I reckon you might need a huge screened HD TV and premium surround sound system to be able to mimic that kind of experience in the cinema though.

A moron just said "Its just cartoon lah". So, a black & white TV will do just fine ?!

Honestly, I don't understand why some people having thoughts about watching cartoons or 3D animation movies have to be associate with one's maturity. I feel that we are free to watch any form of media as long it is entertaining. Watching cartoons doesn't make a mature man childish. Same for playing console or PC games. What a mentality !

To bring out the best effects at home, it is best to have a 50 inch and above Full HD plasma or LED TV. The movie in 3D Blu-ray format(upcoming). A good 7.1 home theatre system that is able to decode the lastest sound codec. That will be perfect

Avatar is breathtaking. I also bought the PC version game....wow the graphic is super but make sure your pc is high-end type esp the gc. Gameplay is fun and of cuz I choose to play as a Na'vi. The graphic is astounding for a pc game and you get to ride the ikran and also the 'horses' and all the plant life and animals on pandora looks 'alive' and the colours are rich and vivid.

Just wonder how long before avatar for 'AVATAR' will start appearing in 2nd Life.

I am shocked!!! I thought this movie was too draggy and messy and lots of conversation.

One of my best movies of 2009 has to be Confessions of a Shopaholic. That movie spoke to me and we had a long conversation and became very good friends. Only other movie I watched 3 times in the cinema.

I have never been one to follow critics and box office rankings.

I also loved the following movies from 2009:-

(500) Days of Summer (This to me is the best movie of 2009... Watched it 3 times and I want to watch it again.. Shall go and get the DVD.. ),

District 9 (This made me hate humans and want to spit at everyone..),

Julie & Julia (I LOVE AMY ADAMS and I sat through the movie not knowing how long it was and after the movie ended, I felt so energised and so shocked that it was 2 hours; felt like an hour only, time flies when you are having fun),

Fantastic Mr. Fox (ahhhh... memories of childhood, reading Roald Dahl books),

Up (the 5 minutes that summarised Carl and Ellie's married life was one of the best moments in the cinema in 2009 for me and I cry every single time I revisit the couple getting married, living their simple life, their ups and downs and growing old together... arrrggghhh tearing now also, and it was amazing with the soundtrack and all and there was no dialogue whatsoever, the most heart wrenching 5 minutes in the cinema for me),

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (really brought out the kid in me, bouncing in jello and all),

He's Just Not That Into You (The movie that confirmed for me I am a woman with how I read into all the little things that people say and do and most of the time I am misreading things),

Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr. IS HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT!!!!!!!),

I Hate Valentine's Day (This never came out in Singapore, so I watched it online and I love it so much that I would watch it in the cinema if it ever played here),

9 (it was just really something cool, did not enjoy the ending but oh I gave it full ratings in my review),

Whatever Works (Smartest movie of the year and wittiest and most sarcastic and oh so full of love and life),

Zombieland (I loved that zombies could sprint in this movie and the characters were just so fun to follow),

Taking Woodstock (I will always remember the scene where the father tells the son to go and live his life for himself and no longer need him to be at home with them and live his life for the parents),

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller so hot and reminded me of cartoons I watched when young),

Push (I was surprised I love this movie, Dakota Fanning and Chris Evans and I hope there is a sequel but probably not likely I think),

The Ugly Truth (Love, love, love Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler is so macho macho man!),

Inglorious Basterds (Tarantino, 'nuff said),

Star Trek (Not a trekkie but I went just to catch Simon Pegg; I love the guy),

Monsters vs. Aliens (Not bad show and I watched it in 3d, my first 3d movie; I love BOB!),

Fame (the dance numbers were awesome and the theme song just makes me feel inspired to do something artistic)

And there you have it, my favorite movies of 2009 (not in any real order)! :thumb:

And I just could not help but include the heartwrenching scene from Up...

