Haha I admit I like Zoe more to Fann, but not because of that just that I really think she's really straight faced regardless which emotion she's supposed to act in...

Not like Zoe is any better, she had this perpetual worried look in 阿娣. Funny thing is, it was also reported in today's evening paper lol.

She's worried about something else.

"Can they see my wrinkles??"

"Did they notice my sagging tits??"

"Do I look like an aunty or grandma??"

Read the latest xinmsn article on the hits and misses of Devotion.

WXR was a hit while Zoe Tay was a miss.

Once again they tried too hard to revive the old fossil.

As though the whole drama evolves around Zoe Tay only, those back to the future scene with her acting as 20 years old is just nauseous. And what kind of unrealistic picture are they trying to paint with this Ah Di character, nice until dumb??

If not for WXR the show will go down record as another major flop. Don't try to deny this, her 3 endorsement at her door step can't be wrong.

Zoe Tay, on the other hand, thanks for trying, this is Goodbye. :yuk:

(Wang Xinru is the next Shu Qi, the moment she appears, her star appeal eclipses the rest of the cast including MediaCorp's No. 1 Ah Jie Zoe Tay.)

Zoe Tay this kind of ridiculous standard should go back to acting school if she wants to continue acting. She can No. 1 all she wants when she's just a clown who can't make people laugh. She is the type, when she appear, people will reach for the remote to change channel or go for a pee break.

Whether its Zoe, Fann or WXR, the fact is that the market for Mediacorp or Spore is simply very small. No matter how good or talented one is, one canot go very far with the kind of TV series and director/production team we have in Spore. Unless one ventures out into bigger markets like Fann (whether she is good or popular or not is immaterial, the least is that she can make it bigger than if she had stayed on only locally).

A 2nd grade HK TVB actress can easily earn $10+k per episode if she acts in a China serial. The serial need not be a success, but the market in CHina is just big enough to sustain that kind of pay.

The point is, even if the entire Spore (or parts of M'sia) likes a certain Spore actress very much, she is unlikely to go far and make it big in small markets like Spore with Mediacorp.

Once upon a time, a young actress got to know a rich married tycoon.

The tycoon showered her with various gifts including a car, hotel stays and various boutique dresses.

One day, the actress walked into a boutique owned by the tycoon's wife. The actress picked out a few clothes and asked the staff to charge them to the tycoon's account.

The boutique staff notified the tycoon's wife.

The wife came storming in furiously into the boutique and gave the actress a tight slap.

Since then, the actress was never seen within the vicinity.

Tay became a model at the age of sixteen. She was first groomed at IMP International and by David Gan in 1986. During her modeling stint, she became the 1987 Model of the Year. In 1988, she joined the first biennial talent-search competition, Star Search which was organised by Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (now MediaCorp) and emerged as the first Star Search champion.

Tay did not enjoy acting in the early part of her career, desiring to become a production assistant instead.[4] But in 1991, she was given a role in Crime and Passion as a simple village girl who was torn between two men. It was through this role that she found herself appreciating the life of an actress. Her first television serial was My Fair Ladies, broadcast in 1988, in which she appeared with other winners from Star Search, Jazreel Low and Aileen Tan.

Tay played many characters in several period and contemporary dramas. In 1990, she became the first local star to be featured in Lux commercials. After being the Lux girl, further product endorsements came to her, making her a favorite star in Singapore's entertainment industry.

Her breakthrough came in 1991 when she was cast as a materialistic and malicious woman in the television series Pretty Faces. She set a record when over a million viewers tuning in for the episode where her character, Bobo, was raped. The role won her many accolades and critical compliments. It was nominated as one of the most memorable roles in the Star Awards in 2003.

In 1993 Tay performed with Li Nanxing in The Unbeatables, a serial that focused on gambling. At her peak, there was widespread agreement in the media industry that putting Zoe Tay's picture on the cover would revive the plummeting sales of any magazine.[3]

Tay has maintained a consistent placement among the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes in the annual Star Awards, an award ceremony for TV personalities, since its inception in 1994. She also clinched the Best Actress Award in Star Awards 1996 for her performance in Golden Pillow. Her portrayal of a modern career woman in Home Affairs also earned her a nomination for Best Leading Actress at the Asian Television Awards 2000.

