All the 9 participants, together with the 5 commentators were in the "Boyfriend Night" talk show - which was a nice wrapping up of this reality show!

While I personally dislike Dai/Shun pair (for obvious reason, haha), but what Dai exhibited to Shun was really what true love was all about - being able to compromise, talk things out after dispute, and able to accept Shun's flawed character. This also led to Shun's trying to change for the better, which would a win-win situation for both of them. Hopefully, they could really sustain through the tough times and stand out strong in future!

Usak was rather sweet with his drawing/painting presented, that's probably his strength despite being a go-go dancer and I think he is now more outgoing/forthcoming in a group with more communication? Haha.

Taeheon - my favourite. While he was not romantically related to anyone in the show, he had always displayed the maturity side (apart from being his own age) and helped the others with their 'situations'. Great to know it also ended well with his coming out, wishing him all the best in searching for his soulmate - probably easier now after the show? Haha.

Hope to see a new season soon eh.   :)

The sashimi incident was 🤬 but I liked that they didn't hide the fact they are still having all these arguments in real life.

Then again, Taeheon was right in pointing out how young Shun and Dai are in comparison to him and that Shun resembles him in his younger years. Perhaps, Shun represents the worst side of us in our early 20s, acting out with all the insecurities and doubts. We may dislike his actions but he's definitely his most unfiltered and genuine self on the show.

Indeed, I thought their 'highlighted argument' was some big matter/issue but it turned out to be that sashimi incident, I was like "huh?", haha. Well, I suppose most couples would argue for the slightest 'problem', it should be fine provided the couples took time to talk things out and not hold any grudges eh, haha.

Yes, Taeheon's younger 'princess character' was another surprise, but everyone would have a past and it is just him that he could talk about it nonchalantly (admitting it too) - I do hope he finds other half soon eh, haha.

[Shun's insecurities was like shown throughout the whole show, hopes he could handle it better with Dai's help]

I just watched Boys Like Boys,  the Taiwanese version of The Boyfriend.

Compared to The Boyfriend, Taiwanese conversation was slightly more open (at least what was broadcast) and also slightly more emo, especially near the end.

What I liked about both Japanese and and Taiwan versions are that they are generally not so toxic or competitive like US reality shows.  In particular, there seems to be a lot of focus on healing of wounds, and if we think deeply about some of the advice given by the participants to each other, we can learn something too.  The show was also memorable for the strong friendship (no romance) forged between 2 participants as they helped each other handle their feelings.

Ha ha of course you may also be curious about the looks and physique department of the participants 😄.  What appeals to one guy may be a turnoff to another, so just go watch it yourself lah, ok? So no spoilers here (but I still like Kazuto ha )

Any naughty scenes? Yup, similar to The Boyfriend scenes 😜

Totally agree with this. At first quite like dai and shun but after awhile, I prefer others like Usak too. Nevertheless is a nice show. Wonder what will happen if there is a singapore version hehhe

Before we even talk about the Singapore version's content or getting it produced, there is an uncertainty - will it ever be shown at all? As much as Section 377A was repealed in 2023, I doubt it would be shown at all, haha.

However, hypothetically speaking, if there is going to be a local version, I can imagine our 'local flavour - Singlish' would be spoken and it probably gonna be "big news" in the papers, haha.

Interesting comment ..... I thought Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Amazon Prime etc. are private streaming companies, compared to mediacorp (national TV). Government may "give face" to them ($$$)? 😜

My ideal boyfriend is definitely Dai. The way he accepted and sticked to Shun despite all his flaws. Also Dai got other admirers also but he still chose Shun. He always played the active and caring role in the relationship and knew how to give some space to Shun when he needed it..  Happy for Shun also and the way he is is due to his upbringing and circumstances.

Yes, agree that Taeheon needs more screen time! Hopefully they can create a show with more mature casts..

I do prefer the Taiwanese show more.

Maybe cos I was not really into the Dai/Shun pairing.

Another show I liked very much is "Sparks Camp" from the Philippines.

Watched the first season on Youtube, will get onto the second season soon.

Thanks for the sharing.  I had previously attempted the Taiwanese series but had stopped after 15 min.  Given your feedback, I will go back to view again to discover the possible gem. Thank you.

I had previously watched the Korean version too - His Man, which has 3 seasons already.  It's a bit of a slow burn, but nonetheless, I find it entertaining and was rooting for certain personalities.   To me, a series has a hook if you are rooting for someone :)  And yes, I found a Korean Kazuka in Seasons 1 and 3 :)  And some of the contestants are now actors.

The Hongkong version, Boyscation Season 1 was released in 2022.  It was pretty watchable too - and there was also another Kazuka haha.  Finally - all said, for my personal preference, I thought The Boyfriend was the most well produced and edited.  The pace was kept reasonably tight compared to some of the others, and there were sufficient 'plot twists' to keep viewers engaged.   Happy viewing of His Man, Boyscation if you are giving them a chance.

Thanks. Will put Boyscation in my list too.

I watched His Man S1-3 n enjoyed them too. S3 had a lot of drama though (not sure how much of it was staged), but yeah an interesting / good looking character is always a good hook to reel us in (my heart still races a little when I think of Kazuto ha! )

Looks like Kazuto should be featured again in Season 2 of The Boyfriend:)

I only watched His Man season 2 and 3 ... who's the Korean Kazuto in season 3? 🥰

The out of the blue shitty breakup at the end of season 3 really leave a very bad taste ... ruined the entire season for me.

I watched the Taiwanese version too, quite a few hot guys, nice but too much crying 😂

I suppose a lot of the really heartfelt emo moments / crying came about when they shared about parents who could not accept their sexuality and/or gave really harsh comments.  Also in the last episode for the Taiwan version, although that was partly fueled by the free flowing alcohol 😅

The same happened in The Boyfriend and Korean His Man S1 when parents were mentioned. After that I do not recall “parents” being a conversation topic in His Man S2 & S3. Perhaps becos it would be misconstrued as indirect public criticism of their parents or pressuring their parents to be more accepting.

When it comes to being emo over their relationships, I think it is super unlikely for deep feelings to develop over 7-8 days for the Taiwanese and Korean shows.  The Boyfriend maybe since the participants stayed tog for like a month. But then who knows….

Thanks for the question.. it’s

Kim Jaesang.  He’s quiet and prefers to not be in limelight  but when you slowly notice him, he’s smouldering hot! He’s got a good mix of inner mystique and outward sexiness .

His Man S2 has a very good Jenga scene where they shared their coming out, I think parents might be mentioned.

The Taiwanese and Korean shows are too long for the short 7 days stay, while the Japanese show is too short for the month long stay.

My fav too. Noticed him immediately, so do many of the participants, I think he's one of the most popular!

Any fans of Kazuto here?

He is coming for "Singapore Fan Meet" on 11 Jan 2025 at the Hard Rock Cafe, but not for free eh - if you are keen, haha.