The Hurt Locker was exceptional. The intensity, the humanity of the soldier... stripped bare of the bullshit when life is on the line. I'd like to see that movie win an Oscar. I'm just shocked how good this movie is.

... and I say that after watching it back to back with Inglorious Basterds.

In My Own Opion...I find all of you LAME & VERY SHALLOW...

Most of you just go Ga-Ga over the CGI effects and how this movie compare to the ones you've last watched. And the best part, all of you are just looking at the surface of the storyline.

Anyone here notice that the story is about 144 years into the future???

Anyone notice that we are doing the same thing now drilling for crude oil on our own Planet? (In the movie, humans are mining for the mineral 'unobtanium')

Look at what all these drilling and mining have done to our world. I feel that James Cameron is passing a message through his movie Avatar, a wake-up call. Telling us if we are not careful, we will end up destroying our own Earth and also risk destroying others.

And the part when the Na’vi connects with thier wildlifes and nature is what we human lack. People don't care to give back to nature, people just keep taking from it. But the Na'vi, respects what they take. All I'm trying to say is stop being shallow and really look at things as they are and not what they appear to be...

Sadly, all these takes time and I hope its not too late. I know alot of you will reteliate at this post, before you do that, ask yourself what have you done today to make you feel Proud as a Human Being.

I don't find anything wrong when we enjoy the CGI. The main purpose of going to the movies is to be entertained. If I want a documentary I will go watch discovery channel or NGC, and believe you me, there are tonnes of the environmental docus there.

You may altruistically believe that James Cameron is trying to pass a message. Maybe he is, but I tend to believe that the plot will go well with the major public (Yes I am cynical). I think presently there is hardly anyone not aware of the environmental issue, even my grandparents are conscious about this. You don't need to make an expensive movie to pass this message.

According to the latest news, some of the extras on the Avatar DVD (that will soon be released), will show how these Na'vi creatures would have sex intercourse to each other. Hmm .. it'll be very interesting to see :thumb: . Any thoughts on how these creatures have their share of fun?

There's an article in Sunday Times today "Spare us the white messiah".

I was thinking that when I watched...

It was like a mix of Last Samurai, Pocahontas and Studio Ghibli's Castle in the Sky (the floating islands look like they came right out from that animation).

Cliches aside, the script was excellent and thoughtful, the visual and artistic side - the colour palaete and creatures, and how they were animated - very imaginative... I thought the facial expressions were very well animated. Bear in mind, that is probably the most difficult part of any animation process. Of course, they're not as expressive (or natural) as real actors, it's still animation. But if you want to create such a fantastical world, using real actors and sets would be very limiting.

I understand the sentiments of the writer on "the White Messiah" complex. It annoys me too that Hollywood is so - Hollywood Centric but that's because their primary market is the USA and to this day, they don't consider the rest of the world very much. The good thing about that is - all the disasters tend to happen to the USA too - can you guys think of big movies where significant events happen in Sth East Asia? Not a lot and certainly not in the major hits.

Meanwhile - sometimes a society does need an outsider to come show them how things 'might' be done differently. But at the end of the day, it's up to the community to decide whether to accept of not. Speaking from an Australian perspective - much of Aussie culture is now infused with Mediterranean and Asian cultures which has contributed to their vibrance (thought some stupid red necks don't realise this still). So it's a two way street. Societies that remain too insular tend to produce outdated expected responses to crisis.

At the end of the day - in Avatar, the 'white messiah' actually saw the benefits of the tribal culture and became one of them - it's as much about the redemption of the 'white messiah' as it is about the saving of the tribes. More importantly - the tribes took thinks into their own hands when galvanised - that's important too and didn't sit back and wait to be saved.

And the last point - many of the army personnel in Avatar were Pacific Islanders - not Americans. Have a look if you watch again and their men are HOT!

Heh heh... Did anyone notice there were not chubby NaVis? It's all the tree climbing!

