She was constantly in conflict with her father, Japanese actor Mako-something. The role is quite a stretch and is very multi-layers (of emotion). Worst, I believe it was shot in Hi-Def and the actors had little or no make-up at all. The clothes were earthly-toned and although it was shot entirely in Singapore, the main cast did not utter a single word of Singlish but normal everyday's English used by the locals. (which means Mark Lee cannot get a role at all). Overall, it was an indie movie and shots stay for quite a few more seconds (no editing to show the sunken feelings)... Can a Mandarin spouting Teochew woman from some pig farms handle this role? I'm afraid not. Fann/Aileen then were too pretty and Xiang Yun (if you take 10 years away when she was in her 30s) may stand a remote chance. She was 45 in 2005, same age as me.
