to me, i am not here to bicker or to rant.. i am here to update with the rest on the news regarding this covid19. I merely felt that we're discussing & sharing knowledge, but talking bad abt politicians & gossiping of politicans are out of my league.

i know how dirty & how black politics & politicans are.

This is just my point.. if this thread is lock.. so be it.

From tomorrow need to scan your NRIC more often for visiting certain outlets...

Looks like we can't escape to download the "app".

Note: the list of the locations need to implement SafeEntry will be updated gradually. the list here is as of 9 May. You need to check every day if any new inclusions.

Just wonder how they will manage all the data, if so much is collected on a daily basis.

George Orwell must be placed posthumously into the list of soothsayers now...

I copied the new regulations here:

Implementation of SafeEntry

5.             Alongside measures to reduce the risk of transmission in daily interactions and activities, we need to continue to strengthen our contact tracing regime through the use of technology.

6.             As announced previously, businesses and services that are in operation must come on board SafeEntry to log the check-in of employees and visitors. As a start, deployment will be made mandatory for places where individuals are likely to be in close proximity for prolonged periods or in enclosed spaces, or where there is higher traffic. To date, SafeEntry has been deployed at over 16,000 premises. The list of facilities/places where SafeEntry must be deployed from 12 May 2020 is found in the Annex. This list will be updated at https://www.safeentry.gov.sg/deployment as more activities and services resume.

7.             Employees and visitors should check-in and check-out of workplaces and other venues using SafeEntry to help our contact tracers establish cluster links and transmission chains. It is important that everyone plays their part and uses SafeEntry, so that we can collectively prevent new clusters from forming.

Annex:

Places where SafeEntry must be deployed from 12 May 2020
• Workplaces e.g. offices, factories
• Schools and educational institutes
• Preschools
• Healthcare facilities e.g. hospitals, clinics TCM clinics
• Residential care facilities e.g. nursing homes
• Hairdressers barbers
• Supermarkets
• Selected popular wet markets Geylang Serai Market, Block 104 105 Yishun
Ring Road (Chong Pang Market), Block 20/21 Marsiling Lane, and Block 505
Jurong West Street 52
• Malls
• Hotels

SafeEntry will be progressively rolled out to taxis from 12 May 2020 to better support
contact tracing efforts for street hail trips. Commuters should scan the SafeEntry QR
codes deployed in taxis when taking street hail trips.

Retail outlets where customers are unlikely to be in close proximity for a prolonged
period of time, such as pharmacies, convenience stores and heartland provision
shops, are encouraged, but not required, to implement SafeEntry for customers

F&B outlets are not required to deploy SafeEntry for customers for now as they are
only open for delivery and/or takeaway

Retail and F&B outlets must still implement SafeEntry for employees as per all workplaces and adhere strictly to the other safe
management measures, e.g. safe distancing.

SINGAPORE - The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced 486 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore on Monday (May 11), taking the total count to 23,822.

Two Singaporeans and permanent residents are among the new patients.

MOH said the lower number of cases on Monday is partly due to fewer tests being processed at a testing laboratory, as that laboratory is "recalibrating its apparatus for one of the test kits".

COVID-19: 20,000 migrant workers to be discharged by end-May, but cases from dormitories likely to remain high

SINGAPORE: The number of migrant workers who have COVID-19 is likely to “remain high for some time” while “aggressive” testing is carried out to progressively clear those living in dormitories, so that they can safely return to work when the time comes, said Minister for Health Gan Kim Yong on Tuesday (May 12).

Authorities have drawn up plans to allow migrant workers living in dormitories to return to work in a safe way when some economic activities restart, said the minister, who was speaking at a COVID-19 multi-ministry task force press conference.

A total of 20,000 of these workers who have COVID-19 will be discharged by the end of the month, said Minister for National Development Lawrence Wong, adding that more are expected to be discharged in June.

“The task force has drawn up a plan to allow migrant workers residing in the dormitories, including both purpose-built dormitories as well as factory-converted dormitories, to be progressively cleared so that they can safely return to work when the time comes,” said Mr Gan.

“Our aim is to make sure that as far as possible, all migrant workers are free of infection before resuming work when the sectors gradually reopen," he said. "This will involve a differentiated approach, and a combination of assessment tests and isolation process.”

Currently, Singapore is testing about 3,000 people living in the dormitories a day, but officials are looking to increase this number “over the coming weeks”, Mr Wong said.

