Why not the usual specs? How special you want specs to be? The best specs are the ones which the optician tested your eyes and custom made the most accurate pair, it need not need to be the most expensive / branded pair. QinWei
Owndays lenses are full of complaints Aug 10, 2024 bought once, cmi. end up went back to my usual neighbourhood shophouse uncle made another pair. i feel their opticians too young and inexperienced. or at least, at the outlet i went. the one that attended to me to do the read alphabet eyesight test one is like some young punk and took like 15min to get the "correct" degree. neighbourhood uncle <5 min settle. also i paid extra 100 for the lens to be ultra-thin but when it came the lens was thick as phark. i ask them how come they say for my degree that is the thinnest. i went back to the neighbourhood uncle make another pair. end up the new pair was like 1/3 if not 1/2 thinner than the ownsday pair. buttbERry so far is a no Twinkling commented “Owndays lenses scratches very easily” Kpo said “Owndays better don bring young kids for eye test. Better go n test in clinic” this is terrible, if it cannot be tried on kids, i doubt it ought to be tested on humans Luckygal mentioned “feel my transition lens from owndays do not turn as dark as my ften’s lens from another shop when both of us are at the same place for the same duration of time” Linz said that “owndays lens turned yellowish after a while.” qhong and coca commented “Cheap cannot be good. Mine $1k. Using since 2014.“ https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/is-there-any-place-to-get-cheap-glasses-made-in-singapore.6658121/post-138531892 Callow prefer zoff too & drawstring said Zoff 1 : Owndays 0 see the vote: https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/zoff-or-owndays.7065998/ Owndays lens, A LOT of scratches after 1+ year. Without any abuse mind you. Is like the hard coating suddenly failed.https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/quality-of-frames-and-lenses-zoff-vs-owndays-vs-lenskart.6654189/page-2 Zoff quality is indeed better than owndays. But i cannot find the model i want. Most of their model is round or have big lens. I prefer narrower lens to make the lens thinner on the edge and looks more professional for working environment. Although i dont know who Pocoyoz is (a cartoon character though) “moi bought from zoff and ownsdays. zoff much better.“ & indeed there must be comparison before we jump to conclusions needless to say why i agree w Pocoyoz, i m the user hence i knew It is ez for non-tryer to comment all these are those who tried cheap is not our objective, it is your pair of eyes and you need to meet clients daily need not be supporting designer labels but we shdnt opt for the cheaper range ‘Bro, if you have a budget of $500,do not go for owndays. Their lenses suck and the coating comes off even with normal washing” https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/speckies-only-can-anyone-recommend-me-spectacle-lense-brand-that-dont-scratch-easily.6953019/page-4 https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/anyone-bought-spectacles-from-owndays-good-or-not.7054697/#post-153358707 btw, lenskart is from India

Brocklm
Got 3 pairs from Bolon as I prefer bigger lens frame as my eyes are smaller. Those big frame specs will usually make my eyes bigger and I love them. They have those rose gold colour frame and is made from Titanium which is also why I kept going to buy from them. I have allergy towards stainless steel frame, which caused rusty because of my sweat. The only time I am not satisfied with their service is the pair they told me was beta Titanium and claim that it does not rust. That pair of specs after less than 1 month wearing was all rusty. I was angry with them when they refused to change until I wrote in to their headquarter then they eventually change for me. Suntec Bolon that outlet is really bad service. I do not recommend anyone to make your specs from that outlet. QinWei

