What a waste.. But I think this year's Show 1 is quite enjoyable, it's an improvement over some of the previous Show 1's. Ran quite smoothly, minimal dead air, presenters had good chemistry, wasn't trying too hard to be serious. The singing part was pitchy though, lol. Happy they gave the Rocket Award to Priscelia Chan instead of using it to promote some newbie. But quite surprised since previous years they gave to younger artistes. They created it the same year they split the awards show into Show 1 and Show 2, I suspect probably just so they can say Show 1 has some heavyweight award given out, otherwise it's just the online fan polls and the backstage crew. The past winners are Elvin Ng, Pornsak, Desmond Tan and Romeo Tan. Elvin and Pornsak already had a few years' experience at the time they won. But in the case of Desmond and Romeo they were relatively new and the award seemed more to signify that the company was going to promote/groom them heavily to take on lead roles. Watching this starawards show does not mean we dont watch other tv shows outside Singapore...But if you dont watch mediacorp shows, are u restricted yourself in a box? Agreed. Watching/supporting local shows and feeling that local TV is in dire need of improvement are not mutually exclusive. Also if you watch broadly (both local and foreign productions) the more you have a sense of what's good, what's bad, and what's simply a matter of taste/style.
