What's there to be sad, if anything, its more sad that those veterans who acted for 30-40 years have no chance of even getting nominated in the leading categories. Worse, some even waited 20 years just to win a supporting award

Jeanette Aw should be grateful to mediacock for not getting a nomination to compete with Rui En who is so good in Against The Tide.

Imagine graduating from top ten most popular actress and losing the best actress award this year.....i can imagine Jeanette Aw asking to be op out herself.

Queen Zoe is on the cover of 8 Days, she looks so glam, so elegant, so beautiful! She's really the No. 1 Ah Jie of Singapore!

Right, if she was scheming, she would have been even bigger than gong li and zhang ziyi!

Imo, artises who only manage to get AFA but not any best acting awards r nothing but hype.

On 2nd tot, it includes those who won once out of sympathy, consolation or political reason. The ones with substance r those who cliched 2 awards n above.

Who is the actor playing the blond hair notti rebel son in 118?  So cute and cool.  Has he acted in any other serials?  Any profile and info about him?

His name is Nick Teo 张鈞淯.

pull string is it, like that quan yi feng daughter

Julie Tan landed the role through her China management agency.

At least she managed to land a juicy supporting role alongside 安以轩 and 汪东城.

Zoe on the other hand can't even get any roles in China, because no directors or production houses want her.

According to the StarAwards website, they say

"A sample size of 1000 respondents, representative of the Singaporean population, was randomly selected by the market research company. These respondents received by mail a voting list withappended photos. This list contained the names of all MediaCorp artistes with a valid contract within the qualifying period of 1 January 2014 to 26 April 2015. The market research company then collated the score for each artiste via phone. This survey generates the nominee list of ‘Top 10 Most Popular Male/Female Artistes’"

Do u guys also think that 1000 respondents seem to be very little?

Maybe difficult to find more than 1,000 respondents who will be interested to vote.

Recently spotted local actor Ix Shen in a China made period drama 石敢當之雄峙天東.

But unfortunately, he had degenerated to a small bit player ( 跑龙套 ), donning different costumes playing all kinds of characters in the same drama.

Even the former Mainland actor 淳于珊珊 had a meaty co-starring role.

And he was the Star Search winner, such a sad state for him.

Back in the 1995 Star Search contest, Ix won but it was a huge surprise.

A chubbier Christopher Lee came in 2nd but was able to slim down and secured leading roles within the first 2 years.

Poor IX was relegated to villainous roles with little airtime.

His only claim for fame - probably that volleyball series with Tay Peng Hui.

Now he is probably an older man - are the muscles still there?

Breaking into the China market isnt all that easy - Fann plays 2nd fiddle to Fan Bing Bing.

That Ren Dai Dai role was, also, a villain...

Perhaps Ix should take a gamble .. be the 徐锦江 of Singapore.

HK markets still yearns for soft porn.

To be fair, anyone else would be a second fiddle to FBB. FBB is the top celebrity in the Chinese language world now, beating Jackie, Jet, Donnie, Andy, Gong Li, Ziyi etc.

If you cast Zoe and FBB in the same drama, Zoe won't even be fit to lick FBB's toes.

Saw Lao Zoe not too long ago at NTUC at orchid country club wearing a giant pair of sunglasses, look severely underweight and haggard and her maid was acting as her bodyguard, staring at anyone who look at her.

Indeed, Ix Shen the winner degenerate to a bit player while the runner up Christopher Lee went on to win best actor award in Taiwan and getting plum roles to play.

But then, except for a great physique, Ix Shen lacks height and do not have that X factor face and worse, really can't act to save his life.

Face it, Singapore-born actors and actress do not have the facial features and acting skills to cut it.  Throw in the poor spoken Mandarin, I really do not know how they can cast a Singaporean actor.

Someone once told me wickedly - that in Chinese period imperial drama, the Singaporean have such poor package that they cannot even qualify the role of the imperial maid-in-waiting or the guard. See Ix's story above.

That is why, Mediacorp is trying to weed out all foreign-born (PRC mainly) actors and actresses to be the 2nd fiddle so as to provide opportunity to the Singapore-born or Singapore-mandarin speaking actors.  Over the years, the lack of real competition resulted in what we see in Mediacorp production today.

Zoe as the Queen in a China period drama?  HAHAHAHA

She can't even qualify to be the 丫鬟!
