Available sources on homosexual behaviour in ancient Japan, as in ancient China, are largely literary. Unlike the West, in Japan sex was not viewed in terms of morality, but rather in terms of pleasure, social position, and social responsibility. Like the premodern West, however, only sexual acts were seen as being homosexual or heterosexual, not the people performing such acts.

My understanding is that contemporary views of and attitudes towards homosexuality (gays and lesbians) is influenced to a large part by Christainity (in particular, Catholicism) and the spread of the religion via the western world. Not too sure of details tho.

I think you are right on the mark there!

I grew up in England and I was brought up as a catholic. Homosexuality was frowned upon so much! As a young boy, I really thought it really didn't exist because they demonized it so much. It could not possibly happen, as I remember thinking.

If ingestion of semen is the requirement for them to become men, then they do not really need to perform oral sex on the adults... all they need is for adult men to collect their semen and pass it to these boys to drink...
