Live with a Purpose

Recommended Posts

My POV is slightly different on this. I need to help myself first b4 helping other ppl. Selfish before selfless.

Why do I need to help accomplish other ppl's dreams when even my dreams are not realized n fulfilled?

Once you have truly helped yourself in accomplishing your goals, then you will have no problems in helping other people.

This is my 2 cent on this.

I understand your 2 cents on this. But, in reality, once yo have accomplished your goals, you will completely forget other people.

Sadly my life purpose is pretty much...

"make sure whatever  happens each day, you cum and ejaculate at the end of the day"

That few seconds of climax is what's I'm living for. Otherwise my life is just full of hardship.

Er... how you detect the moment when you have accomplished all your dreams and it is time to help other ppl?   Will you ever have accomplished ALL your dreams?

Life purpose ???  Hmmm... this can be a moving target.  Maybe the best is to be very general, like "my life purpose is for it to be the best I can make it", ha ha. And this would be a life choice, not its purpose.  It is highly moral to have the goal to help others.  But... what is life purpose of these others?  What do the life of eight billion people accomplish?

Coming closer to the end of life, I have to confess that its purpose is not very clear to me.  I feel that my life so far is a success!  But... what is the purpose of this ??  If my successful life had not existed, what would have been lost?

The fact that u have been on careful and healthy diet certainly means u are planning to live longer, meaning u have other purpose in mind during the next 40 years.. Was it not?

I think that this time you are wrong. Modern technology has given plenty of richness to modest people. We can travel the world, have most conveniences at home, plenty of food, plenty of entertainment, and we can FEEL rich completely ignoring the billionaires.  WHO needs a private plane, yacht, mansion with 10 bathrooms, golden toilet?  And the Internet offers us more information than what we can consume.

I want to prolong my life because it is a happy one,  and as a healthy senior I am not burdening others.  So, to "prolong" is my goal, with not much purpose beyond taking care of my older sister and see that my grandchildren come along well.  And when I leave, I don't care what happens to my ashes, ha ha.

Everyone is rich compared to the really poor.  A purpose goal of society should be to completely eliminate poverty, maybe to pass it on to soul-less robots with AI.

There should be a balance between selfish and selfless. Focussing ur resources to others reduce excessive energy to self, reduce potential mental issues.

I have met role models who did that and miraculously, I witnessed how contented they are.

I wonder the point about asking questions such as the purpose of life. The last time I thought deeply about it after my retrenchment, I fell into a long bout of depression. Since then, I have decided to live each day as it comes, with short term achievable goals and try my best not to be unhappy. Sometimes, delving into unanswerable questions is like starting into the abyss.

To get paid every month.

Everyday I wake up wonder what's the purpose of live.

To die in the end.

Although his talk is about palliative care and dying, his ideas are also applicable to living and living well: change perspective/priority to cut off unnecessary suffering; make space for aesthetic gratification/sensorial delights to stay present; find beauty/meaning in whatever moments we have to make life more wonderful rather than less horrible.

What is the nature of your work?  are you on a production line, being one link in a long chain, or can you know what the end product is?  If so, you can understand the purpose of your work.  This should be important, even if we only add one screw to the machine.

Then knowing what your work creates, you know the purpose of your work, THE PURPOSE OF WORK.

Your monthly pay is just the fuel that keeps you producing your work.  A fuel that translates into food and other essentials for your existence. One desirable situation is when getting paid is not essential and Instead,  interest, passion, satisfaction are the main drives for your work.

Something To Ponder ?

