Robin Williams, Actor and Comedian, Dies at 63

To me, he is a great actor.  One of his acting movie that I enjoy watching repeatedly is What Dreams May Come.

As he rests in peace, and like what his wife mentioned, "As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to million".

I thought he was openly gay?

Just another drug user, another loser ! He needed drugs to act well !

Oh why do u have to say this? :(

These celebs look good on the outside, but the inside is like most of us. We complain a lot about being stressed at work, but imagine the stress levels these celebs go through every day, thats why some resorted to taking drugs to numb themselves or to keep them sane.

You've made a great sacrifice,

For all the joy that you have given us.

Each time I saw you,

I was sure I'll have a good time.

It's so sad now to see you in this final moment,

Only to realise the pain in you.

If only I could return one laughing moment,

So that you could be around a day longer.

R.I.P

Another Hero, gone too soon.

It reminds us of Whitney Houston with similar ending.

I remember him on Jumanji tho it seems I always see him on TV during Christmas as Santa in bright red clothes and fake beard. He has that sad face that makes him not funny sometimes.

Do the things at which you are great, not what you were never made for.”

15 Wonderful Robin Williams Quotes On Life by Shane Snow, Chief Creative Officer of Contently. He writes about media and technology for Wired, Fast Company, Ad Age, and more.

Robin Williams has been making me laugh since I was a kid; I plan to remember him not just for the silliness, but for the way his words helped so many of us appreciate life. Here are a few of my favorite he said, on and off screen:

"No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world"

“The human spirit is more powerful than any drug, and that is what needs to be nourished with work, play, friendship and family. These are the things that matter.”

“There is still a lot to learn, and there is always great stuff out there. Even mistakes can be wonderful.”

"You are only given a little spark of madness, you mustn't loss it."

“You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you, you’ll win, no matter what the outcome.”

“Poetry, beauty, romance, love... these are what we stay alive for.”

"Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your life extraordinary."

“I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone, it’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel alone.”

“You will have bad times, but they will always wake you up to the stuff you weren’t paying attention to.”

"Reality... what a concept!"

"You know what music is? God's little reminder that there's something else beside us in this universe; harmonic connection between all living beings, every where, even the stars."

“I believe in destiny. There must be a reason that I am as I am. There must be.”

“What’s right is what’s left if you do everything else wrong.”

“But oh, to be free... such a thing would be greater than all the magic and all the treasures in all the world.”

"To live. To live would be an awfully big adventure."

Apple Released a New Ad with Robin Williams and It’s Quietly Inspiring

The narration comes from a scene in ‘Dead Poets Society’ and it’s stunningly beautiful. What will your verse be?

Oh my balls, can you believe this group of Fundamentalist Baptist  who is going to protest at Robin Williams memorial funeral .

Robin Williams: Anti-Gay Church Group Plan Protest at Actor's Memorial Service

A private memorial service is being planned for actor Robin Williams.

Williams, 63, was found dead in his San Francisco home on Monday. (11 August) According to the preliminary result of the forensic investigation, his cause of death was asphyxiation by hanging.

Close friends and family have started arriving at his home town in Tiburon, California, for the service.

A source told E! News that the memorial "will be small," as the couple were "both very private people."

While most of the world is united in mourning the loss of the much-loved star, members of the controversial Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church are planning a protest at the actor's memorial, over his portrayal of a gay man in the movie The Birdcage.

A message posted on the group's official Twitter page reads: "Westboro Baptist Church Hopes To Preach In Lawful Proximity To Robin Williams' Funeral - To Warn The Living: Repent Or Likewise Perish."

News of the demonstration has sparked widespread condemnation and prompted organisers at the global non-profit organisation Planting Peace, to launch a fundraiser to counter the church's plans.

A message from the charity's co-founder Aaron Jackson reads: "Robin Williams played many different roles in so many people's lives, and giving back to others was at the top of that list.

"His appeal crossed generational boundaries. I was personally impacted when I heard of his passing. This is a small gesture to honour his legacy and the difference he made to so many," he said.

Jackson said that when the WBC announced they were protesting the star's funeral, "we felt like launching a fundraiser for a charity Robin loved would be the perfect way to honour him and counteract the message of hate and intolerance that the WBC continues to convey."

The proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit St Jude Children's Hospital, which Williams supported during his life.

