According to Chinese state media, nucleic acid of the novel coronavirus was found at a patient’s home. It is the first time that scientists in Guangzhou have found the virus in an external environment.

An official for the Disease Control and Prevention Centre in Guangzhou said that they found the nucleic acid of the novel coronavirus on a doorknob at the house of a patient diagnosed with the disease. Nucleic acids are basically the building blocks of the RNA or DNA. According to China Daily, the discovery has prompted the public to “pay more attention to hand hygiene and other indirect transmissions of the virus”.

According to CGTN, the official listed “mobile phones, keyboards and faucet handles” as other areas prone to contamination.

While the official number of days the virus can survive on a surface has yet to be confirmed, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong mentioned in parliament that the rough estimate right now is about two to three days.

That means you’re a bit slow liao, many places gloves are running low in stock, even value$ is selling gloves at 19.90 per box. Usual price is around $8-10.

Not just atm or lift buttons,

- supermarket touch screens

- shopping centre/retail shops where you press button to enter, and all their handles

- MRT top up machines

- bus handles/buttons

- MONEY

Go bank and take cash but the notes can be dirty too....use your housekey to poke the button but remember to soak it in alcohol  to kill the virus....Wash hand more frequently after contacts,  there is no way to escape but life still need to be as normal as possible.

OMG.... And he got it when he was on a biz trip to SINGAPORE and he was in contact with a colleague from Wuhan when he was here.... He cannot possibly be the only person in contact with the inflected when he was in Singapore, right? And he started showing syndromes as early as 29 Jan too. Looks like it might just be the beginning now.

The Malaysian man had travelled to Singapore for a meeting from Jan 16 to 23 with colleagues from China - including one from Wuhan.

Yes, so if he started developing the syndromes on the 29th Jan, that will imply he was most likely infected on contact with the Wuhan colleague on 16 Jan in Singapore, and started developing the symptoms around the 14 days incubation period.

In other words, he himself was already a carrier during the 7 days when he was here in Singapore. And we don't even know if the Wuhan colleague was around Singapore before, during and after the 16th to 23 Jan.  Singaporeans' immunity cannot be so strong that only a Malaysian kenna the virus but not Singaporeans. Whoever started the idea that we do not need to wear mask since there is no community outbreak yet, I hope you keep to your words and still refrain from wearing mask until the government says so, OK?

Good luck!

And to think that each household were rationed with only 4 mask? Why? So that we have more mask to spare for them to ship to China?

This is just the first exhibition of where the loyalties of all those foreigners will lay, when a crisis happens. And to think we have Singaporeans who think so highly of them. At any first signs of trouble, we will become the first sacrificial goats for them to use.

The first citizen infection case here was diagnosed on 3 Feb, but news was only released late 4 Feb. And the Minister can immediately have responses ready, and try watering down the situation which is so obviously escalating. They had all the time they needed to stage a show for this media response. Make your own decision on what to believe and what not to.

Maybe this PRC singer has the answer...

A Malaysian hospital today said it taken down posters that offended some for asking visitors to declare if they’d recently been to Singapore and Sabah to deter spread of the deadly coronavirus outbreak.

The poster was removed after a number of complaints, mainly by those in Singapore and the Malaysian state of Sabah, for equating them with Wuhan, China, where the outbreak of the deadly SARS-like virus began and the vast majority of cases remain concentrated.

“KPJ Rawang Specialist Hospital takes note of all parties’ feedback on the poster snapshot. We deeply regret and apologize for this oversight,” a statement posted to the hospital’s Facebook page today read.

“Please rest assured there was no intention of offending any Individual or State or Country. We have taken corrective action to remove the poster immediately,” it added.

The hospital’s poster, which has been circulating online, listed what seems a common-sense appeal for people who’ve set foot in all four locales where the virus has been spreading to

“Dear valued customers, please inform us if you have been to China, Wuhan, Singapore or Sabah or if you have close contact with positive novel coronavirus patients in the past 14 days,” it read.

But upset, people were. The poster triggered complaints from Singaporeans offended that they were being unfairly singled out. The hospital that put up the poster is located in the Rawang town of Malaysia’s Selangor state.

“Our neighbor already asking about travel history to SG. If they get more paranoid, will affect our weekend [Johor Bahru] shoppers or not?” a post on Facebook page All Singapore Stuff said.

One person pointed out that numerous Malaysians are already in Singapore nearly every day.

“Our neighbors are working in Singapore and returning back daily to their homeland,” Facebook user Abhilash Krishnan wrote.

“That’s okay, because they’re confident that the virus comes from us,” AL Amin responded, snarkily.

