The TV Mini Series (2019) had a higher rating compared to the 2021 movie, in IMDB. I salute the character, Shiro Kakei on his passion to cook all those yummy meals - almost on daily basis - while having a full time professional career. Though this is just a TV character, surely there are real individuals out there that might do the same thing. Cooking, to me, is a big hassle and not forgetting the washing up after that! 😄 MikeC 1 Quote Click Here To Visit My Blog @ "The Blessed Life" *Let me live my life to be an instrument of 'Love', in how I speak and in how I see others* - May there be Love and Peace beyond all understanding -

I will wait for all the episodes to be released, before binge watching as dislike waiting for a new episode every week. Hopefully can time it to watch around end of this year when we are in festive + reflective/contemplative mood. btw, if u like this show, I would recommend Midnight Diner, another super popular show that introduces one dish every episode but filled with quirky characters and their stories too! Thanks for the recommendation, @MikeC. Upon checking it, Midnight Diner is TV overload for me - too many seasons/episodes. I usually prefer mini series. The thing that I like about 'What did you eat yesterday?' is in the relationship between Kakei Shiro and Yabuki Kenji. There is joy yet pain between them. It makes a relationship beautiful and how each of them learns to accept each other. Hopefully can time it to watch around end of this year when we are in festive + reflective/contemplative mood. btw, if u like this show, I would recommend Midnight Diner, another super popular show that introduces one dish every episode but filled with quirky characters and their stories too! I had been savouring this series for a while now after seeing @MikeC recommendation in this thread. I enjoyed it very much but there was something that bugged me much until the last 2 episodes. I felt that there was this lack of intimacy between Shiro-san and Kenji-san. I didn't read the manga and I dunno if it is the Japanese culture or purposely toned down for mainstream television consumption. I'm not just talking about the sexual kind but both physical and emotional intimacy between lovers in a relationship. I felt that there was virtually no physical interaction and every time Kenji-san comes home or wakes up in the morning...their interaction.....not very boyfriend or husband like. I was particularly disappointed to see Shiro-san's single bed when he was ill and there was a few scenes that Kenji-san came out of a bedroom that seems like a different bedroom from Shiro-san's. That day they both discovered they are both on leave, they chose to make crepes! 🙄 It seemed to me that they were rather brotherly flatmates and I'm not exactly convinced that they are lovers that were still in their early stage of living together. But, the last 2 episodes changed much for me. Upon reflection, their emotional journey had been subtly building up over the earlier episodes and that's why both the going home scene after new year's dinner with Shiro-san's family and the hair trimming scene were huge emotional payoffs for me as a viewer. So, in the spirit of food metaphor, this series to me is like a delicious premium Japanese cheesecake. Soft, delicate and comforting. ☺️ Not overly sweet, cheesy and jelak. (Well, that doesn't mean I dun enjoy the American ones too.) To the actor Kotaro Shiga San (Shiro-san's father for the majority of the earlier episodes), may you rest in peace 🙏. I miss cooking...sighz....

This thread has become Netflix chit-chat. In a way, it is good cos members will (roughly) get to know the gist of the show. Like @Salt&Pepper, I watched this show because of your post about it, @MikeC. Else, I would never knew of its showing. The food/cooking did not excite me much as I am not a foodie, per se. It was more the relationship. I was touched at how two adults were trying to keep the relationship going. If it is like Shiro San’s cooking, anyone who get a chance to taste it is damn fortunate 😜 When I moved back to Singapore to live with my parents, I no longer have dominion over the kitchen. Long story. I definitely not at the level of the character Shiro-san but I can relate the actor's portrayal of the concentration during preparation and cooking, especially the satisfying smile when making sure the taste comes out right. The next Netflix I'll be diving into is The Fall of the House of Usher.... Hmm.....seems like majority of the characters are queer!

I wanted to ration and watch the series slowly as content is drying out due to the prolonged writers’ strike but I can’t. Every time the “The Fall of the House of Usher” dropped at the end of each episode….I struggled not to start the next immediately. No… not cliffhangers but the dreadful curiosity how “the next one goes”. I have not read any of Edgar Allan Poe’s stories or poetry. To me, the genre of this series is not horror but Drama…tragic family drama….hauntingly tragic. The dialogue is wonderful and I sometimes feel as I was watching a long elaborate theatrical play. Poetic even. My favourite line “…there is no such thing as painkillers….” My problem with the series is that making so many characters queer is unnecessary as it has nothing to do with the storyline or character development. I feel like Netflix is trying to meet some quota of something. Edited October 17, 2023 by Salt&Pepper MikeC

gucici
Watched Risque business - japan. 1 of the season features Jav porn industry and Japan male top actor. The company has 70 males actors to 8,000 females actress. When the director say, "shoot now", he must be able to shoot it out on time. His aiming skill is top notch. One must be able to aim either in forehead or cheeka, not the eyes. Very interesting show.

I'm late to the party but recently just caught up to the latest episode. The author deliberately avoid display of affection in the manga (I don't see any so far) as well. I think in the interview she mentioned she wanted to focus on the day to day life of an average gay couple. I really like this refreshing take, it feels like chicken soup for the soul. Most LGBT shows always put overly dramatic or sexualised gay topics up front and center, it can be a bit exhausting. And also season 2 episode 5 was really touching. Just look at the youtube comments on the ending song. The actor portraying Shiro (Hidetoshi Nishijima) is really damm good in that episode as well Edited November 29, 2023 by kratos Salt&Pepper
