Some have made it, but most would fail. Thus is the probability of success for those who wants to try.But for those who remain in Mediacorp, with a lack of good productions, with a lack of good exchanges with truly experienced and skilled actors/actresses, with a lack of good directors, producers and screenwriters, it is difficult for any young and new actor to grow professionally.Look at long-time actors like Zheng Geping, Terence Cao, Chen LiPing, Chen Hanwei, they call themselves veterans, but really, if you observe carefully, their acting skills have not changed nor improved much over the years. They are just being 'comfortable' doing their roles, and mediocre at best. Afterall, many of the fellow new actors/actresses are worse with lesser 'experience' than them. We have all watched HK serials. We have all watched Korean serials. We all know that the level of acting and quality of our local production is far far inferior than those. Even with the deterioration of the HK serials (due to exodus of many backstage talents/actors to China), the quality of the HK shows are still better than Mediacorp's. I am not putting down our local productions. There is something very wrong with our local entertainment circuit.Like some of my HK friends have put it, "It is very difficult to imagine that for such an economically advanced country, Spore has one of the most fxxd-up TV programmes around".If we take the criticizm positively, there is much that our TV station can learn - to start with, learn to accept the inperfections of our society -there are adultery, teenage sex & pregnancy, homosexualism, etc. If the theme is always kept to the fairy tale-wholesome-family-centric storyline, I do not see how our shows can register great viewership , unless if the station keeps all the prime time, and surpress all the really good shows to strange hours, or even not showing them at all. If we take the criticizm positively, there is much that our TV station can learn - to start with, learn to accept the inperfections of our society -there are adultery, teenage sex & pregnancy, homosexualism, etc. If the theme is always kept to the fairy tale-wholesome-family-centric storyline, I do not see how our shows can register great viewership , unless if the station keeps all the prime time, and surpress all the really good shows to strange hours, or even not showing them at all. Adultery storylines are already quite commonplace in local dramas (e.g. Guo Liang in The Dream Makers). I would like see them tackle more controversial themes, but controversial themes don't necessarily lead to higher ratings. Look at HK dramas -- a drama that tries to push the boundaries like When Heaven Burns gets low ratings. Master of Play, a drama with dark themes featuring Moses Chan as a serial killer, also got low ratings. The successful/popular dramas in recent years like Heart of Greed and Moonlight Resonance are basically family dramas, first wife vs. second wife, fighting over family business, etc. And their highest rated drama of 2013 is Triumph in the Skies 2 which is basically love triangles with overseas scenery. Not only are our actors and actresses ALL of the same acting, the storylines are equally bad. The ONLY country where their dram serials' storylines suck worst than us is probably Taiwan - their acting and stories are soooooo damn sucky that they become good. Something Mediacrap/ Mediacock hasn't achieved or attained yet. Watch Hongkong and Korea dramas and stick to them lah. Why waste so much time watching, and all the more 'ANALysing' them? I bet those who enjoy our local drama serials probably enjoyed the New Year's Celebration too, with the cartoonistic Wang Lee Hon and Zoe Tay and company walking the red carpet.
