You will know the answer once you are happy.  We are not here to make you happy by giving you the answer.

I have thought of this for all my life since I struggle with happiness.

I like to be alone but I'm lonely.

I hate being around people but I wished there is someone special for me.

I wished I earned more but I don't want to work more.

I'm tired of shit at work but I'm bored when there is nothing to do.

Eventually I just realised that I'm most happy.... When I see other suffer just like me.

Yep. I'm happy to see people getting laid off from tech, burnt by crypto, burdened by inflation. Yep. Overworked. Nice.

I get pleasure from knowing that this eternal feeling I struggle with daily is inflicted onto others.

Muahahahaha.

Such a nice warm feeling

You should feel happy,  because you know what makes you unhappy:  it is YOU.

The solution is therefore straightforward.  It is in changing your way of thinking.  No need to try to change the world around you.  Fortunately there is a huge Internet. Where you can do your research,  consult with others, learn psychology and become your own patient.   Then, with a positive attitude,  get rid of your hang ups and cultivate satisfaction, success.

I will do nothing. Haha.

Cause you have to do what is right for you to seek your own happiness.

Look at the struggles the older generations have to go through and the young generations don't even care. Flaunt their sexuality like it's a god given right.

Back then, you can lose your job. You can get killed. Now everyone just want to show their gayness online for money.

Including those supposedly straight one who can get married, have kids and divorce.

Can you imagine his daughter growing up and have her classmates share her dad's gay porn around..

Have you thought about getting acquainted with Buddhism?   You can change so much now, without having to wait for the next life...

Nah...it is all in the mind.  I have seen Buddhist people fighting and quarreling over the most trivial matters.  If Buddhism makes u happy, I question what makes u so unhappy outside of it.

Who are your "Buddhist people" ??   People who fight and quarrel over the most trivial matters are not following the Buddhist philosophy.

It is easy to be philosophical - Buddhist or not.  When human are put to the test, they run in the opposite direction.

Guest Coin Flipper

I wonder, who is the most happiest person.

1)  People surrounded with money

2)  People surrounded with love

If the above is akin to two faces of a coin, which one would you hope your coin would face if you flip it?   Reason I chose coin as example because it is quite rare for the coin to stand neutral when it landed on hard surfaces and you have no excuse to say you want both.

I honestly ask myself this question everyday and I don't know the answer.

The best answer I can give is "things that don't make me mad are things that make me happy I guess?"

Thinking about it again...  my happiness is a FACT that I don't need to justify.  Am I happy because I am NOT unhappy?   Or is it a result of a chemistry in my brain?  I am giving up on the thoughts that I am happy because of THIS or THAT.   Because I have the means to get THIS or THAT,  yet I am not pursuing, not going after THIS or THAT.  I am happy without the many THIS and THAT,  and I am satisfied this way.

You must be still young.  Because as we age,  the ability to get hard becomes less and less a necessity for happiness.

If rude people don't become aggressive and threaten you physically, there is no reason to give up happiness for them.  Their rudeness is THEIR problem.  And if they are threatening,  practicing a martial art can give you much satisfaction.

I'm in my early 30s. Went through numerous ups and downs in my life and at the current stage of life, some things that might seem simple to others is enough to make me genuinely happy:

  1. Continued being employed, doing something that I am somewhat passionate about, when rounds and rounds of layoffs are happening outside.
  2. Seeing my friends and family members taking good care of themselves and are in good health.

Can't really ask for anything else :)

In your early 30s?   It implies that there is yet a long way to go. When you get to your mid-40s or early-50s, you'll have an even more profound life perspective. Society's acceptance of you will be different than it was in your early 30s; loneliness will set in; physical aging will become more noticeable; you will count every penny in your wallet; the conditions of your friends and family will change; and you will become more reserved and less gregarious. You longed for tranquility and a less demanding atmosphere, which translates to less demanding work. and maybe,  not in the mood to return to the rat races at all, feeling tired of life, counted each calm day as a blessing and took each step more cautiously than ever  And then in a flash, like a change of seasons, you realised your journey is approaching close to 70 which left very little room for to manuveur far and beyond that inevitable non-existence.

