Mediacorp Artists - News And Gossips 新传媒新闻和八卦 (Compiled)

I seriously think the money is the most distracting thing in the show. at $250,000 grand prize for the couple who walks away with it, I think he can kiss goodbye to working for the next 3 years even if he splits the money 50-50 with government taxes.

But so far there have been no male couples posing as friends entering the competition, only celebrities special, and ordinary straight male female pairing. maybe we might have a sportsmen/singapore calender guys featuring jason chee or Gerald Lim the model. it would make things saucier and nicer to watch on top of the prize.

Gosh, think you guys totally missed the point. The most distracting would have been Bryan Wong's English! He was totally out of touch in English, and was often struggling at providing some sort of a commentary on the contestant(s) in that one minute game time. Often, he said the trivialest of things and sometimes not even audible. It was a real pain watching him trying to be funny, encouraging, compere-stylo ... all at once in his half baked English. I rather listen to construction piling rumble!

My goodness.... I am ROTFL .... you really hit the nail on the head.  That fake accent is truly cringeworthy.  I am just wondering if there's really such a dearth of English speaking talents that they have to allow such crossovers.  Someone mentioned '8 days said he was a right fit for the show'.  If camp is what they are after, perhaps, but at least get it in the correct language please!

Honestly, I think Bryan Wong stays the same throughout.

Regardless of the show, he speaks and acts (cute) in the same way.

He is probably in his early 40s now but still wants to behave (at least on screen) like a kid.

You know come to think of it, wouldnt the Muttons (Justin Ang and Vernon) do a better job?

The other one I cannot tahan is Hossan Leong.

Too much drama and hand gestures and  really the celebrities are recycled in the recent season.

Can't they find enough "talents" in Mediacrap?

Nothing to do with the game itself but Bryan Wong seems hotter in this one.

Is it just me or is his bulge like really distracting :P

That's so true.

His pants look like it's gonna explode or atleast pop-out.

But if you just focus on his english then I guess it starts to get annoying at some point.

“I also have this strange habit of speaking English with an American, British or Australian accent, because I watch a lot of overseas shows at home and pick up whatever accent which sounds nice. So I had to be careful while hosting the show,” said Wong with a laugh.

Erm ok,... but none of the accent sound right. Mishmash accent is what bryan is doing LOR

Why is he so skinny...hes a SPG right ?...... is he sick ?

His accent is terrible , no unnatural, nothing compares to CNA Steve Lai or Timothy Go......what kind of talent Mediacorp have for that show...Total Flop

Brian Wong tried very hard to speak English. Acting "cute" is his forte because he is gay and it makes him popular and mostly influenced by Kym Ng in their earlier years now developed into "habbit". Eventually, you see Jack Neo and his gang bought into such "cute-ness" trying to gain popular points. Mark Lee was an obvious one to begin with.

However,  I have to agree that just because Brian Wong is multi-talented (from cooking to design...etc) doesn't mean he is suited to host English programme.  The only person whom can be fluently bi-lingual in Mediacorp is non other than Michelle Chong. The rest can step aside.

Hossen Leong is quite consistent in tone and gesture and he is an opened gay.  In private and on TV, that is how he behaved, so we can't fault his gayness and he is quite opened and un-shy about it.  Similarly for Kumar.  I like their courage, or their natural demeanur, unlike many gay who tried very hard to conceal themselves to blend into the straight world.  Fortunately, Media Corp continue to bring them back into the show regardless of their loose wrist and sissinesss.  In fact, I think Kumar is more suited to host outside the TV than inside it. The message of acceptance is there whether straight viewers like it or not.

So, let's not judge whether the person is gay or straight or how he behaved but rather whether he is talented in the eyes of the viewers.  I would prefer Brian wong to be more Singlish and than turn the show around instead.  Currently, I see him struggling to act  "formal" in the English show.  Something you don't see when he host the Chinese show.

My post this morning was not meant to be Bryan Wong-bashing nor to spark off a discussion on him being gay. But seriously, it's painfully sad to watch Bryan, well into his 40s, to perform so badly as a compere. Even if you put his bad English aside, which to me is indisputably bad, no questions asked; what's even more unacceptable is that he is trying too hard to be witty and not mindful of his excessive body language. For a compere of more than a decade of experience, his performance is still one dimensional, and he evidently can't shake off his City Beat persona. He fails to create a distinct compere personality for every show such that it becomes refreshing for viewers. This is a franchise game show show for heaven's sake, but he still employs the same cutesy antics of 摆家乐and城人杂志. One final piece of advice I must give Bryan: do not try so hard to be funny. If you don't have a funny bone, then quit it. It becomes painfully cringeful to watch him trying to employ low brow variety show humour in a obviously more sleek and branded show like A minute to win it. Sigh.

