Guest Papa
My favourite of all homegrown crops. I love everything about them: the smell of the foliage, the little lobed leaves they kick out at the seedling stage and, of course, the amazing fruit. Do you have few tips and tricks to make it tastiest and make it better than any that money can buy?
Older4yngr
Buy a good cherry variety like "Gardener's Delight" if you can get it. Otherwise, with less than perfect tomatoes you can slow roast them for about half-an-hour in not too hot an oven, sprinkled with a little oil, salt and pepper and a very little sugar: all of which brings out the flavour beautifully. Guest sian
Finding the right seed is the starting point. Most commercial varieties you see at the markets are bred for looks/size/shelf life. Definitely not for taste. If you use seeds from those, not likely to become much tastier.
anxiousfriedtofu
Been usually cooking them with eggs and cutting them into wedges along the 'valleys'. That way the tomato holds in the juices and flavour within the 'seed segments'. Also prevents it from becoming mushy.