In the 1998 Star Awards, she was awarded the Special Achievement Award for her illustrious career and contribution to the local media scene for the past 10 years. She gave an emotional speech, in which she wept when she thanked her father who had just died not long before the ceremony. In the same year, she released her first solo album to commemorate her 10th year in show business.

Tay was voted in the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artists for the tenth consecutive year in 2003. Hence, in the 2004 Star Awards, she was awarded the All Time Favourite Artiste, together with Li Nanxing and Chew Chor Meng. This award was awarded to artistes who have been able to get into the Top 10 most popular actress/actors for 10 times. Tay is the first actress to achieve this prestigious award.

Tay is also the first local female artist to launch a coffee table book, Zoe's Pictorial, in 1995, which portrayed her in a variety of poses, including sexy, demurely alluring, or glamorous and stylish.

Great pains to phrase it such in way so as to glorify her??

From 1982 to 2007 (25 years).

There were 9 dramas with the highest viewership.

Out of the 9, 5 of them had Aunty Zoe.

Out of the 5 with Aunty Zoe, how many of them are from the recent 10 years?

If it's Top 9 dramas of the past 10 years from 1997 to 2007, will Aunty Zoe be in the list at all?

All she had was past glory and nothing subsequently, if she were good, she would be consistently in the list for 25 years. It's like remembering Audrey Hepburn for the last 70 years.

Any of these worthy mention??

1997: My Wife, Your Wife, Their Wives (101老婆之老婆柠檬茶)

1997: Rising Expectations Yu-Mei (长河)

1998: The Return of the Condor Heroes Lu Er-Niang (神雕侠侣)

That article is taken from Wikipedia and last I checked, it was flagged for unencyclopedic listings.

Statistics can be presented in different ways to reach different conclusions, depending on the specific agenda at hand. Attributing viewership to one actor/actress is ridiculous. That said, if all shows starring one actress have consistently underperformed, then you can discern a long-term trend for that actress.

That wiki article as well as her, ALL "unencyclopedic"

Exactly my point, it's ridiculous to attribute viewership all to the credit of one single lead when the show is a success. Along the same line, you can't stop people from attribute the same LACK OF viewership to the same actress subsequently when the show tanks since that's how her success is determined in the first place.

You're right. Technically it's correct that Zoe had 5 shows in the top 9 list of most-watched dramas in 25 years (from 1982 to 2007). However, if you probe deeper, you'll find that NONE of these 5 shows of hers was in the past decade since 2000. It's misleading to use the statistics to say that because she had 5 out of 9 most-watched shows, she is still popular today. It also erroneously assumes that Zoe is the one and only reason why the 5 shows performed well.

The big debate over parent volunteers

Actress Zoey Tay volunteers to work for free at Nanyang Primary School

By Seah Chiang Nee

TV actress Zoe Tay, like a US investment billionaire before her, has joined a growing trend in Singapore's high pressure education system.

The actress volunteered to work without pay at the elite Nanyang Primary School to improve her son's chances of being admitted there in two years' time.

The demand for a good primary school, regarded as a crucial start in life here, has soared since the government encouraged the intake of thousands of bright students from abroad.

In 2009, US investment billionaire Jim Rogers, who took up Singapore citizenship, and his wife also performed more than 40 hours of volunteer work at Nanyang Primary.

Today, their 11-year-old daughter Happy is getting the bilingual education that her parents had intended.

This practice has become more widespread in recent years as competition for admission into elite schools intensified during registration of Primary One pupils.

Singaporean parents are prepared to make sacrifices to get their kids into a premium primary school, which they consider as winning half the academic battle.

As a result, top institutions are swamped with applications every year.

A practice that promotes elitism?

Even as the practice spreads, the concept of parent volunteers is under attack for promoting elitism in Singapore society and widening the gap between the rich and the poor.

An online survey which asked whether schools should do away with the scheme attracted an almost unanimous "yes".

There are benefits for everyone to get parents involved in the activities of their children's schools, according to ministry officials.

The broad complaint is, however, that it is helping to put the top primary schools further out of reach of poorer families, at least during registration.