The movie is overrated. It's at best entertaining. There is no lasting after taste, and I forgot about the movie after leaving the cinema. The story is too cliche and other movies have been there, done that. Was expecting the Na'vi culture and language to be totally out of this world but instead it becomes a mirror of some African tribe.

yes i know i am slow, i only watched the movie today (2D one, esp after all the bad review of the 3D)

Funny thing is, the 2010 version was of equal length with the original 1981 version, and yet the 1981 seemed to have much better story telling and longer plot. The 2010 version can be summarized as Perseus, seeking revenge and killed monsters. It simply lacked the complexity of the 1981 one. (you can find the story line in wiki)

There were almost zero character development, Perseus was as wooden as he could be, and the whole seduction/ training on how to kill Medusa was really uncalled for and unnecessary. The whole movie just felt like an action game, the quiet portions were just to tide over to the next action sequence.

End of the day, it is your average run-the-mills action movie, dont compare with the original and you will enjoy the movie.

didnt watch the 80s one, but i kinda like the graphic.

but i feel that the ending is ...too sudden....

like as though, first and middle part of the show... the scriptwriters pour out their heart and soul to it... heheh but..was rushed at the end... maybe... dateline haha

Agree. I prefer the 80's version thought the technology can't be compared to the 2010 one.

For example, the climax of the movie, where they entered Medusa's lair, no doubt it was an action figure, it was definitely creepy. Medusa was supposed to be the most hideous creature in the Greek mythology, and not a pretty face with snakes as hair

The 80s version is definitely more magical.

After watching the movie, I felt there were too much flaws:

Sam Worthington is a tad too old for the role of a 20 year old.

He was sporting a crew cut and wearing a T shirt most of the time, looking more like GI Sam.

Mt Olympus look like a space station

Zeus was wearing a shinning space suit.

The Kraken looks like godzilla with tentacles

That Djinn creature reminds me of Chewbacca in Star Wars.

After watching the old version again on DVD, I think the story telling, pacing and the character casting is better.

The only the new version of Medusa is alot sleeker and sexier.

I watched the 80s version. It is so much better. This version, the perseus character failed to impress (yes, ma jiam wood like tat). Lucky have some good CG otherwise the whole show is a wash out.

Frankly speaking, i am quite disappointed n yes the ending was too fast and suddenly it is all over...

the good part of this movie that it raised my interest in Greek Mythology, unlike other civilization's God creation, Greek's had a unique way of seeing their god, petty, selfish and lustful, like human.

Looking at the stories of Zeus, almost like the tale of a dirty old man. like to fool around with various maiden and yet afraid of his wife Hera.

Go google the story of Medusa and Perseus, much more interesting than the 2 Clash of the titans movies (the scorpions and the Kraken were made up by the first movie writer for the action sequence, Perseus actually used the head of Medusa on the lecherous King who forced Perseus's mother into marriage)

Seems like all the other Greek Mythology gods are all like that.

In the other movie, Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief, Poseidon fathered Percy.

BTW, in this movie, there is also a Medusa but a damn pretty one played briefly by Uma Thurman.

the story of Medusa is also fascinating

Once a very beautiful girl, she had sex with Poseidon (God of the Sea) in the temple of Athena (Goddess of wisdom). As a punishment to her (why only punished the girl? dont dare to touch Poseidon?) Athena turned Medusa into a monster. Athena turned Medusa prized hair into snakes and her looks so hideous that one look will turn any man into stone.

Talked for poetic justice, Medusa no longer could get attention on her face as all will avoid her.

Just curious, any fans of God of War series here? As a fan of GoW, i find this movie fascinating and fun to watch, and i treat it as an extension of the game.

Sure OralB, the story of Medusa are very fascinating, they should make a movie all about her.

Meanwhile, check out her real sister, Euryale, as featured in GoW2.

