30 Nov 2023: Russia's top court bans LGBT movement as 'extremist'

Recommended Posts

Maybe Russia is starting a new attack against LGBTs to distract from the fact that they are unable to win the war against Ukraine?

LGBTs or not, it seems that Putin's ass is doomed.  Some predict that he will not survive beyond this year.

This is a new hope, favoring the good people in Russia who don't deserve the oppression by this miserable dictator.

He is influenced by his Orthodox Church.  It is politics and he needs to win conservative votes like most countries who won't so gay friendly.   I don't think Putin himself hates the gay.   One might also think along the same line why Singapore S377A took decades to repeal and in the not so recent past all the "gay-themed" library books, school text, cinema posters, commercial ads were unreasonable banned by our authority for fear of losing religious supporters. To wish Putin dead because he won more than 80% landslide election victory? Apparently the Russians love him more than Americans love their president.  As simple as that.

You are right.  The dictator has to buddy with his conservative church to please his religious conservatives.  And conservative churches are homophobic because they need people who symbolize the evil, the sinful,  and gays seem to be just made for this.  Then they can pass on to their flock the comforting feeling that they are not evil and sinful as the abominable LGBTs.

In some countries like America conservative religions add the condemnation of the "pro-choice" defenders of abortion.  In the US,  the Republicans buddy with the Religious Right , the Evangelicals, denouncing the sinful evil of abortion and passing all those anti-abortion laws.  But times have changed and they may have miscalculated with their hypocrite "pro-life".  I don't know about the status of abortion in Russia,  the dictator may get sufficient support from the homophobia in their religion.

BTW,  it seems that the love of the Russian population for Putin is exaggerated in this 80% "landslide".  It is rumored that their election results were forged and it is all a scam to keep the dictator in power.

There are very few atheist countries in the globe.  Their leader does not believe in religion, is not linked with any religious institutions or sponsors, and does not use religion to influence national policies or votes.   China is the only atheist country that comes to mind.  Do you have any countries in mind?  Certainly not the Western world, India, or the Middle Eastern and Asian Muslim countries, where religion and politics are intertwined.   Japan may be close behind China in terms of not having their home politics inflicted by religion. So, you could say that almost all of the world's populations are ruled by religion fanatics of some kind, and gay people are their convenient punching bag when their leaders decide to wake up from the wrong side of the bed.  Joe Biden is now caught between choosing religious country and humanitaranian but he opted the former.  See how convenient it is when election come near to these leaders?

I could not agree more.  We gays are the victims of religion being used and abused by politicians all over the world.  Who knows... didn't Moses do the same with the Jewish religion and its fantasies in Genesis and his other writings?  Didn't the God of Israel justified the barbarities the Israelites did to other folks in their days?

China is giving a good example.  This country is not missing anything by not having a state religion.  Neither does Japan.  Some European countries are also not very deep into state religions.  And America is not supposed to have a state religion either, it is IN OUR CONSTITUTION:  "separation of church and state".  Yet a very dishonest political party now lead by a criminal is courting groups of fanatical religious groups in their desperate attempt to come back to power.
