Let's see Justin Bieber live up to that...

Behind the headlines and huge on-stage persona, George Michael was a generous man who kept quiet about his considerable charitable donations, it has emerged. The star – who has died at the age of 53 – donated royalties from some of his biggest selling singles and is said to have given a game show contestant thousands of pounds to fund her IVF treatment.

Michael has helped countless children as a result of his donations to Childline and also supported other organisations including the Terrence Higgins Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Michael, who spoke about losing his partner Anselmo Feleppa to HIV, “personally supported” the Terrence Higgins Trust for “many years”, Jane Barron from the organisation said.

“We are so saddened by the loss of George Michael,” she added.

“George also often thought of us to kindly donate experiences and gifts that were used to raise vital funds to help us support people living with HIV.

“Along with other charities, we were grateful to benefit from the royalties of George’s 1991 duet with Elton John, Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.

“His donations contributed to a vision of a world where people living with HIV live healthy lives free from prejudice and discrimination.

Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia in 'Star Wars,' Dead at 60

Actress dies following massive heart attack

Carrie Fisher, the iconic actress who portrayed Princess Leia in the Star Wars series, died Tuesday following a massive heart attack last week. She was 60.

"It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning," Simon Halls, a spokesperson for Fisher's family, said in a statement to People.

Fisher suffered a heart attack last week aboard a Los Angeles-bound flight 15 minutes prior to landing. A medic onboard performed CPR on the actress until paramedics arrived to take her to UCLA Medical Center, where she was placed on a ventilator.

The daughter of screen legend Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher, the actress made her Broadway debut as a teenager in Irene, which starred her mother. After making her big screen debut in 1975's Shampoo and briefly enrolling in London's Central School of Speech and Drama and then St. Lawrence College, Fisher dropped out, at the age of 19, after landing the role of Princess Leia in George Lucas' 1977 space epic Star Wars.

"She has no friends, no family; her planet was blown up in seconds – along with her hairdresser – so all she has is a cause," Fisher told Rolling Stone in 1983 of the role. "From the first film [A New Hope], she was just a soldier, front line and center. The only way they knew to make the character strong was to make her angry. In Return of the Jedi, she gets to be more feminine, more supportive, more affectionate. But let's not forget that these movies are basically boys' fantasies. So the other way they made her more female in this one was to have her take off her clothes."

"Lucas always had to remind me to 'Stand up! Be a princess!' And I would act like a Jewish princess and lean forward, slouching, chewing gum," Fisher once joked.

Fisher also saw parallels between Princess Leia, the lost daughter of the series' villain Darth Vader, and her own unique childhood as the daughter of two Fifties superstars; Fisher endured both her mother's highly publicized divorces as well as her father's own issues with substance abuse ("He's a little shellshocked from 13 years of doing speed, but he's real friendly," she said in 1980 of Eddie Fisher, who died in 2010.)

"Leia's real father left her mother when she was pregnant, so her mother married this King Organa. I was adopted and grew up set apart from other people because I was a princess," Fisher said. "A lot of parallels, me and Leia. Dad goes off to the dark side, and Mom marries a millionaire. My brother and I went in different directions on the Debbie and Eddie issue. He's gotten involved with Jesus, and I do active work on myself, trying to make myself better and better. It's funny."

Throughout her career, Fisher was open about her struggles with mental illness – the actress was diagnosed with bipolar disorder – and drug use, admitting that she had abused cocaine throughout the filming of The Empire Strikes Back, as well as prescription drugs. "Drugs made me feel normal," Fisher said in 2001. Her one-woman play and memoir Wishful Drinking also tackled her battle with addiction.

In addition to play Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy and 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Fisher also appeared in films like The Blues Brothers, When Harry Met Sally, The 'Burbs and Woody Allen's Hannah and Her Sisters. Fisher was also slated to reprise the role in Star Wars' upcoming Episode VIII and Episode IX.

"I was very nervous, had a lot of memory problems initially – just horrific – and then it got better," Fisher told Rolling Stone in 2015 about returning to the legendary role. "I settled in. You know, think about it, what it would be to make three of these movies a million years ago, and now, 'Let's do it again, only you're 40 years older and there's a lot to live up to or down – take your pick.' People want it to be the same but better ... I don't know. So there's pressure on it, more than most films. But then you get over yourself and say, 'By the way, it's the younger people doing it.' You have to sort of like get over yourself fast."