At the same time it smacks of corruption; instead of paying money for a school place, parents are paying in service, said a social studies student.

"The scheme works in favour of the well-heeled parents who have the time and qualifications to do it," she said.

"What happens to the ill-educated and poorer parents who are unable to do so?"

In fact, then Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, in a visit to a premium girls' school last November, admitted that the primary school admission system was not meritocratic, as a child's family background played a part.

Whether a child went into a good school was based on the social class of the parents, Lee had said.

"So it's not so meritocratic. That's inevitable in any society."

The aim, he said, was to eventually balance things out at Primary Six.

"That's what we're aiming to do: regardless of who your father or mother is or was, we go by your performance."

Obsession with the paper chase

The preoccupation with the paper chase is a national trait. During recessions, the government often increased the education budget rather than reduce it.

At home, families spend tens of thousands of dollars a year for special tuition or extra classes for their children.

The word tuition is probably the first word a Singaporean kid hears as soon as he or she learns to walk.

And as he grows up, it seldom leaves him; even undergraduates here get tuition.

It is not surprising to see long lines of parents huddling overnight outside popular tuition centres, waiting to enrol their children when the centres open.

With this frenetic local preoccupation and tens of thousands of foreign children coming here to study, allocation of places has become a hot potato.

The education ministry has put in place a registration system giving priority to Singaporeans and PRs, with the first option being given to children of former students.

The second is reserved for families who live within 1km of the school.

Next is given to members of an association or a religious group, followed by community grassroots workers.

And if there are too many applicants, the parent volunteers or PVs are given preference but without guarantee.

Parents face their own test

In many cases, supply so overwhelms demand that parents who applied had to be interviewed and only a fraction are chosen.

In one school, only 44 were given the chance out of hundreds who applied last year.

"It has become laughable having parents anxiously trying to pass a test, something the kids do," said a private tutor.

"At certain times you can encounter groans and smiles from these grown-ups while their children run around oblivious to it all," he added.

The number of PVs has doubled in recent years, partly as a result of increased immigration.

Most PVs are wives of Singaporeans (now increasingly expatriates), some of whom have taken time off from their jobs to fulfil the role.

Some parents are surgeons, lawyers and corporate high-fliers with highly impressive application forms.

"A few submitted pages and pages of their achievements which were mostly a waste since, as a rule, parental qualifications do not count," a school official said.

Most volunteer work entails reading to pupils, helping to re-organise library books or, as in the case of actress Zoe Tay, it may relate to one's skills or profession.

School authorities say it is the parents' commitment to the school that is often decisive, including the number of volunteer hours.

Forty hours is the minimum, but the popular ones fix it at 80 hours.

One kiasu (a Hokkien term meaning 'afraid to lose') parent is said to have clocked in a staggering 600 hours, or more than four months' full-time work.

With pressures of life so pressing, I wonder how it is affecting young Singaporeans' enthusiasm to marry let alone produce babies.

http://news.insing.com/tabloid/plastic-surgeons-rebuke-zoe-tay/id-4be03d00

Zoe has been rebuked by plastic surgeons for saying there are toxins involved in plastic surgery.

Zoe, 43, recently responded to comments on her looking old on TV. Viewers had complained that her wrinkles were visible in the drama "Ah Di".

In response, Zoe said that she would rather be criticised than go for plastic surgery to look younger. She insists that she is maintaining and taking good care of her looks and there is no need for her to harm her body through plastic surgery as it is full of toxins.

Local plastic surgeons don't agree. In addition, they feel that Zoe is misleading the public with her words.

This is just the latest boo-boo of hers in a long string of boo-boos since 1998.

By her careless and irresponsible remarks, she is breaking the rice bowl of all plastic surgeons in Singapore, no wonder they had to issue a statement jointly to refute her thoughtless words.

It's okay if she wants to remain wrinkled, it's her personal choice. However, she should not break the rice bowl of others..

She says she's maintaining her body naturally. Then what about the Extrim X pills she endorsed?