President Barack Obama led the tributes to Williams, describing him as "one of a kind," while Hollywood continues to mourn the death of the comic genius.

His children too, have each paid tribute to "their father and best friend."

Zelda Williams said: "Dad was, is and always will be one of the kindest, most generous, gentlest souls I've ever known, and while there are few things I know for certain right now, one of them is that not just my world, but the entire world is forever a little darker, less colourful and less full of laughter in his absence. We'll just have to work twice as hard to fill it back up again."

The actor's wife Susan Schneider, revealed he was suffering the early stages of Parkinson's disease.

Robin Williams And The No Asshole Rule by:Bob Sutton, Stanford Professor and Co-author of SCALING UP EXCELLENCE, August 12, 2014

The news about Robin Williams' death is so sad; he was such a great and rare talent. Just like so many of you, I can't quite believe it. I never met Robin. I was, however, helped enormously by someone close to him. It is a long story, but based on Robin's experience with a nearly identical medical condition, she helped me choose a heart surgeon. Partly as a result of her detailed advice, in 2010, I ended having a "cow valve" replacement for my aortic valve performed at the Cleveland Clinic by a wonderful surgeon named Mark Gillinov -- just as Robin had a couple years earlier.

And I have an especially revealing story about how Robin treated others. Back in 2006, I spent several days in a recording studio in San Francisco narrating the audio version of my book The No Asshole Rule. At one point, I read a part about how, in my opinion, one of the best tests of a human being is how well or badly he or she treats others with less power. Right after I read this section, the two engineers I was working with began talking about various famous people they had worked with in this and other studios over the years.

I asked them: Who was the most civilized and who was the biggest asshole? They answered the second question first -- they both agreed that the biggest asshole was Dr. Phil. It took them a few minutes longer to answer the first question, but they soon agreed it was Robin Williams. They declined to give me any details about Dr. Phil, but were quite specific about why Robin was their favorite: He talked to them, asked for their opinions, joked with them, asked if they were comfortable, and in general treated them with warmth and respect.

Robin was, in the eyes of those two engineers, a first-rate human-being, a mensch. We all die, the least of us manage that. Few of us leave such an astounding legacy -- in ways both large and small. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Spare all the negative judgements on a person whom we know so little personally.  Unless we have lived under the same roof 24/7 and personally share a life with another being together (in this case, the late Robin Williams), it is just (our) pure judgement to keep guessing what actually made a person to take a drastic move to end a life.

While his chosen end is tragic, let's just be grateful that he had made us smiled or laughed - even for one second - when we chose to watch his acts.  After all, like him, we are not perfect too.

Cheers!

When Westboro Baptist Threatens To Protest Robin Williams’ Funeral, One Comedian Responds Fittingly

This past Friday night on the UK television program The Last Leg, Australian comedian Adam Hills brutally called out Westboro Baptist Church for threatening to protest Robin Williams’ funeral.

After Hills made it clear that he was disgusted by the church’s plans, he issued a proposition for the Westboro Baptist members to put their money where their mouth is.

Hills stated that if the Westboro Baptist members are so concerned with those threatening their version of the Christian way of life, he will personally pay for every member to fly first class over to Iraq where the church can picket the people beheading Christians if they don’t convert.

Perhaps if the Westboro Baptist members accepted this challenge, it would give them a much-needed dose of reality.

IMHO, Billy Crystal tribute to Robin William in the Emmy was heart warming.

Being a pariah, an outsider etc r relatable on such an intimate level. I've always wanted to go watch her stand up routine... Guess I'll never have a chance now :(

Recently we loss 2 girls in the world of KPOP. I thought i could mention them too although i think no one listens to them here.

Go EunB (21 years old) and Kwon RiSe (23 years old) from Ladies' Code.

They were heading back to their dorms, via a van, from a schedule in the midnight. It was a rainy night but unfortunately the back wheel of the van came off and the van spun and skidded until it crashed onto the side railings of the highway. Go EunB and the driver passed away on the scene (3rd Sept).

Kwon RiSe was sent to a hospital and had 3 operations to her brain due to the damages. She eventually succumbed to her injuries this morning, having never woken up from her coma of 4 days in the ICU.

The group of 5 girls just debut last year and they had a bright future ahead of them, but it was destroyed in 1 night. Too young :(

RIP EunB and RiSe.