In 1990, Fisher turned her semi-autobiographical memoir Postcards From the Edge, which detailed her drug addiction and rehab experiences as well as her relationship with Reynolds, into a feature film starring Meryl Streep. Fisher was nominated for a Best Screenplay BAFTA for the film, while Streep earned a Best Actress Academy Award nomination for playing Fisher's alter ego "Suzanne" in the film.

Fisher was also the writer of four novels and the ex-wife of singer-songwriter Paul Simon, who she was married to for a year in 1983. Fisher was also in a longterm relationship with talent agent Bryan Lourd, with whom she had her only child, Billie Lourd.

Actor Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, tweeted following news of Fisher's heart attack, "as if 2016 couldn't get any worse... sending all our love to Carrie Fisher." And Peter Mayhew, who plays Chewbacca, wrote, "Thoughts and prayers for our friend and everyone's favorite princess right now."

Actually, what is Carrie Fisher's great contribution to humanity and let alone the entertaintment industry.

I don't think she was that great an actress, and her stories about drug addiction and bizzare behaviour over rides her fame.

REST IN PEAce , but I wont miss you,

besides Princess Leia role, she was not very well known for her acting prowess except being the duaghter of famous parents, Debbie reynolds and Eddie Fisher.

Carrie Fisher, Bipolar Disorder, Addiction & The People She Inspired

By John M. Grohol, Psy.D.
~ 3 min read

Carrie Fisher & Bipolar DisorderWhen Carrie Fisher passed away on Tuesday morning at age 60, she left behind a legacy of being one of the first and most vocal Hollywood celebrities and actors to speak openly about mental illness. Specifically, Fisher battled bipolar disorder and addiction throughout most of her life, but never was shy speaking about these demons, all the while never letting herself be solely defined by them.

So while most of the world will remember her as Princess Leia — the fierce, independent heroine in the original Star Wars movies — many people will remember her for her ability to give dignity to those living with the most debilitating silent disease — mental illness. As a champion for people with bipolar disorder and addiction, we remember her today along with millions of others.

Carrier Fisher, who died at her home on Tuesday morning after suffering from a heart attack on a flight back back home to Los Angeles from London on Friday. She was the daughter of actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher, but is best known for her starring role in the science-fiction movie, Star Wars, released in 1977 (as well as its two follow-on sequels).

Although first diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 24, she didn’t come to accept the diagnosis until five years later. She blames her denial on her battles at the time with addiction (mainly cocaine throughout the early 1980s).

Given her popular presence on Twitter, it only seems fitting to turn to Twitter to get a glimpse of how well-loved she was — and how much she will be missed. The outpouring of well wishers on Twitter today has been overwhelming, and a tribute to the impact she’s had in helping defeat the discrimination and prejudice that comes with acknowledging one’s battle with a mental illness.

In life who doesn't go at the end of the road? Be it young or old, we eventually have to but it is not up to us to decide. What matter is how you make your's out while you still have a go at it? No need to be King of the world to rate your 'successful' achievements. Nor be down just because your life was pretty humble. You answer only to yourself, whether you are the 'Big Bad Ass' dude or the simpleton. We feel sad for those who are gone because there was something in them that we will missed. And just maybe, he/she was one of a kind, to us, no replacement. That is called respect, something they worked, to achieve. Hopefully, someday you'll have yours too. The dignity to be respected, dead or alive.

Barry Gibb: I'm terrified of dying

Bee Gees singer Barry Gibb has admitted he is terrified of dying.

Bang Showbiz on February 2, 2017, 8:00 pm

Barry Gibb is terrified of dying.

The 70-year-old Bee Gees singer has admitted that losing his three brothers - Maurice, Robin and Andy - and being scalded by boiling water as a child has left him feeling paranoid about his own well-being.

He shared: "I avoid boiling water to this day. I avoid fire too. My sister caught fire once. That was terrifying so I am really aware of what those things can do.

"If I get near boiling water something happens and I have to back off. It isn't just age, anything can happen. So I don't do things like go on rollercoasters,

"I'm a safety-first type of person. I don't drive fast. I don't know why I am still here but I am very nervous about anything that could be fatal. That's all down to that accident."