From http://www.lifepharm.com/prod_extrimX.html:

ExtrimX is a clinically formulated maximum-strength weight control supplement that can help overweight people lose weight and keep it off. ExtrimX specifically targets “difficult-to-lose” weight problems that could include baby fat, post-partum weight gain as well as “chronic” fats. Studies have shown that besides efficiently targeting waistline reduction, ExtrimX has also shown positive effects on the neck, arms, hip and thigh circumferences, making it the most comprehensive weight loss solution. ExtrimX works as a Fat Absorption Inhibitor, Metabolic Enhancer and Carbohydrate Blocker.

The truth from http://www.dietspotlight.com/extrim-x-review

A list of ingredients was not located while researching Extrim X. Because of this, other sources were checked to see if the ingredients could be determined, but those results were also negative. There are reasons that it is helpful to know the ingredients. If the ingredients are available it makes it easier for the consumer to determine whether or not they have any allergies or sensitivities to the product. Other reasons for researching the ingredients may include revealing potential side effects, determining the products overall effectiveness, to enable the consumer to check for drug interactions, or to check for anything that may interfere with certain health problems. Without a list of the ingredients it is very hard to provide the potential consumer with accurate information in any of these areas.

It is difficult to say whether or not Extrim X is effective or safe due to the complete lack of information that is available at this time. Although there are claims that it includes a clinically proven formula, that does not mean that Extrim X is a product that is right for everyone. Without the ingredients, the consumer will not know what is contained in the product until after it is purchased. This may be okay for people that do not have any known allergies, health problems, or sensitivities to certain ingredients, but it may not be safe for people the people that do.

Do u know her?

Is she an actress?

If the answers are no, I dont see the need for u to be discussing her as she is not subject to public discussion.

PS: IMHO, there's no need to resort to personal level.

Totally agree with what the above forumer said.

Some double standards she has indeed.

This big mouth aunty always talk as if she's some kind of authority or her morals very high like that.

Truth is, she knows better it's too late for botox now, that's why she's spewing such crap. Everyone has seen what a piece of worn out leather she is on HDTV, it will only get worse as she ages.

If someone were to pay her 7 figures to become the spokesperson for BOTOX.

This immoral woman would waste no time appearing in a commercial with 100 syringe filled with botox stuck on her face, singing praises for botox like she did for her slimming pills.

BOTOX NOW!! :thumb:

Ptui!

Actually, it's not the first time she said she wouldn't go for Botox.

During the Ultimatum HD wrinkles saga 2 years back, she also said the same thing about botox being harmful.

At that time the medical community just let the issue slide, prob cos it was an isolated incident.

But she's now repeating the same falsehood, so the doctors prob felt they had to voice out to prevent her from misleading more people.

Guest I'll never b famous

All these talk about Zoe n fann.

It's true Zoe only looks good on photoshopped magazine covers n is so unworthy of a sophisticated popular female celebrity she thinks she is.

But the saddest part? All these talk about her n she's even the slightest bit aware of u girls' existence.

The old mangrove swamp stil however gets to hang out with locally famous n public personalities n attend high society event I presume.

Meanwhile the rest of us Zoe haters can only watch in the sidelines screaming it's not fair! It's not fair in our little girls' hearts.

Guest don't understand

You Zoe Tay Haters and Fann Wong Haters, all made yourself like those aunties cat-fighting unnecessarily in here and had brought shame - like petty women - to yourself. Guess what, no matter who's good who's bad, the sun still rise the next morning and set in the evening.

There are more things to show concerns and need your contribution -- than quarreling over such issue. funny lot. :yuk: :yuk:

well i dont think that there is anything majorly wrong about Zoe Tay. If you were to comment on her wrinkles and how old she looks now, fine. However you do have to take into consideration her age, she is no longer the young feisty bobo you saw decades ago. Whats wrong with trying to evolve from screen sex goddess to screen dame? As for her acting, we all know she isn't exactly Meryl Streep-ish but you have to admit that she was never hailed as the BEST ACTRESS (that goes to Huang Biren,Ivy Lee etc) but as the ah jie. to be a ah jie doesnt need acting talent/skills but star power and judging from the hoo hahs she achieved in the past years you gotta admit she is a bloody head turner.

It's OK to look old.

It's NOT OK to go onto mag covers and endorsements with Photoshopped pics to deceive the public that she's still wrinkle-free.

Who is she trying to kid?