Authorities are testing workers using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, but as this method does not pick up the virus when it is in its incubation stage, the worker will be isolated for 14 days before another test is conducted, said the minister.

The system is necessary to “ensure that we are thorough and systematic”, clearing the dormitories of COVID-19 infection and verifying the health status of all workers before they resume work, he added.

For dormitories with high infection rates, serological tests will be used to pick up positive cases that might have already recovered from COVID-19, said Mr Wong.

The number of workers who are reporting sick with acute respiratory illness has been decreasing every day, compared to at the peak of the outbreak, added Mr Wong.

However, he noted that the reported number of migrant worker cases each day remains high.

“That's because we are continuing to test many workers, including the ones who are asymptomatic and well, because this is part of our process to clear the dormitories systematically.”

Mr Wong said it will take several weeks to test all 300,000-plus foreign workers in dormitories, but the timeline to completely test all of them will depend on screening outcomes.

Based on the cases so far, the prevalence rate for this group is slightly above six per cent, he said.

“What is the true underlying prevalence rate, we will not know until we complete the tests,” he said. “If it is low, then maybe it can be cleared faster. But if it is high and then you have people who need to be isolated, quarantined, then it will take more steps.”

Adding that it is “very encouraging” to see many workers “recovering well” and ready to be discharged, Mr Wong said: “ I think it’s coming together, just as we ease on the restrictions of the circuit breaker and reopen the economy.

"We are now in a good position to plan forward and ease some of the restrictions … allow more workers to resume work beyond Jun 1, and then gradually take steps to reopen the economy."

Even as measures are eased, Singapore will still have to be prepared for new cases to emerge, said Mr Wong.

“As we go about this exercise, all of us have to be prepared that new cases may well emerge. It's inevitable," he said.

"The rapid reproduction rate of the virus may be low today, but once more activities were to resume, there may well be more contact and we may see new cases emerging. It has happened in many other countries as well.”

SINGAPORE: Hairdressers and barbers across Singapore took out their scissors for the first time in weeks on Tuesday (May 12), snipping off the overgrown locks of an endless stream of customers, as the Government relaxed some "circuit breaker" measures.

After three weeks of suspension amid enhanced circuit measures announced on Apr 21, certain shops and services were allowed to resume operations on Tuesday - albeit with certain restrictions and precautions.

Basic haircuts at hairdressers and barbers have been allowed to resume, but this must be done within an hour.

American pilot jailed for breaching stay-home notice to buy masks, thermometer

SINGAPORE: An American pilot working for Federal Express (FedEx) was jailed for four weeks on Wednesday (May 13) for breaching his stay-home notice to buy masks and a thermometer from Chinatown.

Brian Dugan Yeargan, 44, pleaded guilty to one count of breaching his stay order, which required him to stay in his hotel room for 14 days from Apr 3 to Apr 17.

His lawyer told the court that he had left the room as his sick wife had asked him to buy protective equipment before returning home.

The court heard that Yeargan, a commercial cargo pilot with FedEx, arrived at the aircraft parking area at Changi Airport Terminal 3 after 3am on Apr 3.

However, when officers checked on Yeargan at about 11.30am on Apr 5, he was not in his hotel room.

He had left the room about 15 minutes earlier, walking to the MRT station and taking a train to City Hall. He then walked to Chinatown Point, where he visited at least four shops.

He bought a thermometer and a few boxes of face masks and was heading to the train station to return to the hotel when his FedEx office called him and said he was not supposed to leave his hotel room, and to head back immediately.

Yeargan took a cab back to the hotel, arriving at about 2.15pm.

The prosecutor asked for at least six to eight weeks' jail, saying that this was the first prosecution under Regulation 3 of the Infectious Diseases (COVID-19 - Stay Orders) Regulations 2020, which was enacted to combat the escalating COVID-19 infection rate in Singapore.

"It is necessary for the court to send a clear message to the public that breaches of stay orders or stay-home notices will not be tolerated, and that severe punishments will be meted out," said Mr V Jesudevan.

Moment Brit woman is dragged out of Tenerife swimming pool and ARRESTED for flouting coronavirus lockdown

Exclusive
  • 17 Mar 2020, 12:12

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11190783/brit-woman-tenerife-swimming-pool-arrested-coronavirus-lockdown/

She had earlier been doing roly-polies in the pool of Paradise Park hotel in Los Cristianos to the annoyance of hotel staff.

