Nicholas Lim Scandal Saga (compiled)

Right after Andy Hui and Jacqueline Wong scandal in HK, in SG we have Nicholas Lim scandal. Everyone has been talking about the issues. One wrong step can really ruin one life forever. I find him very cute. With his look, he can get as many girls as he wanted or even boys. Why doing the foolish things?

1) Andy Hui got wife, why cheat? Because it’s a moment of folly and horny. Same for Nicholas Lim.

2) He’s obviously attracted to girls only so count boys out. As said he’s into voyeurism, which is an act to spy on others’ intimate moments, probably an influence he got from the porn he watches. So the thrill he gets from taking video of girls showering is something neither of us will understand, so don’t ask why.

3) Cute or ugly he is an offender because he gave in to the temptation of committing an illegal act to fulfil his own desires.

4) His future is ruined because people keep spreading his name out. The focus of this issue is to tackle the problem of sexual harassment which is frequent in institutions but it is often swept under the carpet. Nicholas is unlucky because his victim is someone who dares to speak out and also has the outreach to do so.

5) I just feel really sad for his parents.

6) Guys often get filmed too and it’s just a horrible experience. Let’s hope this experience will give a warning to all sexual predators out there to stop. Keep your temptations to yourself and don’t hurt other to fulfil your own desires.

I do think we all have to think a little more about this "scandal". How many times have we seen vdos on porn sites of guys in the privacy of a shower stall or toilet stall? In the old days of tumblr there ware many dozens of them regularly appearing. Hopefully we would never consider trying to make such a movie, but vast numbers watched them and clearly enjoyed watching them. Why, then, do we become all moral and outraged when this happens and becomes public?

Similarly, as I understand it, the Hong Kong incident involving Andy Hui was cuddling and kissing in the back of a taxi with a woman who was not his wife. Did they go further than kissing? If not, then the only reason this was a big deal is because Hui is a popular singer and his wife and Ms. Wong are actors. Had it just been another older guy and younger woman, we probably would never have heard of it as I suspect it happens with some regularity.

I do not condone the invasion of anyone's privacy and I think it is right that Mr. Lim was caught out and has left his job. But to suggest his future is now ruined is way over the top. Once the next scandal comes along the public will forget and he will go on with his life almost as though it had not happened. Hopefully he will learn from his mistake.

A "real" scandal is what happened to Hong Kong singer/actor Edison Chen a decade ago. He had been stupid enough to take many dozens of photos of himself having sex with a number of popular young female actors. Somehow these were found on his laptop when he put it in for repair. Illegally, the technician was able to access them and disseminate them publicly. For days they were available on the internet - and many still keep copies. The technical went to jail. But Edison Chen fled to his second home in Canada and announced his retirement from the entertainment industry. But he returned a couple of years later and has since recorded several albums and also reinvented himself as partner in his own fashion business.

I rather like Oscar Wilde's line in his play 'Lady Windemere's Fan' -  "Scandal is merely gossip made tedious by morality."

The alleged victim has a very good memory to remember that the incident took place on 25 Nov 2018 (yes!).

In most western countries this incident wouldn't even make it into the news.

And it shows cute guys can be lonely and perverts too.

Whereas I think his pictures should be deleted at this thread. Violation of privacy.

In an interview with Chinese tabloid Lianhe Wanbao, the victim NUS student Monica Baey revealed that after she caught 3rd year Chemical Engineering student Nicholas Lim filming her showering, his girlfriend messaged her to have a “talk” in her room imploring her not to pursue the matter as it was his first offence. She also defended him that he committed the act because he watched too many pornographic films!

After Monica revealed his identity online, Nicholas called her boyfriend asking if she intended to “ruin his future”! Monica also received anonymous threats online not to pursue the matter as Nicholas Lim’s parents are “powerful people with connections”!

Such voyeuristic acts of filming women showering usually warrant a jail term, but Nicholas was only given a 12 month conditional warning by the police and a one semester suspension by NUS, sparking a massive public outcry over the authorities’ handling of the case.

Monica Baey is not an easy person!

