Mojohomme
i really depends on your viewpoint. all countries have their best and worst produce. perhaps produce from your another country could be sold at a cheaper price ensuring that the lower income group can enjoy these food at a better price. I avoid any products (as good as possible) from China. Actually, for example I don't see why China now had to get into the Blueberry business, while there was sufficient supply. Everything were they can make a dime they will copy it and destroy the income of certain poorer countries. Now, these blueberries from China are all over and it is already (as often with China) an overproduction chasing out other manufacturers. For certain reasons many of the agricultural products are also from Xinjiang region and it may be from work camps (pomegranate, oranges). If you go to the vegetable section of the supermarkets you would be surprised how much originates from China. It can be up to 90%. I also avoid products from the US, due to the fact that the US is such a rich country (and has also destroyed or impacted the sales of poorer regions). Unfortunately, Singapore is swarmed by US agricultural products. On certain times you don't get any apples or oranges from other countries but just from US. Not sure why Locals here fancy the US products so much. Apples are made shiny and covered with a coat... Last I avoid products from Israel. It is just a silent protest against their unfair treatment of the people around Jerusalem and the West Bank. If Sharon fruits are from Israel, I don't buy. But supermarkets often try to cover up if products are from Israel. Also the indications at supermarkets here in Singapore are very often not correct or indicate wrong countries. You need to double-check on the package (if possible).

Made in Italy doesn't mean the tomatoes are Italian. You need to be very careful. The bigger manufacturers use doubtful tomato sauce from China, where nobody controls what they add. On the packaging they market as Tomato sauce from Italian origin.
