The whole premise of this question lies in a hard case luggage. If you do not travel with a lot of breakable things, or intend to bring back a lot of breakable things, then a hard case luggage is not critical. What you would need would be a foldable, soft bag or a backpack, if you don't mind that. If your travelling style need a hard case luggage, then the next question is the frequency of travel, amount of money to spare, and storage space at home. If you have plenty of storage space at home, and lots of money to spare, then it makes sense to have your own set of luggage whether travel frequently or otherwise. I do not know if you have friends who are willing to lend you luggage at the drop of a hat. If you do, you may not need to buy luggage at all. In any case, do remember the weight of the empty suitcase counts as part of your luggage allowance. If you luggage allowance is 20 kg, and your empty suitcase weighs 7 kg, you have only (20 kg - 7 kg 😃 13 kg worth of clothes and other stuff to put into that suitcase.
