Its not shortage of food, but from sustainability angle its promoted since the class insecta has largest diversity (i think more than all othe put together), are available in most climates, and can produce enuff without using unsustainable farming practices.

That said a large percentages of people now days find the idea unpalatable , so thats one big challenge.

Yuck!!!   Insect gave me the creep.  They had many scales and legs and often dwelt in dark, sewage-filled areas or dined on carcasses.  The moment you bite into them, I have a sneaking suspicion that they will sound like crackers, spew forth blue or green liquids, taste like anything bitter but delectable, and have more slimy intestines than meat.
Gross!!!

There are enough protein-rich foods in the ocean to go around. Why is it necessary to introduce something unusual?

Don't you know about the phenomenon of over-fishing, causing the catches all over the world to be reduced significantly, because there aren't enough fish/shellfish/crustaceans?

With the population of the world still rising, there is a need to diversify food sources. You might find insects as food off-putting, but this is just a matter of your own perspective. Many cultures in the world eat insects of various forms, including in China, Japan, and many parts of Asia.

Here in the US they could become popular if they are offered fried and with some ketchup.

It’s an alternative source of protein. Food shortage in this world. In short, our Earth is overpopulated!

All the animals we raise for food need to be fed too.  The cows need pastures to feed, the horses need hey, the chicken corn, the farmed fish get some organic junk.  What will we feed the insects?

Any "substantiation" here? Perhaps you can start living on some of your own bullshit here, just to help with your supposed situation of "the catches all over the world ..reduced significantly, because there aren't enough fish/shellfish/crustaceans", especially when you are piling so much of them around here on BW.

By pollinating crops to boost the production of more edible fruits and plants for humans, insects play a crucial role in the healthy operation of the global eco-system.
You are damaging the environment and destory the climate if you eat them.

America fed on other nations' suffering.  It won't ever become so hungry that it would need to consume insects or anything else.

I believe the insects sold for consumption are farm raised.  As for silkworms, they should be the by-product of sericulture.

I do agree that insects in the wild has a role to play in pollination and in the food chain, so farm raised insects should not have an effect on the natural world.

Errr... They are talking about farming insects for food, not catching wild insects for food here... Please don't confuse the two.

Yucks there is so much other than food that you can enjoyed as our upbringing not those from primitive diet kind of DNA.

And so, the DNA of rice is not primitive? Or that of wheat? Or many vegetables and fruit? If that is the case, are you are cannibal? Since humans are very "advanced" in DNA?

Actually, food scarcity is a real issue in the world, and not just the sustainability of farming insects. If you look at global fish stocks, they have been on the decline for many years, and many fish species are severely impacted and threatened with extinction.

We might not really feel it in Singapore, because we are comparatively rich, and able to pay the premium prices. Pity those in the poorer nations that really struggle to feed themselves. Many have not choice in what they eat, and will eat anything that provides them with sustenance. Yes, hunger and malnutrition are still problems in the world today, and the situation has been compounded by climate change, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in the Ukraine.
