzài jìshì hélǐ) is the Chinese translation of a Hegelian philosophical phrase " What is rational is actual and what is actual is rational". Applied to Addicted, he is likely implying that there is a reason why the series exists in the first place - as a reaction to the way the world currently is. (see 1.7 under http://www.hegel.net/en/faq.htm)

****大禹治水,疏优于堵 (Dàyǔzhìshuǐ, shūyōuyúdǔ) is a rather complex phrase whose meaning I've guessed.
大禹治水 itself is a reference to the legend of Yu controlling the flood waters (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yu_the_Great).
Alternatively, it can be a deeper allusion to the Chinese myth of the deity who descended from the Supreme Deity/Emperor who tried to save humans from the Supreme Emperor's punishment of flood waters by stealing an item from the heavenly courts. The younger deity was eventually killed as punishment, but his dedication was so strong that his corpse spawned a baby (Yu) and a dragon which continued to try to control the floods. The younger deity's dedicated touched the Supreme Emperor who then provided help for Yu and the dragon better capabilities to combat the floods.

So... yeah, not only is Addicted making me practice my translation skills, I'm now actually learning new Chinese idioms AND myths while at the same time putting my philosophy training to work.

Sidetrack...Actually soompi fans seems more excited over the 2 leads of Counterattack...they created a couple thread for them besides just the drama thread. I didnt follow that drama and the actors...but from the few clips and postings in the couple thread....seems like they might be a real couple...or just some wishful thinking of the fans....anyway the 2 did a lot of promotion events and appeared on variety shows....seems they were allowed to behave more like their chars (to put it that way, if not saying the love is real) eg kiss on cheek, make love signs etc. To fans...they are like always giving out "candies". Nobody complained last time....or even now. But they probably lie low abit...at least for now.

Anyway...in that thread...someone also analyse abit on situation of Addicted....it gained popularity too fast and too big...esp how the weibo fans of the 2 leads jump to the level of many top china celebrities...so it worries some ppl...

Thank you for the detailed translation Dexter. It helps a lot to understand what the actor posted.

China or Beijing serves as a strong backdrop in this novel, I cannot imagine the series being filmed else where, the effect will never be the same unfortunately eg GH and BLY in Taiwanese accent.

Actually, the addicted series is by far the most popular Mainland production ever on Soompi, Atrl Celebria and Yaoitaku. On Soompi, it has more than 1 million views now. In fact, it beats everything other than Descendents of the Sun. The reason why it does not have a shopper thread is because the forummers fought for the Addicted thread to stay as a single thread instead of dividing it into two i.e. One for the show, one for the actors.

@nixorn

I wonder if the uncensored version will include "deleted" scenes eg. drunk BLY comparison tool size with GH etc. Can't wait to see the final products (DVD and novel) when they are available in Taiwan, we shall see if the actors' images will be used for the covers.

As for WZ's album, any idea if it will be a Mainland only release or will it be available outside China?

Just to elaborate.

大禹治水,疏优于堵 refers to the former. The principle of flood control - better to disperse or redirect water rather than to block it. He is saying that what SARFT is doing is ineffective as it will only cause the flood of emotion to build up. Instead, what it should do is to allow more options which will then compete for the crowd's favour and disperse the pent-up emotions.

厚积薄发 is directly criticising SARFT's unfavourable view of stars gaining popularity overnight. He is highlighting that what appears to be attained or accomplished without much effort (or with ease), is actually the result of years of hard work and preparation. In a way, it is Chinese term of serendipity. He is implying that ZZ and JY's shot to fame is actually the result of many years of hard work.