Yes,  you can ask for the ability to continue in the same way into your 80s.

You have a scary outlook indeed.  But it does not need to be so.  There are increasing number of seniors who are healthy, functional and happy beyond the 70 and close to the 100s.  Stick to them and find out what makes their life like that.  You should be able to follow their example.

You are fortunate.  Preserve your good health forever!

Good health is not sufficient for happiness.  We also have to recognize the importance of health, which moves into first place the older we get,  to receive its contribution to happiness.  Maybe the negative side is more correct:  it is difficult to preserve happiness if we are not in good health.  It is important to realize this if we look forwards to a long life, so we can prepare in time, with plenty of anticipation, for this good life in old age with a healthy lifestyle adopted right away.

Even good health is not sufficient for happiness. But for me, having good health and not falling sick, i am more than happy. Since i am very afraid to fall sick, it totally affects my sleep. And not able to sleep is

not happy at all.

Guest U Happy Meh?

Happy?  What does that even mean?

Happy, like someone always laugh and cackle for no reason?

Happy,  feeling contented, no worries, no stress, live a peaceful lonesome life

Happy,  just being who you are, no need to try pleasing others, or love to be pleased by others?

Happy,  have million dollars in your savings?

Happy,  no exam, no NS, no ICT, No need to work?

Happy,  No sickness?

Happy,  Managed to earn your freebies after an hour queue, a certain rewards for job well done, or managed to watch a movie you waited for a year?

Happy,  Your nasty neighbour decided to move, you managed to get a new key to your BTO, or your new citizenship is approved?

Happy,  Is it a permanent thing?

Happy,  Is it controllable or unchangeable?

Happy,  Is it independent of external factors?

When someone said he is happy, do you feel it, sense it or skeptical about it?

Happiness, like sadness, can also be used as weapon with intention. This part, commom in society, is often overlooked.

What is my take and true defintion of happiness?

UNBURDENED.

It makes sense that we can be afraid to lose that what we value to possess.  So it makes sense to know how solid is our possession, how improbable it is to lose it.

If you are one of those fortunate persons who is in perfect health by nature, without doing anything special to be so,  then it is justified to be afraid.   But if, in addition to be in good health,  you research and learn what keeps you healthy,  and verify that you are doing this, then you can rest, assured that your health will be maintained.

Regardless of your age, it is a good idea to learn about PREVENTIVE MEDICINE,  that is,  what keeps you healthy,  like good nutrition for healthy metabolism, exercise, sleep, stress control.   And then, learn what periodic tests you can have done to detect any threats to your health before you have any symptoms.

Would your therapist also advise you not to chase money?  Imagine u only have 1 hour to live, would you be content to own just 10 dollars for this 1 hour?  SURELY your therapist is chasing a lot of money!

And what does it mean to "chase happiness"?  We should realize that happiness is not an object but a feeling, a state of mind,  and learn how to induce this feeling nearly independently of circumstances.

Being debt free, armed with regular and consistent savings, and able to travel!

After an age, one’s happiness perspective changes for the better.

And you don’t need to always please or depend on anyone else.

“…in your own hands”, some bitch once sang — I quite agree now.

Guest Guest,  you think correctly about how important good health is for our happiness.  But since your fear of falling sick affects your sleep and happiness,  you are the perfect candidate to research the science of staying healthy with preventive medicine, to find out the status of your health by getting the necessary blood tests and scans that conventional medicine offers plus the opinion of the doctor in a checkup,  and then find out how to correct what needs correction and stay healthy.  Then with a renewed confidence about your health, there is one less obstacle to your happiness. :thumb:

In an anonymous forum like this there is little we can do to confirm what someone is boasting about.  But a boasting about happiness is the least evil, I think.