Spain is in the midst of a two-week lockdown – with tourists and locals ordered to stay indoors until further notice due to the coronavirus.

But shocking footage captured the rebel holidaymaker jumping into the closed pool before yelling at a burly Spanish police officer armed with a baton.

She refused to leave despite staff at the £130-a-night three-star resort repeatedly instructing her to, forcing a police officer to strip down to his boxers and jump in to drag her out.

DRAGGED OUT

Crowds cheered as he took the drastic measure, heroically outswimming the rebellious woman in a matter of seconds.

A second cop then pinned her down and handcuffed her before she was escorted away.

A source said: “I gathered from the exchange that she was unhappy with her room because there wasn’t enough light and the hotel wouldn’t give her another one.

“She then went over the barriers and got into the pool. The staff repeatedly told her to get out but she just refused.

“Two officers arrived on motorbikes with sirens. She was just laying in the pool as the reception staff were asking her to leave.

“The police were shouting at her to get out and she was shouting back ‘no’ and kept on swimming around.

“A police officer then had to strip off to his boxers, jump in and drag her out.

“Everyone was in their rooms looking down as well so it caused quite a scene.”

Roughly 200 people, mostly Brits, are stuck in the hotel on the Spanish island after Spain announced a national lock-down.

If it were worth to make a psychological profile of him,  one would see a strong inferiority complex.

This urge to fill threads with HIS posts containing endless quotations that one can easily find elsewhere,  this vulnerability to be so easily enraged by criticism and seek reprisal, and yes,  his idea that he is an elementary school teacher disciplining his little students,  all point to the above conclusion.

We are all adults,  some with high qualifications and proven competence.  His "reprimanding" is ridiculous and can be taken as that,  but on the long run it also becomes irritating.

Please don't suggest to him to apply for Moderator!

As of 16 May 2020, 12pm, we have preliminarily confirmed an additional 465 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore, the vast majority of whom are Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories. Four cases are Singaporeans/ Permanent Residents.

The headlines are standard. They just change the date n the number  of cases.

Why  are  Staff  Without  Healthcare  Background  Paid  S$3,800,

while  Nursing  Grads  Paid  S$1,900?  Nurse  Wants  to  Know

https://mothership.sg/2020/05/swabber-job-pay-nurses

As Covid-19 continues to persist in Singapore, more healthcare workers are being recruited to join the frontline in taking care of those who are down.  An open recruitment call for new people to step up as healthcare workers was put out on 14 May.  The temporary job position was advertised as such:

A recruitment exercise for thousands of swabbers and swab assistants. Remuneration at $3800 and $3400 respectively.

This job will entail risks, so training will be provided and swabbers and swab assistants will wear PPE and masks.

Questions Raised about Disparity in Salary for No Healthcare Experience

However, questions have been raised about the discrepancy in pay for these part-time positions as compared to standard industry remuneration for healthcare professionals with the requisite nursing background.  One nurse, who has 11 years experience in the field, has written a Facebook post highlighting the lower wages that nurses get, despite having the qualifications and experience.  She wrote that she does "understand and accept" that there's a higher risk of catching Covid-19 for this current temporary job, but it does not explain the pay discrepancy.  She argued by asking if she can be paid more if she applied for this temporary job, since her nursing experience should be factored in: "If I apply for this job, do I get higher pay because I have a Degree in Nursing with 11 years experience?  If no, then what message are you trying to put across?"

According to her, she was paid S$1,900 as basic salary in her first year.  After more than 5 years in the field, the salary of healthcare professionals is not even S$3,800 per month.  She ended her post with a sobering point: Pay healthcare workers better and not just provide platitudes on social media. She wrote: "Don’t have to put up a big show of thanking us on social media, but give us tangible appreciation in our daily work.  This is reality."

In other countries, such as Canada, essential workers are getting a pay raise this Covid-19 season:

You can read her full post here:

“I am really appalled at how much the government is offering to pay for non-healthcare background people, I do understand and accept that there’re higher risks involved in this application and also appreciate those who stepped forward to do this. However, I really want to highlight the under carpet issue of salary differences.

Do you know how much is the average nursing graduate pay?  Our first year we are only paid 1.9k as a basic salary. (Perhaps times are better now)  Up to 5-6 years, our basic salary has not even reach 3.8k.  And yet people with no healthcare background gets a 3.4k/3.8k immediately.  Even the SQ Care Ambassadors get higher pay than our new graduates!  Are you saying that our diplomas and degrees are worthless in the usual day?  You mean healthcare workers do not face risks on usual day work?

