In Australia, the doctors from the Sexual Health Clinics will do a blood test to see the Kidney & Liver markers as well as HIV before prescribe Prep. They will not prescribe Prep if the Kidney and/or Liver makers are below the guideline as it will cost more harm. Do check with the doctor first
mate69
Yes, the tests you'll need to go through are very thorough before the doc can prescribe you Prep Every 3 months, draw blood, mouth/throat swab, anal swab, urine test

mate69
It's mandatory to have checks on your health e.g STIs and kidney health/creatine etc, and to ascertain you're HIV neg, every 3 months before docs can prescribe PrEP to you. If you're positive, PrEP is not for you and they will put you on another regime altogether. It's dangerous to take PrEP without undergoing the above test every 3 months. miles
I’m genuinely curious and a serious question: while being on prep lowers the risk / prevents HIV infection, there are still risks of other STDs through anal sex without protection. Why do people still have bareback sex then? Quote running, cycling and yoga.

Why do people still have bareback sex then? I guess cuz it just feels better/more natural. Also, (more) people now have access to DoxyPep which can act as some form of protection against STDs, which can be taken in tandem with PreP
thatsamore
How much trust do you have when someone claims to be on PreP? If he is your partner you can trust his word but every other bottom I meet at the sauna are claiming to be on PreP and wanting to go raw. They behave like PreP is a passport to go raw. Raw feels awesome but no way I am taking their word and ditching the condoms. With the price of PreP and the procedures and planning required , I am doubtful that these people are telling the truth. The onus is on you to take prep, not ensure the other side takes it Taking prep protects yourself, regardless whether u know for sure or not if the other side takes The above from @thatsamore shows that is a common misconception about how prep is meant to be administered/taken Edited November 20, 2024 by mate69

Why do people still have bareback sex then? It is because a lot of people are ignorant about other sexually transmitted diseases . For example , HPV . It is the cause of genital warts and anal warts. There is a vaccine for this but a lot don’t know . You can even have HPV just by touching the privates or sucking the person who is infected with HPV. My doctor also told me that you can also have warts inside your mouth. Take the vaccines that are available just to be sure if you missed using a condom , or raped or molested while unconscious or drunk by a person not using a condom, you also have these extra protection. Yes it is added protection but it does not mean that you should wrecklessly have sex without condoms even if you are on it. StockBottom
There is such thing as doxy pep (not prep!) if you are worried about bacterial STIs. https://www.cdc.gov/sti/hcp/doxy-pep/index.html It's far less leychey than HIV prep, but I have not tried it. mate69
Anon_cock Posted yesterday at 04:01 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 04:01 AM Can anyone share where they get their prep from? I used to get it from a clinic it was a generic brand quite affordable < 100. And do HIV test 6 months / annually cause I don't have gay sex that often. (finger prick easy < 100 dollars) But the clinic changed their policy and required me to do a full blood work everytime i need to refill the prep. In total it cost around 300++ dollars for the blood test, doctor consultation, prescription and one bottle. I mean I have consulted the doctor before why must pay for doctor consulation again.. it cost like 80 dollars just to see the doctor... I asked whether can buy more than 1 bottle also cannot. I feel like their policy is out to make money from us, lgbt folks and not really to help us get protected and safe. So I refused to get my prep from there anymore. Now wondering where else can I get a reliable prep. Anyone willing to share where they get their prep from (affordable)?