AFTER RETIREMENT
When the game is over, both the king and the pawn return to the same box.
This is a must read for all retirees. The truth is that all used and none functional bulbs are the same.
A Senior Executive retired and shifted from his palatial official quarters to the housing society, where he owned a flat. He considered himself too big and never talked to anyone. Even while walking in the community park every evening, he ignored others, looking at them with contempt and disdain.
One day, it somehow transpired that an elderly person sitting beside him started a conversation, and they continued to meet. Every conversation was mostly a monologue with the retired Executive harping on his pet topic, “Nobody can imagine the big post and high position I held before retirement. I came to this community due to compulsion”; and so on, and the other elderly persons used to listen to him quietly. After many days, when the retired Executive was inquisitive about others, the elderly listener opened his mouth and said,
“After retirement, we are all like used and finished BULBS. It does not matter what a bulb’s wattage was, how much light or glitter it gave. I have been living in this community for the last 5 years and have not told anyone that: *I was a Member of the Parliament for two terms.
On your right, over there is:- *A Man* who retired as General Manager in Corporation.
Over there is *Another Man* who was a Major General in the Army. That *Man* sitting on the bench in spotless white dress is: *PROFESSOR*, who was a former lecturer in a University before retirement. He hasn’t revealed it to anyone, not even to me, but I know."
All used dysfunctional bulbs are now the same – whatever its wattage was – 10, 40, 60, 100 watts – it doesn’t matter now. Neither does it matter what type of bulb it was before it got finished – LED, CFL, Halogen, Incandescent, fluorescent, or decorative.
And that, my friend, applies to you too. The day you understand this, you will find peace and tranquillity even in this housing society. Remember, the rising sun as well as the setting sun are both beautiful and adorable. But, in reality, the rising sun gets more importance and adoration, and is even worshipped, whereas the setting sun is not given the same reverence. It is better to understand this sooner than later.
Dear friend, your current designation, title and power are not permanent. Keeping a lot of emotions with these things only complicates your life when you lose them one day. Remember that when the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box.
Therefore, enjoy your achievements today/all that you have acquired today. Have a fabulous time ahead.
Be at peace with yourself. At the end of the day all those certificates are nothing but just a piece of paper that will be replaced by only one certificate... Death Certificate.
Retirees, pls keep in touch and support each other. Where possible, put a smile on someone's face. Be your brother and your sister's keeper.
God bless you.

Guest Me Think

The most fun charitable work is to distribute unsold foods, taken from pastries shops, restaurants and markeplace, to the poor and needy to avoid wastage.

Also, it is nice to let elderly folks watch free movies in the community center or nursing home.  No need to pay.

I realisedd some of the old folks activities are quite boring and a waste of their resting time.  It doesn't stimulate excitement nor joy.   Currently, the entire process is perfunctorily carried out for show and treated like pre-school children.

Ask them, "Why did you guys bring me to life?".  And they will tell you.  If they can't they either didn't have an idea or you're just an accident from them having raw fun.

Probably their answer would be, so that you can earn money and take care of them when they're old.

You are giving too much importance to your parents.

To begin with, children are part of the parent's importance of life.  Their children's importance is something private of their own.

And second,  not the parents, not the children, not the government, not the priest, not even ourselves, NOBODY knows our life purpose. "Purpose" is a very human word that may not have an existence in Nature.  Same as "good" and "bad".

Ever read Adam Smith?  Children are human capital.  They can make the parents money, if they're not fucked up disabled body or mind or just plain lazy, unmotivated or fat like a whale.  Then they're just a liability.

You should be the first to heed your advice, since you definitely don't know what your purpose is, not only in life, but here.  You don't need to shut up,  you can blabber and give us something to read, which you do aplenty.

Cute observation.   In the good old days the investment in children paid off quite early,  as soon as they could do some work in the fields.

Today, the investment in children is much higher and lasts much longer, until they are adults and even beyond.  This is why families today have much fewer children.

In my case,  my investment in children has paid off,  not in a single dollar, but in satisfaction, pride,  and four grandchildren.  I prefer it this way.  :thumb:

You don't need to be cynical.  The purpose of children is not to make the parents money,  but to enhance the meaning of their lives.  It gives fulfillment to their lives, but not everyone needs this.  We gays, for example, can live a satisfactory life without our own children.  And also, without children, fewer things can go wrong.