I would say Bolon in Singapore has several outlets. I went to Wisma, Plaza Singapura and Bishan outlets are quite good. GWTW
Recently went to neighbourhood optical shop for new glasses. Ended up with a pair of normal spec and sunglasses. Oakley ones. The optician is very professional and recommended a lot of stuffs. Dun really like the services from franchise optical shops. Too generic. Steve5380
Nearsightedness is hereditary, my mother was very nearsighted, and so I have been moderately nearsighted all my long life. In my late teens I started wearing contacts, the old rigid ones, and although in high school and university I wore glasses, I never did at work. They didn't know me nearsighted. Along the way, the soft flexible contacts came along and I did always wear them without problems. After retirement and post-retirement work, I started to return to glasses. Simple, good quality glasses that included also corrections for astigmatism, misc. coatings, etc. But in the last decade I returned to wear contacts for my practice of the martial art Aikido, since rolling on the floor with glasses on scares me ( however there are people who do this ). And in recent years i wear a contact in my left eye at night, since this eye lid does not close perfectly. Modern technology provides us with a near perfect correction for accommodation ( near or far sightedness ). Thus we can have a perfect vision with these. What I have always stayed away from is any work on my cornea to correct for this, like the old radial keratotomy, and now the recent excimer laser ablation. I DON'T WANT surgeries, which are not always successful. What is of UTMOST importance is to preserve a healthy retina, everything else can be corrected for. And when becoming a senior, it is wise to follow a healthy nutrition for eye health too! Cataracts can be prevented or reduced by staying away from sugars, since they cause glycation of the lens. And overall eye health is helped by consuming omega-3 fatty acids and a supplement of lutein + zeaxanthin. And YES, I find that glasses make some guys more CUTE! A little "intellectual look" can add to their charm. And for seniors, healthy living will preserve healthy vision and healthy brain!
cbm
I understand why there is such topic on this forum. Would like to share my opinions on some points. 1) prevalence of myopia in Singapore: Many Singaporeans including myself, have myopia. Those that don't wear glasses might have had corrective surgery or are wearing contact lens. 2) why do children become myopic: People often say that watching too much TV or reading books (near vision work) will make you shortsighted. These things are almost always done indoors. Studies in Singapore and in other countries have found that lack of exposure to natural sunlight affects eye development and cause children to become myopic. I heard in Taiwan, schools have started conducting lessons outdoors to get children more exposed to sunlight. For myself, I do recall spending alot more time indoors than outdoors when I was a child. 3) frame material, plastic: plastic frames tend to be cheaper than metal. Comes in many colours. I like the S7 iluvu brand of frames from Korea. Their plastic seems to different from other brands. Flexible yet strong. Extremely durable and last me years till today. I use plastic frames as a backup pair and put them on when I'm doing rigourous activities. If plastic frames break, you will need to replace. 4) frame material, metal: metal frames tend to cost more than plastic. There are different types of metal used. I like titanium as it's very light. In terms of colours, metal is coated with paint. It's not like plastic where the colour is solid throughout. Which means over time, the paint will chip away and expose the actual metal colour underneath. One pair from Braun Buffel lasted me for over five years. I had to stop using them because my prescription changed. If metal frames break, you can get them repaired. I use metal frames for daily wear. 5) frame hinges: I like those with screwless hinges. Very clever. No need to worry about screws coming loose or coming off. My current pair has screws that get loose after awhile. 6) lens thickness & weight: apart from myopia, I have got astigmatism too. Lens have to be thicker in order to make corrections. Thicker lens means heavier. Thankfully, now they have high index lenses. My current lenses are 1.67 7) photochromic/transition lenses: it works seamlessly. useful when travelling. The lenses never get very dark when in Singapore but when in other countries, they do turn a blacker shade of dark. 8) blue light filter: based on what I read, I think this is a gimmick. A few of my friends who are not myopic are wearing blue light blocking spectacles though. 9) sore ears: sometimes my ears get sore from wearing specs all day long, every day. Particular the part of the ear that the spec arms rest on. 10) international chains: Owndays (from Japan) - their frames are too small for me. Need wider frames for my face shape Lenskart (from India) - I have a pair of plastic frames. The material is not as flexible as S7 from Korea. The lenses are fine when I am looking from the center. But when I am looking from the edges, it is blurry. It's cheap and you can tell why. 11) specs vs contacts vs surgery: I won't say that I am a specs lover. I prefer not having to wear them. Lenses fog up in cold weather and require wiping during water activities or rain. I sometimes use disposable one day contact lenses to rest my sore ears or for water activities. Wearing contact lenses everyday requires discipline to put on, take off, and clean the contacts. Cleaning solution, eye drops and contacts are recurring costs. As for surgery, it costs alot of money. Lasik is not reversible. It removes part of the cornea and you may still need glasses after this type of surgery. ICL surgery, where they implant a lens inside your eye, is a better option I feel. It is reversible. But it costs more than Lasik. So weighing the pros and cons, convenience, cost, all factors put together, wearing specs is the most suitable option for me. Question: how often do you guys wash your specs? I wipe them at the start of each day and wash them every one or two weeks.

I also wear 1-day Acuvue contacts, their price is low enough to throw them away after one use. But... I am frugal and use them 2 or even 3 days, ha ha! They are very thin and a bit tricky to handle, but I manage. They don't need cleaning. When I wear glasses, I wash them after a few days, never wipe them, although I have a product to do this. Although ICL surgery sounds like a practical permanent solution, I would only use it if my correction is problematic to do otherwise. Surgery is... surgery. Glasses or contacts seem suitable for a whole life, hopefully even at 100 with good vision. So far I have been saved of cataracts correction, and if one day I need this, this should take care of my myopia.