The 2019-nCoV coronavirus has infected more than 20,000 and killed at least 491 people in China. It has spread to Singapore, where 24 are now infected, as well as Malaysia, where a number of the cases were confirmed following recent travels to Singapore.

Malaysia yesterday announced its first citizen to be infected following a business trip to the Lion City where he attended a meeting involving Chinese individuals. A South Korean man who had made contact with the same Malaysian was today confirmed by the South Korean government to be infected by the virus.

There were at least 10 confirmed cases of the virus in Malaysia as of today.

China air force to appear at Singapore show despite virus

Singapore has clamped down on visitors from China in a bid to stop the spread of the coronavirus, but will allow the countries airforce to take part in a popular air show

China's air force will take part in the Singapore Airshow for the first time next week, organisers said, despite the city-state having banned travellers from China due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Singapore last week barred passengers who had recently travelled to mainland China from landing or transitting through the city in a bid to contain the virus that has killed hundreds and infected tens of thousands.

Visas for Chinese passport holders were also suspended.

An aerobatics team from the People's Liberation Army Air Force had been given permission, however, to take part in Asia's biggest air show, which opens Tuesday.

"The Ba Yi aerobatics team has taken proactive measures like health checks and temperature screenings to ensure that they are healthy before they fly into Singapore," organiser Experia Events said in a statement late Wednesday.

"They are taking all necessary precautionary measures in line with existing guidelines while they are in Singapore."

China's Xinhua news agency said members of the team arrived in Singapore on Wednesday.

The team, established in 1962, will participate in the aerial displays which are a highlight of the biennial airshow.

An aerobatics team from the South Korean air force pulled out of the event earlier this week because of virus fears.

Several exhibitors, including Canada's Bombardier and 10 Chinese companies, have also withdrawn, and a conference that traditionally precedes the main event has been cancelled.

So far more than 560 people have been killed and over 28,000 infected in China by the virus, which has spread to two dozen countries.

Singapore has reported 28 cases

WHO investigates Singapore conference linked to foreign coronavirus spread

SINGAPORE: At least three employees of a multinational company that held a meeting of more than 100 international staff in Singapore have contracted the new coronavirus, sparking a World Health Organization investigation of the case.

Malaysia and South Korea have confirmed three cases of the virus related to the mid-January company meeting held with 94 overseas staff at the Grand Hyatt hotel, and Singapore said late on Wednesday (Feb 5) four other attendees were showing symptoms

The sister of a Malaysian who attended has since been infected, while Singapore said virus symptoms had surfaced in four of the firm's local staff.

Authorities have not revealed the name of the company, although Korea has said it was an international sales firm.

Malaysian health authorities have said people from China including one from the city of Wuhan, where the virus emerged in December, attended.

"WHO is coordinating with relevant ministries of health in relation to it," Olivia Lawe-Davies, a spokeswoman for the WHO, said in response to questions from Reuters.

"As countries are stepping up surveillance, the detection of more cases of local transmission can be expected."

Singapore has reported 28 cases of the coronavirus, including some involving person-to-person transmission.

The cases linked to the Singapore business meeting provide more evidence the virus is spreading through human-to-human contact outside China, which the WHO has said is deeply concerning and could signal a much larger outbreak.

China reported its biggest daily jump in fatalities from the virus on Thursday, up 73 to 563, although there have been only two reported deaths outside mainland China.

Malaysian health authorities first revealed the link to the Singapore business meeting when they confirmed the case of a 41-year-old Malaysian who had attended it, along with colleagues from China.

South Korea subsequently confirmed two cases involving South Koreans who attended the conference. The Koreans and the Malaysian shared a buffet meal during the conference, South Korean media reported.

Of the 15 Singapore attendees, four have been referred to its National Centre for Infectious Diseases, Singapore's health ministry said. All the overseas attendees have left Singapore, the ministry added.

A spokesman for the Grand Hyatt, Gerald Kheng, said the hotel had been deep cleaned after it was first informed of the incident by the health ministry on Tuesday and it was not aware of any other cases among guests or staff.

In a statement on Thursday, the hotel's general manager Mr Willi Martin said the hotel has engaged a government-appointed external agency to carry out a "thorough sanitisation" and deep cleaning of "potentially impacted guestrooms".

"The Singapore Ministry of Health is still investigating the cases with the relevant authorities and has not advised details on how, where or when these individuals were infected with the virus," he said.

Singapore says no evidence has emerged of widespread community spread but it announced new precautionary measures on Tuesday including halting group activities such as school assemblies.

Several firms in Singapore have suspended business and media events, including a big travel fair, but the Singapore Airshow is set to go ahead next week albeit on a smaller scale