Barry also admitted he is close to retirement, revealing he is now forced to wear hearing aids full-time.

He told 'Piers Morgan's Life Stories': "My hearing is not what it was. I wear a hearing aid all the time now.

Barry Gibb Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards    Barry Gibb performs onstage during the Miami Beach 100 Concert on March 26, 2015 in Miami Beach, Florida

"Most musicians my age suffer hearing problems due to technology, which is where you wear the in-ear monitors. Billy Joel wouldn't do it but everyone else I know does it.

"Over the years it causes a lot of damage because it's very close to your ear drums."

And Barry has come to accept that, at his age, he will never top the band's glory days.

He said: "I know that once I feel I'm going down and not up, then I'll take a seat, pick up the remote and give up the idea of being a pop artist. I don't think that applies to somebody once they get past the age I am now, so it's very close.

"I just want to be remembered as one of the Bee Gees. I can never be the brand name the Bee Gees were, I can never make that all happen again. It ends at some point."

Miriam Colon, Puerto Rican star of stage and screen featured in “Scarface,” died Friday, March 3, 2017, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from a pulmonary infection, according to The Associated Press. She was 80.

Colon may be best remembered by audiences as the mother of Al Pacino’s character Tony Montana in “Scarface” (1983). During her long career she did much to create opportunities for fellow Hispanic actors, including co-founding the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater in New York City.

Born August 20, 1936 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, she grew up in San Juan. She moved to New York City in 1953 where she enrolled in the famous Actors Studio.

She frequently appeared on TV westerns like “Gunsmoke” and “Bonanza” during the 1950s and 1960s. She had a role in fellow Actors Studio alumni Marlon Brando’s directorial debut, “One-eyed Jacks” (1961).

In 1967 she co-founded the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater Company, which continues to tour and produce bilingual theater for neighborhoods in New York City. She often performed in addition to directing and developing Hispanic writers, directors and actors.

In 1993 she received a lifetime achievement Obie Award for her work in off-broadway theater. In 2014 she was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama for her work as an actress and theater founder.

She continued to work consistently in film and television, including an appearance in “Better Call Saul” in 2015.

Colon is survived by her husband of more than 40 years, Fred Valle.

Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington has committed suicide ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us the singer hanged himself at a private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in L.A. County. His body was discovered Thursday just before 9 AM.

Chester was married with 6 children from 2 wives.

The singer struggled with drugs and alcohol for years. He had said in the past he had considered committing suicide because he had been abused as a child by an older male.

Chester was very close with Chris Cornell, who himself committed suicide by hanging in May. Today would have been Cornell's 53rd birthday. Chester wrote an open letter to Chris on the day of Chris' suicide.

Cornell's wife, Vicky, tweeted out a message following the news of Chester's death, saying, "Just when I thought my heart couldn't break any more ... I love you T."

The band has had a string of hits over the years, including "Faint," "In the End" and "Crawling." Linkin Park crossed music genres, collaborating with Jay-Z.

The band's album, "Meteora," was one of the biggest alternative albums in music history.

Bennington was 41.

RIP

It has been two weeks but I'm surprised nobody mentioned Tom Petty. He may not have been well known in Singapore but he was a fairly big music star in America from the late 1970s to mid 1990s. My favorite song by him was "Don't Come Around Here No More" because the music video had an "Alice In Wonderland" theme and my sister always made me watch it.

"Don't Do Me Like That" - 1979

"Refugee" - 1980

"Stop Dragging My Heart Around" (with Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac) - 1981

"Don't Come Around Here No More" - 1985

"Free Falling" - 1989

"I Won't Back Down" - 1989

"Running Down A Dream" - 1989

"Yer So Bad" - 1990

"Learning To Fly" - 1991

"Into The Great Wide Open" - 1991

"Mary Jane's Last Dance" - 1993

"You Don't Know How It Feels" - 1994

Those are the 12 songs of his that I know and which are generally considered to be his biggest hits. The harmony / melody / tune of "I Won't Back Down" was ripped off by Sam Smith for "Stay With Me" in recent years. That song has now been repopularized in response to the Las Vegas Massacre, since that terrible event took place on the same weekend of his death.