I think many of you already watched this movie recently but I still want to mention again here :P

Hachiko is an emotional movie based on a true story about a dog in Japan. I am not a pet lover but the movie really touched me very much. If you think only humans are aware of love, then you must be wrong after watching this. But I would not recommend you to watch this movie before a date as I did ... because in the end, you will cry ... alot !!!

I wish I watched this movie before travelling to Japan, so I could visit that place

I watched "The Hurt Locker" long time ago and forgot about it until it was nominated for Oscar then I watched again, still no big impression to me:(. Many people recommend "The shutter island" then I decided to watch it over the weekend but I fell asleep 3 times and until now, I haven't finished it yet but I will watch... it attentively again for sure :-). Anybody here like that movie "The shutter island" ?

To refresh my mind, I changed to watch this movie "Brothers" due to its cast. It is also a movie about war, then I do like it especially the last words in the movie :

" Someone said that : Only the dead had seen the end of war.

- I have seen the end of war. The question is ... Can I live again?"

At 2 hours plus, SATC2 really felt like dragging its feet. The irony part was its success was the problem of this movie. With numerous seasons and 1 very successful movie later, SATC2 realized that there wasn't much topic to cover or issue to tackle.

Sex, well the seasons covered most of it, in fact this must be the one with the least sex (only once)

Do I or do I not, covered in the 1st movie

Cheating partner, yeap 1st movie as well.

Hence we got minor issues this time round and mostly were 4 old ladies whining about their life, and the sad part was, their whining weren't interesting at all.

Later portion of the movie read like an over-size travelogue, with the glam and the glitter. You know it spelled trouble when they had to leave new york for a good portion of the screen time, when New York provided the vibrant and interesting background featured in the previous installment.

Not to mention the movie became, well, rather gay, we had a gay wedding in the beginning and no less than 2 shots of erected penis, though covered.

I hoped the franchise would stop at this, else I could imagine in SATC3 on even more trivial issue like Samantha frowning on her broken nails...

Simply said, this is the Magic of SATC. :P

Despite poor storyline, ageing cast and done-till-death sequences, SATC continues on as a cash cow franchise. This franchise is defnitely bigger than life and SATC 2 film is merely a small installment. The show is only on screens for 2 weekends and they are already at the 3/4 mark of their $100 mil target.

I believe the film's main draw is that it touches the hearts of the worldwide female population. Most of the ladies (30s,40s & 50s years old) i know are catching this film with their girlfriends. SATC has given them an opportunity to catch up with their dear friends and reminisce the good old days and be all girly again. And it's ladies we are talking about, so all the pretty images of fashion, luxury and men will definitely make their day.

I haven't got the time to catch SATC 2, but i will go catch it as i think the ladies are Hot! :smokin: I like them this way, pretty and fun. Below are my ratings for the shows I watched over the past few weeks.

Robin Hood - 4/5

Prince of Persia - 3/5

Nightmare on Elm Street - 2.5/5

Personally, I think the first movie ended where the story should have.

While SATC 2 had its funny moments (eg. Erin the Irish nanny...), I felt the lines were already a very weak attempt to inject life into a dying vessel. The jabs taken at the Arab way of life was IMO rather insensitive and somehow a very American take on things in the world - if it doesn't gel with the American way, it is no one's way.

Now my only hope is they do not go and make SATC 3!

I argee that if the movie ended on the first one, everything would have been ended nicely from all the prior seasons in HBO since 1998. I see a great potential that they would probably do a third one and even a fourth one to end everything. Although the ratings and critics are pretty below average for SATC2, the movie's revenue is still doing pretty well.

Samantha also gives me laughter especially the part where she went head-ons with the Arab men with crude actions and her condoms. HAHA.

