Lungker
My pc, 3 and a half years old started making noise from inside the CPU three days ago. I suspect it is the fan.My friend opened up the casing and there were three fans inside! I did not know that there are supposed to be three fans inside. Now I know. The fan attached to the PSU is not running at all.The fan attached to the processor is the one making the noise. It is whirling away like crazy, not stopping at all.The ventilator fan is running quietly. So, what's the problem? Is the PSU fan kaput? making the processor fan work overtime? I am just guessing. My friend had dismantled the processor fan and cleaned out everything. It is working fine but running non-stop making lots of noise. Or should I be replacing this processor fan. Or maybe I should change to a new pc? The pc works fine btw. Thanks in advance for any help. Quote Please play safely! Use a condom if you are having anal sex. IkuTube
there were three fans inside!I am a fan's fan . The more fans inside, the merrier as it cools down the heat especially if you are over clocking your system.01. The fan attached to the PSU is not running at all.02. Is the PSU fan kaput? 03. making the processor fan work overtime?01. Oh oh .. This is bad news if PSU fan is not running - there will be no 'in' and 'out' to dissipate the heat. 02. Sometimes, it is dust that stop the fan from spinning. However, if you have cleaned the PSU fan and it is still not running, it is a good choice to replace it and immediately 03. There is no co-relation between PSU fan and Processor fan. The work separately. It is working fine but running non-stop making lots of noise. Or should I be replacing this processor fan.Actually, when your friend uninstalled the heatsink and fan, he should also apply a new thermal paste for the processor. Applying thermal paste will lessen the heat. Some 'smart' heatsink will overwork when detecting a rise in processor's temperature.Perhaps, you can get your friend to change the heatsink to a better one. It is a little pricey but worth the money.Yes, it is good to replace processor fan! Lungker
Thanks IK, now the next question is where can I bring my pc for servicing? My friend is not a pc servicing guy. He is just a cute young man that I occasionally ask to "service and repair" my hardware. This pc is compaq and I had it for three and a half years. Because I blew cigarette smoke into it for at least 3 to 4 hours daily, I think it is dying of cancer. However, I am quite happy with it because it is using XP and I hate Vista. Unless I absolutely need to, I'd rather stick to this machine. Thanks. Quote Please play safely! Use a condom if you are having anal sex.
IkuTube
Ah, must be the tar! and you are probably right about the 'cancer' thing. There are few shops in Sim Lim Square that would be happy to earn your money there. Usually, these shops are situated at the 'backlane'. Though, I am not sure if they are happy to service a Compaq PC - hehe, cos most of the hardware might be integrated on the motherboard. Be prepared that they will recommend hardware upgrades!
