That said, cavity search on inmates, is supposed to be mandatory security practice only at the point of admission for civil prisons. Thereafter (and in the case of DB), it is up the discretion of the senior duty officer(s) or staff to act on it. The purpose of the search to prevent contraband and weapons from making their way in (or around) the prison/DB. It is actually possible to hide objects as long as a 20cm shank, or packets of drugs/tobacco up a male anal cavity. And in the case of civil prisons, it is done without lub (who will waste public money on such a luxury!).
