I’ve been gaining weight lately despite of doing exercise. Some people are saying that I’m getting lazy. That hurts. They don’t know the effort I’m doing to stay fit. Do you think that being fat means being lazy?

Yes, you are lazy. You don't even go onto the internet to find out the fact that weight loss is more about 80% diet control and 20% exercising. So yes, you are lazy.

No. People can be very active and still be fat.   It is ignorance to blame people for being fat,  like it is to blame gays for being gay.

But you got a good suggestion to research the ways to lose weight. Eating less fattening foods is much more effective than exercising.  This does not mean that one should give up on exercising, since it is important to be in good shape once the fat disappears.

It is good that you don't eat sugar. But complex carbohydrates like legumes, vegetables, fruits can help in losing weight.   My favorite dish is lentils cooked in a pot with different cruciferous vegetables, onions, tomatoes, beets, carrots,  and I eat this every day.  Fruits that are in season make good desserts. Lean chicken breasts are good protein, the same as whey protein isolate if cost is not a problem. Eating many small meals throughout the day is better than the three traditional big meals.  Eat little for dinner and long before going to bed.   There is so much healthy eating advice on the web that it can become overwhelming.  Some prestigious books about good nutrition can be helpful.

You should embrace what genetics have given to you, i.e. aspects of yourself that you can't change. This could be your fat distribution, skinny limbs, narrow shoulders or wide hips.

Body fat level is very much controllable. Lazy isn't the word, its just that everyone is presented with different circumstances and what they chose to proritize on a day to day basis.

Even thou I am the weight according to my height I still think there is always room to make my physique better, we all dream of having the perfect body. It does take alot of discipline in terms of what we eat and ofcourse I rather not exercise and rest my butt and watch TV, but I try to push myself where exercise is concern. Food is always too tempting but I know that if I want to eat sweet stuff I have to be willing to do the exercise or end up with a flabby belly 😅

My weight is like yoyo -  fluctuates up and down but I find that my best progress was when I had a calendar to indicate days I worked out. I would use a highlighter to mark down all the dates that I had some form of exercise and that gave me a visual idea of how much or how little I did. And if I did not see much highlights - yeah I was lazy that month! Lol. And ofcouse you will need a weighing scale, when you see the numbers going the wrong direction you will need to scale down the feeding and pump up the exercising.

But our reason for doing it all should not be for appearance but simply to be healthy.

In the last years I have found an ideal way to lose weight:  intermittent fasting.  I have been doing this every day for the last two years.

And rather than to "lose" weight, it is a good method to reach the ideal weight the body wants to have.  Now I want to GAIN weight, but I'm not successful.  Perhaps I should accept that my body wants to weight less with my advancing age...

You are right in general.  In the last decades there have been some findings that provide more ways to attain good health.  And this also comes with with good appearance and beauty!

One finding is that we should adjust our nutrition to attain optimum metabolism, good insulin sensitivity:  reduce  to the maximum the sugars and starches, starting by avoiding processed foods and vegetable oils ( junk food ).  Another good finding is to do "the opposite of nutrition":  fasting,  in particular the intermittent fasting.   Instead of a yoyo, adapt slowly to these findings and you won't have to worry anymore when they become habits forever.

It is impossible to judge a book by its cover.  Despite being overweight (visuallly fat looking), my campmate was the quickest runner during IPPT and had remarkable alertness and mental acuity during nighttime outdoor exercises.  Those who are thin frequently complain of occasional discomfort or aching.

I observed that his stomach was very proportionate to his chest as he was taking a shower.  Imagine a nicely protruding curve that resembles the belly of a well-fed shark, rather than a swollen, loopy tire-like stomach, resembling pregnancy.

I am absolutely sure, he has market value in the gay circle based on the description I just mentioned.  However, some people may not find those well-muscled, chiseled, meatless bodies, such as skinny Bak Kut Teh types, appealing.

This is a very sad diet. I feel that angmo diets always say eat chicken breast - how to sustain eating like that every day! Here in SG most of the working folks eat at hawkers centre or coffee shop. One needs to figure out healthier hawker fare. Maybe eat clear fish soup or Yong Tau Foo or Spinach Soup with little or no rice. For chinese food still can find healthy options. For Indian and Muslim food the healthy options are unfortunately very limited.

I believe you got your food wrong. Many food items are very high carbs and you need to read a lot to know which food will make you fat and which food will not make you fat.

There are some people saying water will make you fat but that is very wrong. Plain water is 0 calories and you need to drink lots of it to prevent your body from mistaken thirst to be hunger. You body may become temporary bloated for a short while but in the long run it will help you slim down. Eat more leaf vegetables that grows above ground as those are very low in calories. Those vegetables that grow underground like potatoes are high carb too

Actually, my diet is pretty simple..

if i were to go to MacDonald, i will still go for a burger, no mayonnaise, more greens, fries without salt, throw in a salad to the meal, get mineral water instead o fthe usual shitty soft drinks.

or i go to buy sushi straight from NTUC Finest

alternative is, if i have rice for lunch, dinner, i skip all forms of carbs

i wish i had the bods of some guys here

No point in wishing other persons' bods.  Nature gave you yours!   It might have its problems.  I disliked mine, because I was born with a caved in chest, and I hated its looks!  BUT... the earlier you start caring for YOUR body,  embracing it and seeing also the good things in it,  the better.  I overcame my defect of birth, which motivated me to exercise in a gym, and after all these years my bod is much, much better than those I admired at the time.  They are also seniors, if they are still alive,  and I had the opportunity to see many of them when we had a 50+ years reunion after graduation from high school.  Oh my God!,  did some of them look old and ruinous!  I could have spend years giving them advice, helping them to improve...  But I had to return back to the US from my visit to Argentina...

I think part of the problem with social media is that they are designed to make us feel less than adequate with our own lives. I don't look like my profile pic everyday. There will be times when I am less defined, like right now with all the holiday feasting. Also as you realised al lot of how a photo appears has to do with flexing, angle of the pose, and lighting. So focus on being the best version of you.

Love.

Well said!

Cannot agree more.

I uses to compare with others when I was much much younger. Feeling inferior.

When older, I am contented with what I have. Treasure and take good care of me, myself and mine.
