snowball
Yahoo! Southeast Asia By Ben Tan#1- The ExorcistAt the top of most lists for scariest movies ever, Linda Blair's turn as a possessed girl in this 1973 shocker is remembered by Jeffrey Oon, Country Editor for Singapore."The spiderwalk, the crucifix, the levitation and the 360-degree headspin are now part of cinematic folklore. The real-life spooky incident surrounding the movie also makes you wonder if the show was really cursed. I've seen the show about 7-8 times and it never fails to creep me out every single time."Alan Soon, Managing Editor, South East Asia agrees, and it tops his list scariest movie of all time. "All that vomit and head spinning from Linda Blair still haunts me till today. It's one of those movies you wish you never saw as a kid."Linda Blair's head spin scene…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qG5V2iBvFs&feature=player_embedded #2- The RingLady in white with untamed hair that covers her face? Check. Eerie sounds and missing reflection in the mirror? Check. Creating an urban legend that made people afraid of answering the phones and watching videotapes? Check."The Ring" is Japan's highest grossing film ever. The plot revolves around A journalist who investigates the mysterious deaths of 4 teenagers, who all died a week after watching a videotape that contains a series of unrelated disturbing images, only to find herself and her estranged family cursed as well."The story is simple, the effects crude, but it leaves a profound impact on the imagination. It casts a malicious aspect to ordinary objects (i.e. the television), and takes advantage of society's susceptible to superstition, such as the power of a curse and how all-consuming vengeance can overcome death. Central to this film's success is the force, largely unseen for the most part of the movie, that strikes down characters and is revealed in chilling form near the end." – Elena Torrijos, Finance Editor.Sadako coming out of the TV in all her gruesome glory…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQm3BV6s0r8&feature=player_embedded
snowball
#3-The Picture of Dorian Gray"The scariest movie I've watched is the 1945 version of ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray', which I always catch on cable TV. Filmed in spooky black & white, Oscar Wilde's 'hero' is a man who stays hauntingly beautiful over several years, and in turn, a portrait of Dorian ages instead. As people around him grow older and become suspicious on why he never ages, Dorian is driven to very desperate and homicidal measures to keep his secret. The portrait gets uglier and uglier with every nasty action Dorian takes. And where does the 'scary' come in? The audience never gets to see Dorian's portrait throughout the movie, just people's horrified reactions every time they see it. At the very end when Dorian's story is concluded do we the viewers get to the titular picture, and it's in shocking, gruesome COLOUR." – Karen Vera, EditorOscar Wilde's only published novel delves into the idea that act of debauchery and hedonism has a lasting effect on one's soul. In an era where many people comment on the "degeneration of our times", this movie is sure to haunt the recesses of your conscience. Watch the trailer for the 2009 remake of "The Picture of Dorian Gray"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eAQWllCHHU&feature=player_embedded#!# 4- Child's Play"The satanic doll that goes on a killing rampage never fails to scare the hell out of me. You will never look at a doll or soft toy the same way again." – Faris MohktarWhat happens when a doll is possessed by a psychopathic serial killer? $!^*( mayhem! From the flaming red hair, to the scar on his porcelain face and twisted grin, Chucky is THE scariest toy ever. He'll kill anyone in his path to repossess a human body, and nothing will stop him.So successful was the movie that it spawned a whole franchise, right up to "Seed of Chucky" in 2004. Word has it that a remake is scheduled for release in 2011.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeIPREBq7Uc&feature=player_embedded
snowball
# 5- The Eye"I see dead people." Ok so this is not about "The Sixth Sense," but rather a lady who, after an eye transplant, gains the ability to see ghosts. What makes this tale that much scarier is the Asian setting, which plays on the audience's mind. I'm a self confessed "scaredy cat" so I don't really watch horror films. The only one that I've watched is "The Eye" in 2002. There was this scene where a ghost was licking the char siew at a wanton noodle store. I never ate char siew again… for about year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPYdK-R4Tyo&feature=player_embeddedWhich horror movie scares you the most?