You may say is a temporary job and higher risk with less benefits thus need higher compensation.

So I ask,  If I apply for this job, do I get higher pay because I have a Degree in Nursing with 11 years experience?  If no, then what message are you trying to put across?  I hope after this pandemic, there will be reviews of pay for all healthcare workers.  Don’t have to put up a big show of thanking us on social media, but give us tangible appreciation in our daily work. This is reality.”

If all the  full time professional healthcare workers resign now...how ah.?

It will demoralize the nurses. And link to them not attempting to working hard. One thing will lead to another.  Cause and effect chain will start.

Tomorrow total cases will be over 30, 000.

What a shame when poorer countries like Vietnam n Cambodia are having 0 new case now and their total cases are less than 300 n 200 respectively with no death at all.

Even Thailand has 0 new case too with just 3000 cases.

The current PAP government did not do the right thing from the beginning of COVID-19 infection for the People and FWs. How much money, good food, good housing, cruise lodging, the PAP government is giving to these migrants or FWs, is no use, it's too late, in the first place, they have done wrong to them, just like they have done wrong to all Singaporean for 50 years, because of greeds.

The migrants are modern slavery created by the PAP Party, PA Grassroots leader makes hundreds and hundreds of millions own expensive Sentosa property and having a party, when the COVID is infecting the whole of Singapore they make it worst for not doing the right thing, housing FWs in the unhygienic dormitories which are against Human Rights.

They implemented CB(circuit breaker) for their failure, their incompetent causes the coronavirus infection to be more than 26,000 cases, 21 death, most of the cases are from the dormitories, finding difficulty in controlling COVID-19, the CB(circuit breaker) was extended further but no red alert. When they were looking after the migrant workers, they also neglected all the Singapore people, the $600 is just a wayang, one time only, continuing another month, lots of citizens will kana the CB(chee bye), out of job, no money, can't use CPF, waiting to die either by the virus or die by hunger, ki siow (go mad) walking naked on the road, teow lau (jump from HDB), commit suicide, murder each other, throw killer litters, fire etc.

If the majority is going to vote for a garbage government with no honesty, no transparency, no accountability and no integrity, I'm sorry........all of us are going to be in dire straits after the COVID and GE. Because of coronavirus pandemic, BBC News: 'World faces worst recession since Great Depression', NY Times: 'The world is almost certainly ensnared in a devastating recession delivered by the coronavirus pandemic.' In Singapore, there will be more inflations, more GST, more PUB, more transportation fees, more ERP, more banking fees, more Medical fees, more construction fees, more conservancy, more educational fees, take back even more than they gave, more to come you will see after the GE. Why??? The PAP government is desperate running out of money.

Straits Times (May 17): on Robertson Quay ... sad!

Tiong Bahru resident Joanna Fong, 36, who happened to be cycling in the area at around 6.30pm on Saturday, told The Straits Times: "It was like a square in Europe in summer. Everyone was drinking with kids and families all sitting together."

"I was so angry. If any of them gets Covid-19 now, it's taxpayers' money paying for their hospital bills... It was all expats, and the locals were there jogging past, shaking their heads. It's irresponsible, you have no regard for the country that is hosting you."

The marketing manager at SPH radio said she saw two uniformed policemen in the area, but they "just walked past". She added that the crowds in the Robertson Quay area are a regular occurrence nearly every day, and "it's like a street festival... without the music".

1 hour ago, Since u r here said:

It is not today we r facing flu and viruses first time

it will not end as there might b relapses too and next wave coming soon

so it is ultra silly and naive to see it so risky that basic economic activities have to stop for more than a mth

Risk??? R for those who doesnt know one another and then have fun at entertainment venue or too large a grp, small grp are fine just like:

https://mothership.sg/2020/05/robertson-quay-circuit-breaker/ (look at all the pics listed)

use the risk mgt analysis listed here:

U will know how do u see the risk? Esp when there r 3 or more No! To the following qns:

Are sporeans afraid of virus - No!
if made to return to office to work as per normal will they feedback to co. it 's risky - No!
if given a choice to wear mask or not, wil some sporeans choose  to wear :  No!
iwill u choose object of going to markets and queue in a compact manner, like this : NO!
if there are totally no fines and penalties, would u stay home MORE and faithfully lock yourself in: NO!

Double standard. Why no aunties or uncles scold them?

