You ask Lois first? Or the author better.

Gosh, whoever changed the topic title, please have the decency to at least state your name in the edit or if you prefer, be the topic starter.

leaving it as such made me look like that title was written by me, which is NOT.

the topic was changed to the wrong „ superman‘s son comes out as bi“.

Just for the record, it is not superman‘s son. It is the CURRENT superman.  Get your facts right if you want to correct someone. If you think i am wrong, check out the nyt and st articles quoted here.

Are you reading the same article as me? The st article mentioned it’s Superman Clark Kent’s son, Jonathan KENT. In the first paragraph

He seems to be doing it on purpose to intentionally provoke negative comments. Multiple posters have already tried to explain to him on Page One that Jonathan Kent might be the "current" Superman, but only people who still read comic books regularly would know that, and most adults on this website have no time to read comic books anymore. To most of the world, regardless of Jonathan Kent now "succeeding" his father, they will always think of the "real" Superman as Clark Kent, just as they thimk of Bruce Wayne as the "real" Batman, not Damian Wayne. Some people's egos are so big, unfortunately, that they are more concerned with being "technically right" than accommodating the thought processes of the vast majority of their readers.

It's quite sad in my opinion because he would actually gain a lot more all-around respect from BW's readers, in general, if he would simply put aside his bruised ego and overwhelming need to feel "correct" and just accept some constructive suggestions on how to avoid confusing the majority of people who will continue for at least another decade to automatically think of Clark Kent when they see the name Superman. That's just the way it is. Comic book character changes take a long time to sink into the pubic's consciousness. He (or DC Comics) doesn't have to like that, but it's a fact, and it needs to be understood.

From the nyt articled

The new Superman, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, is concerned about the environment, does not shy away from politics and will soon begin a romantic relationship with a male friend.“

Isn’t this indicate that it is the son of Superman who is a bi?

Superman's son is still called a superMan.

Point to note, Clark Kent is not gay though.

It's not even really accurate to describe Jon Kent as the "current" Superman because Clark Kent is also still active as Superman. It's kind of like Marvel having both Peter Parker and Miles Morales active as Spider-Man at the same time. DC and Marvel are both breaking one of the cardinal rules of marketing -- which is -- NEVER DILUTE YOUR BRAND!

My suspicion is that DC was also trying to grab shock headlines that say "Superman Comes Out As Bi" and then -- if the heat from religious groups and conservatives gets too hot -- point out that it's the SON of the "classic" Superman who is bi, and assure them that the hero they knew from childhood remains the same, basically having it both ways.

Trying to pass off Jon Kent as "Superman" while Clark Kent remains alive and active is a mistake. A character created 6 years ago simply can't surpass a character created 83 years ago that developed into an icon all around the world. Jon is still a teenager and should still be branded as the new "Superboy" (with Kon-El being given a different identity).

It would take generations for the general public to accept Jon Kent as Superman, Damian Wayne as Batman, or Connor Hawke as Green Arrow -- and their dads would need to be completely removed from comics -- which DC has no intention of doing. So they are really just creating unnecessary confusion among the general public (not ardent fans).

Why was Wally West accepted as Flash for more than 20 years? It's because Barry Allen was dead and Jay Garrick was sent into another dimension (and then semi-retired when he returned). Wally was legitimately seen as carrying on the legacy of Barry (and Jay) and allowed to create his own history. DC made a mistake "unkilling" Barry in my opinion.

Same situation with Marvel. Sam Wilson (Falcon) will never truly be accepted as Captain America, or Miles Morales as Spider-Man, unless Steve Rogers and Peter Parker are totally out of the picture. Two concurrently active characters sharing one code name does not work. This has been proven repeatedly over the course of comic book history.

The main exception was the Pre-1985 DC Multiverse, when it was easy to understand that the current characters live on Earth-One, the semi-retired World War II versions live on Earth-Two, the evil versions live on Earth-Three, and so on. Stupid executives too dumb to comprehend that idea took over, however, leading to the Crisis On Infinite Earths.

682601.jpg

DC never recovered from the Crisis because its central premise was to end the Multiverse, which immediately proved impossible, and their characters have been a mess ever since. What DC should have done in the Crisis was introduce new versions of their characters living on "Earth-D" for example, and after the Crisis, focus almost totally on Earth-D.

5158305.jpg

That would have given DC a blueprint to work with going foward -- 1935-1955 mostly took place on Earth-Two, 1955 to 1985 mostly took place on Earth-One, 1985 to 2010 mostly took place on Earth-D, and then in 2010 their 75th Anniversary Crisis should have shifted focus to a new generation based on Earth-Four, which would dominate until 2035.

All of that is water under the bridge, of course, and a tremendous missed opportunity for DC. I imagine there were likely some people there who made the same argument, about shifting to a new Earth after the 50th Anniversary Crisis, but they were simply ignored by the shortsighted executives who were too stubborn to understand the Multiverse.

Circling back to Jon Kent, taking that approach would have meant he never gets an undeserved opportunity to try in vain to take up his father Clark's mantle as Superman, since DC would shift focus to a new Earth and reinvigorate Clark's story every 25 years. Jon would just be known as "Superboy" and his bisexuality would barely stir up a yawn.

Why has nobody here, contributing to an Asian website, even mentioned the fact that Superman Junior's boyfriend is Asian? Think about the fact the next generation's greatest superhero is not only bisexual but also dating an Asian guy. That is totally awesome.
