Colleague borrow money

My colleague borrow money from me during covid times. The first year he return 1 fourth money to me. After 2-3 years, this year I asked him to return money to me. The balance. But he told me recently that his uob account got scammed and lost all his bonus and salary. He said police called him that his account got hacked and clicked the link they sent him. He said he reported to police at clementi.

I said can I have a look at the whatapps msg they sent him? He said he deleted all. I said then how they are going to trace the scammer. He said he scared the contact will trace him again.

He asked me to borrow him money to tide over this month. I said I have no money. I asked him to tell supervisor maybe he can help. But he said he scared supervisor will angry or cant help much.

I feel like why the moment i asked him to return money and he got scammed so coincidence?

Colleagues are scum bag.

When they approached, i just flip the question back at them.

They ask can borrow 500.

I replied bro I was just about to ask you to lend me 1k.

Double their amount.

On good days colleagues are already a leech and thorn in the ass.

You think ill help colleague? I rather help stranger or scammer

I am not sure whether is he really lying. But I can wait another year or two to ask him again after he get his bonus. See whether got any other excuses next time. But definitely I will not lend him any money already. That'd why I use supervisor name to ask him to ask supervisor for help also.

But I believe what comes ard goes ard.

Ask him to pay back with sex if hot ah?

Later I will be in hot water. Cannot get back money. Reputation gone. His fault later become my fault. If I really wanted sex so bad can get money boy. Cheaper also i think. Dont shit where we eat.

Just wanted to know whether is he lying. But how to check. Ask his police report statement. He should have 1 copy right?

If wanted to lie might as well said family prblm. If use scam sure ppl can check, right? I need to find a way to ask for it without sounding bad.

Just weird. What a coincidence. When promised this month return, this month kena scammed.

Just learnt from my other colleague, that this guy's story about being scammed could be a made up one. Some of his story copied from the other colleague. My other colleague also being asked to lend him money. And also shamelessly asked"give me 100 dollar, I return later" kind of attitude. And always use manipulation like you must support me as a friend n etc. Wow heard alot of story about him from another one today.

Aiyoh, wait if colleague is sly fox , then have sex with u in lieu of paying back loan .

Then you cancel loan. Then he make police report about you,  that you force him to have gay sex because he owes you money .

And that you hounded and harrassed him, until he gave in out of fear for his life, his family's safety and his job.

When this police case goes to court, you the lender will be the loser.

1st ly , you lose the money you loan him.

2ndly , he has all the evidence on whatsapp exchange,  police n court evidence.

3rdly , you will lose your job and reputation u worked 7 years or 10 years for yo climb to this present position, and your colleague will come out smelling like fresh roses and as you go to jail , he will gloat and thumb his nose at you ,  dai sei in Cantonese.

Next time , any colleague wants to borrow money personal loan,  insists on iron clad , black and white paper I.O.U  with two witnesess , and sign on I.O.U  spelling out return terms and date , and since you dont charge interest , the least he could do is sign the promisory note  I.O.U.

NO I.O.U.  no loan money out simple.

Say you have a cancer stricken grandmother and autistic brother to support if u dont want to lend out money.

Colleagues are colleagues, ask him to seek MP help.

Best is don't lend money to anyone, esp it is just a colleague. Lending money always can ruin a relationship between people.

Is true but always soft heart. If the person keeps doing whatever he is doing that kept him in debt, sooner or later he will land in really big problem. The version of story btw ppl he asked to borrow money is different. He really sounds desperate. We have helped before. If he did not stop what he is doing, we cant really help anymore. Is like Ada Choi's mother keeps on gambling and owe so many debts. So many times. Until Ada has to cut the tie so that loanshark dont come to her.

I had 2 similar encounters... one didn't pay back a cent 👎 and the other is still repaying me $50 every month 👍

Without proof, am afraid you just have to keep pestering her to repay you and it don't have to be in one lump sum. All the best 🙏

A person who changes mobile no. regularly is a person that cannot be trusted.

What happened between you and your friend is between you and your friend, reporting it to her company won't help you.

You can however tell her that you will go to court to small claim her, you will let the court decide.

If she is unable to pay, she might be made a bankrupt.

And as a bankrupt, she will have many restriction. And she need to declare to her company of her financial status.

With or without IOU, as long as you have other supporting documents to proof that you had indeed pass the money to her, it can still be claimed.

Alternatively, you might want to seek advise with a lawyer if it is worth while taking action for a few thousands dollars.

I concur.  No proof, no recourse.

The only thing left to do is to let go, accept the loss and treat the loss as an act of charity.
