Bangkok anonymous hiv test/test kit

Hi all, heading to Bangkok next month and would like to know where should I go to for a anonymous hiv test.

i read online that you can now buy hiv test kits at pharmacies, is it really happening in Bangkok and are they reliable like Oraquick?

i’ve been practising protected anal sex but unprotected oral fun, so the thought of having an accurate test has been on my mind for the longest time.

thanks in advance.

If anonymity is a concern, you can still do it at the mobile test place (which is a van). They park the van at different places at different days of the month. You can find the schedule here:

https://afa.org.sg/whatwedo/support/mts/  They can do two tests for you: HIV 4th gen test and the syphilis test. The total cost is about $70 (if I've not remembered wrongly). You can also just go for the HIV test alone which I think cost about $42 (if I've not remembered wrongly).

They will ask you to do a survey but they will not ask you for your name/IC/tel. And even for your survey, you do not need to fill them in that "honestly". Depending on whether they have other people ahead of you, you may have to wait a short while after you are done with the survey, so that the previous person in the van can be done with the medical test first before you go in. They may ask you a couple of questions in the van to see if you are aware of the incubation period, to see if you know if you are within the "test detectability" period. And they may also  ask why you feel like you have the need to do the test. So, be ready to come up with a plausible answer if you are not that keen to let them know that it's because you have been sucking too many cocks.... :)

Then they will give you a pin prick on your fingertip so that they can draw out a droplet of blood or two to drip it onto a test strip (or two, if you are doing both HIV and syphilis tests). Then you will pay them i(in cash usually) and they will give you a NUMBERED receipt. You will then be asked to come back into the van after 20 minutes time for the test results, because it will take that amount of time for the test results to show.

You are only identified by this NUMBERED receipt, so do not lose this NUMBERED receipt. When you return in 20 minutes time, you will be asked to show your NUMBERED receipt so that they can identify which test strip was yours. Then they will let you know the results, and then you can leave.

This beats going to BKK in terms of cost and convenience actually.

Thanks there. How much should I expect?

That's why I always stay a short distance away and confirm that there won't be anyone in the queue, before I make my guerrilla move to the van.Just that I won't be able to tell if there's anyone in the van or not.  In most cases, if you go to those "straight" or "neutral" places where the van is parked like Geylang and Bugis etc, you won't see people queuing there. It is the "gay" places that you will see the long long queue forming. Anyway, it's up to you to decide. In any case, since you are in Singapore, you might as well take a bit of time to go "spy" on them first to see if you can pick up the courage to go in the future. I had the same concerns when I first used them. Now, I go there twice or thrice each year. And they don't ever remember me at all, even though I sometimes tell them I can remember them.

There is the Red Cross clinic in Bangkok too. Thai Red Cross Anonymous Clinic

http://en.trcarc.org

Prices are indicated on the website.

It is a short walk from two BRT stations ( 5 - 10 mins walk), the nearer one Ratchadamry.

I found it professional. There are plenty of other tests and all of them anonymous.

You must register and receive something like a customer card. Take a queue number after indicating the tests. If you are lost, staff at the counters will help you. Staff will even do the registration for you, by giving them your details (Just Email actually, but for statistics they have this male/ female. age range etc.) .  You need to pay tests, there are different payment methods. The tests will be taken after payment only. Cash payment is possible.

Waiting times can't be predicted but are all within one hour in normal circumstances. If you go at the earlier morning timings before 9.30am then better, but I went once on an afternoon 2pm as well and it was ok.

The good thing is: after the test you don't need to wait any further as all results will be sent to you to your personal email, which means you can go one day prior to your return trip to Singapore to this clinic and just wait for the results at your email afterwards. However, there won't be any advice, it is just the test taking.

Note: Some tests require 3 weeks for results due to laboratory examinations.

It might be recommended to create a new Email just for the test results.

You can take a look at the website.

The range of anonymous tests is much more than what DSC offers on the anonymous (just 2 if I remember).

I found it even better because you don't need to complete these questionnaires like at DSC where I experienced some very annoying personnel asking "strange" questions while it should be an anonymous test. Even after having said, it wasn't my first test at DSC they insisted on asking me over and over or teaching me on safe sex.

Unfortunately you said you don't like to be seen in a queue.

In fact, this was the biggest cons* of the testing place:

Sitting around for one hour with all the hot Thai boys next to you...

I did not find it troublesome at all, because nobody really knows me in BKK.

*The pros and cons of something are its advantages and disadvantages

Thanks mate. If it’s Red Cross and in Bangkok, I don’t mind the queue. I am just worried with all the hot boys there I might think about naughty things again. Haha