Eclipse is basically about whether should Belle lose her virginity to hot hunky shirtless but constantly pissed as if someone step on his tail Jacob, or cool charming handsome but always brooding until he had that constipated look Edward.

one and half hour later into the movie, I just wished the 3 of them could just get a place and have a 3some (cue Britney's "3" - 1, 2, 3, Edward, Belle and Jacob), oh wait, they did eventually in the tent :P

I have to admit that I am not the fan of the book nor the movie franchise, I am simply not the gender demographic targets and I am way pass my adolescent age. But Twilight is the ultimate female fantasy book, like how "playboy" would do to an adolescence boy, here you have 1 of the hottest man and another is the coolest guy, who fell head over heels over a plain jane, who's willingly to take a bullet for her, who would respect her words like decree... and she is the central of their universal

And most importantly, men that can cuddle in bed with her and yet not pulling down her panties and F her crazy.... Now that's fantasy

The pace were uneven and certain parts which should be detailed were hasten (i meant why flashed out Rosalie's back story but edited her brutally assaulted and eventual revenge?) while other scenes dragged till I wished someone would kill off Belle and let Jacob, in his werewolf form, fxxk Edward doggie style.

The saving grace would the brief finale of werewolves/ vampires vs the new borne. The vampire training portion was entertaining but why let the werewolves just be spectator and not be involved in the training? Might as well send them a youtube video link and save them the traveling time.

Oh I forgotten to mention the plot, at the end of the movie, Edward and Belle were right back at the "Marry Me" stage in the previous movie.

p/s: I still dont get the part when the werewolves tribe could bury their century old grudges with their mortal enemy just to protect a girl. Jacob, yes, but the whole tribe?

The whole ep is jus making gals and gays angry over what a Bitch Bella is who has 2 cute hunky guys fighting over her, swore to protect her life and bear with the nonsense of her getting intimacy wif both. ( What an indecisive bitch) lol... anyway over its a good movie, worth watching ...just that the lengthy dialogue is killing me during the 1st 1 and half hr. To me, the highlight of the show is just Edward and Jacob..Jacob's bod is...woooooh!

This episode is much detailed than the previous 2, especially the history of the cullens and also the blood-washed grudge between the 2 clans. It has unveiled part of the mystery and satisfied the audience's curiosity and doubts.

Love the scene when the 3 of them stuck in the tent with Jacob half naked hugging Bella in bed and poor Edward watching helplessly by the side. Kind of ironic but its spells out how helpless Edward can be in certain ways to protect Bella and his love for her is deep enough to tolerate anything.

Parts that keep me pondering:

First, Vampires are undead, how can they have sex? imagine dead ppl having hard-on and ejaculate stale cums...WAHAHAHAHA...bella's vagina gona stink :P CCB

Secondly, when Jacob was bitten by the vampire on the back and he was turn back to human form, the scene shown part of his shorts. Ain't him supposed to be naked as he had tore his clothes when transformed? hmmm Director and Editor isnt careful LOL.

Answer to oralb's query: Because if the newborn came into the area, there will be a bloodbath during their search for Bella or even after Bella is killed. They will hunt for blood in tat vicinity. To prevent bloodbath, they have to step in.

(Toopid Bitch, attract so much attention :P)

The clever US movie marketer is subtly promoting this as a movie with gay interest.

But for those who have watch the movie, this 2 minute parody was way better and funnier than the actual movie.

That's Hollywood's universe.

Another example is X-Men: The Last Stand in the final scene between Phoenix and Wolverine...why is Wolverine still has his pants on while his shirt is shredded and torn away by Phoenix' mind blast?

Since Edward can be in certain ways cannot protect Bella, tht's y most pple wld think Edward shld turn Bella into his kind so that Bella can protect herself?!

I believed the script do call for total nakedness but then it will not pass the board of censorship...Anyway, some actors might not want to bare all too often. In bed, yes once a while but in this trilogy, so many transformation and if naked wow we, we can salivate siao... Yes, i already bella is either act blur or what, both guys are so crazy over her. Maybe a good solution is orgy lor... one day time and the other nite time. Just nice. kidding
