Guest Guest Posted July 13, 2015 Report Share Posted July 13, 2015 It is rather unfortunate that whether it is Zoe Tay or Huang Biren, no matter how one think of them as versatile, the fact is, the production of Mediacorp is shallow and is unable to lift them to newer heights. After all these years, although they have reached the age of being a veteran, they are unable to be effective and convincingly touching. Compared to say, the Korean production (which I am not a fan), but the acting skills of even the very young actors and actresses far surpass the veterans of Caldecott Hill. I suppose, this is the fate of a small country (with small production, of a smaller budget, for a smaller market of viewers).But what is most unpardonable is the spoken Mandarin of some of the actors/actresses. Until today, if one listen correctly, actors like Chen Han Wei and Rayson Tan, for example, still cannot get their hanyu pinyin correct, even after so many years.Don't say Singaporeans, even imported Taiwanese host like Vivian lai can't even get it right Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

While Rui En and Jeanette Aw may have more fervent fans, they can't hold a candle to the 2 seasoned actresses in acting skills. In particular, Zoe Tay is compelling as the variety head Zhou Weiyun - her heartfelt portrayal should have ensured her at least a nomination in the last Star Awards. Nonetheless, she will definitely continue to put in a shining performance worthy of her title as Queen of Caldecott Hill. It's been so many years, yet not even Fann Wong could dethrone her. Fann smartly rejected the role, leaving the producers scrambling to re-cast Chen Liping in the stronger role of Yao-Zhu Kangli.Zoe was saddled with this dud role and she was clearly the weakest link of the entire drama, with her lacklustre portrayal and boring storyline. Now she's reprising her damaged role and some delusional fans say she's going to be the star of the drama? Seriously?With substance actresses like Huang Biren and Taiwan's Chen Mei Feng, as well as hot stars Jeanette Aw and Rui En, Zoe Tay will be lost in the dust.