Whoever married and later divorced her sure kena jialat jialat!

She will fight all her way to make you bankrupt and sue you till your pants drop and suck out all your sperm blood to get whatever she thinks she deserved.

Just hope that Nicholas don’t commit suicide due to the pressure he’s having now. NOT that his action is right!

Whenever I see his picture, I have this unexplained feeling, and uncontrollable urge. I think I have gone crazy frenzy over his photo. I want to unbutton his shirt button by button n reveal his perky chest n protruding nipples. Then slowly but surely follow his happy trail all the way to unbutton his pants n unzipped his pant halfway. I dun want to take out his 6 inch hard rock wiener. Just contented with groping his bulge.

I think that the warning, his one semester suspension and his public humiliation are sufficient punishment for the guy. He surely will think twice before filming again people showering.   And Monica the "victim",  what was her suffering?  Was the film of her exposed in public, on the internet?

This Nicholas scandal reminds me of the Colin Teo scandal in 2017. (Just google "Colin Teo Han Jern". His name was mentioned in the press.)

Colin was caught filming obscene videos of males in public toilets. Like Nicholas, Colin is pretty cute. Both of them were caught red-handed, but Colin was sentenced to 10 weeks' jail and $4000 fine, while Nicholas does not have any lawsuits/sentences so far. (Maybe this is one reason why Monica feels unfair.) If Monica is persistent in bringing Nicholas to justice, Nicholas would probably suffer a similar fate as Colin (jail + fine). Given Nicholas' cute face and hot naval diver body, he would definitely make the gay prisoners very delighted if he ends up in jail. Maybe Colin could share his own experience with Nicholas to mentally prepare him. (I wonder how Colin is now... No news of him after he was sentenced...)

Now that Nicholas' reputation is down the drain, he should voluntarily drop out of NUS and start seeking a place in an overseas university, provided he doesn't get jailed... Nicholas can also learn a thing or two from Ashry Owyong and Joal Ong, on how to stay low profile after a massive scandal.

Pse go find and read the details, it’s not alleged, he even had to write an apology letter of that crime he committed. And he has a girlfriend.

Some info that didn’t make the news was his friends (and him I suppose) claimed he was drunk then - alleged.

I think what pisses Monica off a lot is that when Nicholas Lim was suspended from NUS for six months, he spent those months working for Great Eastern Singapore as a financial advisor!

I suspect his family has connections with someone there.

Also, I'm not sure how the suspension works but I think it only means (correct me if I'm wrong) that he graduates one term later than his cohort. No criminal record whatsover.

Either you accept an apology and let go or you don't accept and let the matter drag on. but once a letter of apology was issued and accepted, then let the matter rest. Just wonder who is the real victim now?

NUS peeping tom case: Victim's action may come under new 'doxxing' laws

While the attention surrounding Ms Monica Baey's Instagram stories has caused a furore, one aspect that may have escaped attention is her decision to post the perpetrator's Instagram profile online.

The post included his name, photographs of him, his faculty at university, as well as his place of employment.

Lawyers The New Paper spoke to yesterday said this could be an offence under changes to the Protection from Harassment Act (Poha) proposed in Parliament earlier this month.

While current laws are worded broadly, the proposed "doxxing" laws make it clear that publishing identifiable information with the intention to harass is an offence.

Lawyer Fong Wei Li said: "Under the new laws, which are yet to come into force, the information that was posted online can be deemed to cause harassment if the intention to do so can be proven."

Lawyer Gloria James also agreed that Ms Baey's action could come under "doxxing".

She added: "If she (Ms Baey) wishes to share her story, she could have done so without crossing the line as she does him more damage."

Mr Fong said that even though Ms Baey was a victim of a crime, it would not make a difference under Poha.

He also added that it is for the perpetrator to take action against Ms Baey if he feels that he has been harassed or alarmed by her actions

This Monica wrote:  "When will I f-cking get the justice I deserve for what you did to me?"

We don't wish any woman to be the victim of assault with rape, or mutilation, or disfigurement or murder.

And yet we keep hearing about so many women who are innocent victims of evil attacks,

and just now the victims of this horrible attack in Siri Lanka on Eastern Sunday and again today.