cadlad
i don't have an all time scariest film on my list, but here are some interesting ones that came to mind: The Imp 凶榜 (1981)cast: 秦祥林Synopsis: a security guard finds people around him mysteriously dying violent deaths. Why scary: whenever i ask people to name me their all time scariest films, this title always pops up. this film has been discussed with so much awe and fear that i haven't found the guts to watch it today. i see its VCD in the lelong bin at stores from time to time, but not to be confused with its sequel/1996 remake. The Returning 等着你回来 (1994)Director: Jacob Cheung Cast: Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Wu Qian Lian, Sandra Ng In a nutshell: A reporter obsessed with a deceased artist moves into her house to better understand her mysterious death. However, the house is haunted by the artist's ghost, which returns to seduce the reporter and torture the reporter’s girlfriend. http://www.lovehkfilm.com/reviews/returning.htmThou Shalt Not Swear 七月十四 (early 90s?) Synopsis: a bunch of kids made a vow to remain friends and meet every year. eventually, they drifted apart and members of the group started dying one by one. Why scary: i only recall that this is the film from which the infamous Long Po 龙婆 character originated. House (aka Hausu) (1977) Synopsis: a group of teenage girls visit one of their aunt's house in the country, and experience bizarre hauntings. oh what the hell, bizarre doesn't even begin to describe it. why scary: it's so wacky and inane that it's best enjoyed as a quirky curio item, but there were a few unexpectedly eerie moments. cadlad
another one that is quite underrated:Dead End (2003) Synopsis: a family on a road trip takes a short cut through the woods and got very lost. Soon they encounter weird incidents and start dying violently one by one. Why scary: the film engages interest very well, the modes of death were rather entertaining/horrifying to watch and i thought it has a really brilliant ending. spoilers here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_End_(2003_film)

Guest TheWhiteSwan
It's more of a psychological thriller with some horror elements, with many things open for interpretation and debate. There's girl on girl action too for people who are turned on by that And a bravura performance by Natalie Portman. Sweet Girl.

Guest J
Just watched this movie on DVD at a friend's place.Utterly overhyped, it's a boring, slow movie with cheap thrills to generate hype. The 2 leads have ZERO chemistry as husband and wife, totally unconvincing. They tried to use Allan Wu and Christy as eye candy but it flopped because of Christy's fake dubbed voice. The most ridiculous of all is Christy pulling Zoe's hands towards her breasts in the tailor shop. Can't believe this movie was so "highly praised" here.Wonder who are behind this campaign to hoodwink people into thinking this film is any good. Guest SCRE4M FAN
So I went to see SCRE4M last night, and my theater experience was awful. There was this guy who through out the whole movie kept screaming really annoying things. He even threw a pen at the screen once. Keep in mind that the theater was packed. There were around 400-450 people. Yet no one was doing anything to stop the guy. So about half way through the film, I stood up, turned to him and said "Hey ass hole, mind keeping it down so we can enjoy the movie?" Everyone in the theater cheered, but then things got bad. The guy got pissed, so he got out of his seat, came down to my row, grabbed me by the shirt and threw me down the theater steps. The worst part was that everyone started laughing....at me. He just threw me down a huge flight of steps and everyone was laughing. He then ran down the steps, made me stand up straight, and then he pulled my pants down. At this point there were tears gushing down my face. I told him "Please stop, I just wanted to watch the movie", but then he started punching me in the stomach. The whole audience wasn't even watching the movie anymore, they were watching this guy beat the crap out of me. One person even yelled "Yeah beat that fag's ass!". Everyone was laughing and cheering this guy on. The guy then told me to give him my wallet and keys. I did so. He asked me what car I had and where I parked. I told him. He asked me my address. I told him. He then told me to walk all the way home with my pants down, and that he would return my car tomorrow morning. As I started waddling out of the theater with my pants down I cried to myself "Why god why? How could you let this happen to me!". So I walked all the way home with my pants down. Then this morning I went outside and my car was in my driveway as promised. My wallet was in the car and so were the keys. There was a note on the windshield that said "Dear loser, don't ever try to stand up for yourself again. You will always be a loser. You will never win. Also, XXXX and XXXXXX were the killers. LOSER". I haven't cried so much. I'm crying just thinking about it. It was the worse theater experience of my life.