We should not single out one person to criticise. If you look at the bigger scheme of thing, which Mediacorp franchise show is successful? I see Singapore Idol a great failure too.   It is the gene thing, the TV is state controlled. We can't produce enough "Omp!!!" power, the actors/actress are far from desirable compared to Hong Kong talents, not to mention the limited and oft repeated soul. Bluntly, a recycled product with no new personalities. I also find Gurmit Singh and Shuhaimi Yusof getting stale and not funny at all but they will always be there for clueless reason.

InThailand, HK, Taiwan and China have multiple pools of human talent. Media cock  have been using recycled talents, moving fro one channel to another. No new blood at all to replaced aging OAKTRESS, how can media cock rejuvenate like HK/Taiwan and Thailand, nothing but antiques collectors here, whatever new shows they can get.

The roots of Mediacock failure are:

1)  Budget (you see recycle shows, programmes, movie and same people throughout the year)

2)  Copycat/non creativity  (could be fearful of public criticism especially from the conservative ones)

3)  Heavily regulated by MDA

4)  Internal Staffs/members are overly awarded (you see same persons getting award every year)

5)  No competition

Why is Chen Bi Feng, despite so many bad incidents  and infamous publicity, claimed mental problem , still allow in the TV shows etc ?

In overseas, one would have been disconnected from all medias. Look at Jaycee Chan ( Jacky Chan 's son) involved in drugs in China , removed and advertisement replaced within 24 hrs and Ko chen dong ( Taiwan ) , removed from all contracts.....are we not world class as claimed, we very no class.

Guest Super hate Bryan

Who is Bryan trying to kid?

As a chinese compere, he is just goofing around, often using the same old phrases and even tongue tied, struggling for words. It really happens on national TV! Needless to say as a English compere, he is no better than a JC student intern, and worst, with the same goofiness and mandarin inflections. No eye see!

But that's still not the scariest. The ultimate is when Bryan tries to career switch to a big time interior designer simply because he has been a compere for a few seasons of 摆家乐. If so, then all commentators of sports programmes can all be sportsmen and financial reporters can become Warren Buffet.

In a recent interview to talk about his new found career as the owner and chief designer of an ID firm, Bryan tries to pass himself off as Karl Lagerfield designing his own furniture. Please Bryan, you look and sound as unconvincing as you trying to mimic manliness.

Agree. Both are mature guys (gays), but one choose to act cute and one choose to act fashionista, I really no eye to see. :(

Look at the gay celebs overseas, so charming even women would fall for them.

I don't blame Mediacorp for the judgement failure of casting Bryan Wong in Minute to Win it. The TV station has a dearth of talents anyway.

However, I do blame Bryan Wong for consistently putting forth such grating performances. He should at least get his basics right. At the least, he should do some level of grammatical scripting (it's real pain to watch him ad lib), refrain from excessively acting cute (despite his age and his lack of humour), as well as making an attempt to be a more engaging host (have you seen how awkward he looks whenever he says, "you've got a minute to win it, good luck!" He sounds more lame and limp than a piano page turner.

It's all his fault. Period.

after chatting for a while, I had cam2cam with someone. We agreed not to show face. i cannot see his face at 1st, he got nice and smooth, and quite a huge one. but, when actions got hotter and the lens accidentally moved. i saw his face ! and he might not realize. I dared not tell him as I was afraid he might suddenly discontinue. That's the closer I got with a cute and handsome local actor.:thumb:

wah eh anyone know who the actor is?

That happened in 2011 .... During that time, local actors who can be considered cute and handsome were:

Julian Hee

Alvin Ng

Zhang Yao Dong

Romeo Tan, Edmund Tan just won the Star search.

Did I miss anyone else? Could be any 1 of them.

Bryan wong is one dimensional artiste (if I can even call him an artiste, that is). He derived his initial popularity from City Beat eons ago but he never seemed to grow out of it even two decades on. He still act cute, speaks broken English/mandarin, tries hard even in low brow humour .... with an unmistakable shade of his City Beat host character. The same can be said of Kym Ng and Sharon Au. They also never seemed to grow out City Beat, and still is lacking on their hosting. If you give them a script, they might do fine. But if you listen to them speak off the cuff, gosh, I rather listen to chalk harshly screeching on a surface. A few days ago, Sharon Au went on radio station 933 to plug StylexStyle, and she speaks really badly for an ex host. Worst, she still tries to effect low brow City Beat hosting humour, it was damn sad. And the worst is Kym Ng, wonder why anybody calls her 阿姐. Her command of the chinese language is at best, O levels. Till today, her comic timing is still off, often lapses in a struggle for words, and her raspy voice is often even incomprehensible and grating. If you watch Kym Ng's programmes 10 years ago and compare with her current ones: no difference. In fact, even more irritating cos you have ran out of patience with her.

Bryan,

You make up your freaking mind whether you want to pronounce "now" as "nell" or "nown"; and if your friggin lips want to pronounce "seconds" as "sec-kerns" or "sec-cans" and many many more other shizo pronunciations. In the heat of excitement, you just don't know how silly u sound.