Somehow this Monica needs to get her yardstick of victimization reset to a realistic value.

300 innocent people may never get ANY justice for their loss of life,

every day hundreds of women don't get ANY justice for serious crimes committed against them.

While this pretentious female is asking for more "justice" because an immature boy tried to film her taking a shower ???

I think the best bet for him now is to leave the country until the matter dies down.

With his parents' wealth, he can easily continue his university in Australia.

Believe me: people won't remember him by the time he graduates and comes back. By that time, S'poreans would be talking about the 2020 elections results, and other issues.

I'm not defending his actions, and I don't want to comment whether Monica did the right thing by shaming him online.

It's just the new reality that we are living in an age where social media is extremely powerful, capable of bringing down a person, as we have seen.

Right now, the public outcry is very great, and even a Minister has added his comments on the matter. And at least one company that used to provide internship to NUS students has cut off ties with NUS over their handling of the matter.

So maybe Nic can consider leaving for awhile. Would give him more peace also, and hopefully, once he is gone from NUS, Monica's fury will cease.

Student in NUS sexual misconduct case given conditional warning due to high likelihood of rehabilitation: Police

SINGAPORE - The police said in a statement on Tuesday (April 23) that the student involved in the sexual misconduct case at a National University of Singapore (NUS) residence hall was assessed to have a high likelihood of rehabilitation, and was remorseful.

In handing the 23-year-old man a conditional warning, police added that there were also additional factors relating to his conduct which were relevant, such as the absence of other obscene materials in any of his devices.

Here is the full police statement:

The difference is that Colin Teo made hundreds of videos of guys. He filmed 33 different guys. he actually filmed guys having sex in the cubicles next to him at Paragon and Cathay.

Further, homo acts are seen more serious. For most judges Teo probably was a "pervert". He is gay and not straight.

But I would think a judge wouldn't see Nicholas Lim as such. Maybe, in his wrong making a capture of a female student showering but there isn't that 377A badge on Lim, as he is straight.

There is still that difference.

To me that Lim case is totally overblown.

I would actually like to know, how that Monica found out it was him? I mean that he studied Engineering and got his details.

Probably captured the culprit Lim from the surveillance cameras.

I mentioned it earlier somewhere, I personally have the feeling that there is more to that story that we know and maybe probably never really will know.

That Monica taking revenge on him should receive a warning from the university too. She needs to learn her lesson now. Lim might have done some wrong but what Monica is doing seems not proportionate to what happened.

This is what appears in the report:  "Our criminal justice system seeks to temper punishment and deterrence, with giving offenders a second chance to reform, based on assessment of the relevant factors. "

I find this a very positive attitude, certainly a different tone from a police state with a 377A.  To temper punishment is progressive.

In contrast:

Her guts were helpful in reporting the incident.  But after that, she should have kept quiet about the punishment.

Nobody swept the episode under the carpet.  Far from it.

She does not show confidence, but an ugly abuse, advantage taking of her status as "victim".

Yes, she found out it was him from the hostel's CCTV. She recognised him as the boyfriend of one of her hostel friends.

Actually, I don't fully pity Monica. If you look at her social media posts related to the incident, she is extremely vulgar - uses the F word non-stop.

If I were an employer, I definitely won't hire her, and if I have a son, I definitely wouldn't want such a foul-mouthed and ill-bred daughter-in-law.

So I can understand if people find it hard to pity her.

Her final course is to official sue. But that would be costly: lawyer's fees, etc etc.

Plus, she needs to decide under which Act to sue, and it may not even succeed, as the accused was technically "dealt with" already, and the law does not allow double punishments for the same charge/offense.

You never did any mistake you regretted in your whole life because you are infallible, correct?

You forgot that the matter went through the police and the university, it was never a hidden thing or swept under the carpet.

I don't say that Lim did nothing wrong, but I think you got it a bit wrong.

It is not the story of someone where it was settled in the secret or never found out.

But I think the girl went overboard.

And what she missed is that justice is not to serve to her satisfaction.