Maybe this is what the Shunfu lady meant: They are sovereign. They are not (many) person. They are the 'we' people.

Crowds at Robertson Quay hang out & drink on day 40 of circuit breaker

robertson-quay-gathering.jpg

It's day 41 of the circuit breaker period, which means about two more weeks before this extraordinary period ends.

But some are not going to wait that long even as the authorities have been urging people in Singapore not to be complacent in our collective bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Crowd gathered at Robertson Quay

A dozen or so people were caught sitting together and supposedly hanging out at Robertson Quay on Saturday, May 16 evening, according to a Facebook post by Lectress Pat.

robertson-quay-hang-out.jpg

A few of those out and about were spotted without face masks.

Lectress Pat wrote that there were no safe distancing enforcers present at Robertson Quay, even though there were two enforcers and one police officer at the park connector.

One of the photos showed F&B establishments along Robertson Quay selling alcohol and some customers were hanging out outside a craft beer bar, TAP.

Half-empty plastic cups of beer were left on the table as three individuals were chatting by the side.

The post which has been shared over 1,500 times on Facebook has caused many to feel upset by the socially irresponsible behaviour, which were not caught by the enforcers.

Forbid sale of takeaway alcohol at restaurants along Robertson Quay

According to a Facebook post on May 17 by TAP, one of the Robertson Quay establishments, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) had stepped in and that "there will be an immediate ban on the sale of alcohol, whether takeaway or delivery" for all restaurants along that stretch.

While TAP did not state the reason for this sudden change in regulation, they added that "we have not been at any fault for the mess".

The Robertson Quay outlet will also be closed until the end of the circuit breaker.

TAP also wrote: "Unfortunately, difficult situations show us how selfish some can be and the rest of us will just have to deal with it."

But the post has since been taken down.

At 3.55pm on May 17, Tap put up a new announcement saying that the authorities have allowed them to do deliveries.

In response to Mothership's query, the URA spokesperson said that the agency is aware of the online posts and articles of people congregating around restaurants in Robertson Quay.

Majority of operators and individuals complied with safe distancing measures during their safe distancing patrol in that area, the statement added.

The URA spokesperson also said that the agency has issued a written direction to cease the sale of takeaway alcohols at some restaurants as that has contributed to people gathering in the area.

Here's the statement in full:

"We are aware of online posts and articles of people congregating around restaurants in Robertson Quay as well as rumours of a ban on the sale of alcohol in the area.

During our safe distancing patrols at Robertson Quay, our officers found the majority of operators and individuals to be compliant with safe distancing measures. However, we observed that some restaurants in the area were selling take-away alcohol to patrons, which had contributed to more individuals gathering around these premises. To prevent such gatherings from taking place, we have issued a written direction to these restaurants to cease the sale of take-away alcohol with immediate effect. Any contravention of such directions is an offence and we will not hesitate to take such parties to task.

In addition, we will not hesitate to take further enforcement action against business operators if we find other infringements of safe distancing measures. Similarly, individuals found to be in breach of safe distancing measures will also be fined.

We urge everyone to play their part in preventing the transmission of COVID-19 by adhering to the safe distancing measures and minimise the number of trips out of their homes, wear their masks properly before and after strenuous exercise, and not meeting people from other households to socialise."

A 41-year-old hotel receptionist who wanted to be known only as Doreen said: “It has been this crowded… since one or two weeks ago. I think a lot of them are taking the safe distancing measures very lightly.

“I’ve seen some of them walk around without masks on, especially in the evenings. It’s like they don’t care.”

Store manager at Botany cafe Aldreen Barron said he does the same thing, but with limited staff and an overwhelming number of orders during busy periods, he does not have the time to tell those lingering in its alfresco area to leave the premises.

There are also the stubborn ones who refused to listen and some even insisted on having their meals there, shared the store managers.

At Japanese restaurant Dashi Master Marusaya, a manager who wanted to be known only as Andrew said there were several instances where he had to repeatedly tell customers to leave.

“Some of them are just stubborn… they will not gather in your premises but outside. How can we stop them?”

Hi, sorry but pardon me ... I read and read and don't quite understand what you are saying.

.... and your message is: that we should forgive and understand the expats for their behavior? Because no one can tolerate being locked up at home? That if they contract the virus, it is their own fault? But what if they passed the virus to the local Singaporeans?

I think most of them (if not all) are expats and not tourists. Thanks!
