SINGAPORE — When a man recorded intimate videos of himself back in 2018, they were meant to be viewed only by someone he had befriended online.

He was shocked when these videos resurfaced two years later as part of a “catalogue” offered for sale by an anonymous user of social media platform Twitter, which has since changed its name to X.

The Twitter postings were spotted by his friend and brought to his attention. The matter was reported to police.

On Friday, Cai Hongliang, the man running the Twitter account, was sentenced to 10 months’ jail after pleading guilty to one count of possessing more than 260 intimate images or recordings of individuals without their consent.

One charge of selling or transmitting these obscene photos and videos was taken into consideration for the sentencing of the 31-year-old Singaporean.

SINGAPORE – A basketball coach for a secondary school and a junior college exploited four students under his charge and sexually abused the teenage boys, who were then between 13 and 16 years old.

The man took one victim back to his flat on the pretext of conducting “puberty checks”.

He asked another for video calls with the aim of seeing the boy in the nude

Whenever the victim refused, the man suggested he would be dropped from the school team, knowing that the boy was hoping to enrol in junior college through the Direct School Admission scheme based on his sporting talent.

On May 7, the 42-year-old man was sentenced to 19 years’ jail and 24 strokes of the cane by the High Court.

In March 2018, after training, the man asked the first victim, then 13, to go to his Housing Board flat to check on his “puberty stage”. 

The boy, who had previously gone to the flat for a similar check, agreed to go to the flat, but declined to be checked.  

At the flat, the man performed a sexual act on the boy in the bedroom and told the boy to perform oral sex on him.

The boy did not tell anyone about the incident, and left the basketball team in August 2018.

SINGAPORE - A 71-year-old man is expected to be charged over allegedly molesting and insulting the modesty of two male teenagers on public transport on two separate occasions.

 

He allegedly molested and insulted the modesty of an 18-year-old youth on a public bus on May 17, 2023, and did the same to a 15-year-old boy on a train on May 20 the same year. The man is set to be charged with four counts of outrage of modesty and two counts of insulting the modesty of a person.

 

He is among nine men, aged 26 to 71, who are expected to be charged in court on May 6 over their suspected involvement in separate cases of molestation, said the police on May 5 in a press statement.

 

The other cases involve:

• A 68-year-old man who allegedly molested a 43-year-old man on March 30, 2024, at a shop in Marina View. The suspect will be charged with one count of outrage of modesty.
• A 37-year-old man who allegedly molested an 18-year-old woman on Feb 24, 2024, at a beach club in Siloso Beach Walk. He will be charged with two counts of outrage of modesty.
• A 48-year-old man who allegedly molested a 35-year-old woman on Feb 1, 2024, at a bistro in Selegie Road. He will be charged with one count of outrage of modesty.
• A 55-year-old man who allegedly molested a 20-year-old man on Jan 25, 2024, in the lift of a commercial building in Yishun Industrial Street 1. He will be charged with three counts of outrage of modesty. 
• A 49-year-old man who allegedly molested a 46-year-old woman on Dec 14, 2023, at a shop in Upper Cross Street. The man will be charged with two counts of outrage of modesty. 
• A 41-year-old man who allegedly molested a 40-year-old woman on Dec 8, 2023, at a commercial building in Kim Seng Promenade. He will be charged with one count of outrage of modesty.
• A 26-year-old man who allegedly molested a 25-year-old woman on Oct 8, 2023, at the lift lobby of a residential block in Teban Gardens Road. He will be charged with one count of outrage of modesty.
• A 35-year-old man who allegedly molested a 23-year-old woman on a public bus on July 21, 2023. He will be charged with one count of outrage of modesty.

The offence of outrage of modesty carries a jail term of up to three years, a fine, caning, or any combination of such punishments.

 

To raise awareness of outrage of modesty and molestation cases on public transport, the Singapore Police Force’s Public Transport Security Command in November 2023 launched the “police concept train” on the North East Line at HarbourFront MRT station. It ran for four weeks.

 

The train’s six carriages featured cautionary messages on the sides and some floors of their interiors, warning would-be perpetrators against committing such crimes.

 

This was the first of five concept trains to be rolled out by February 2024 in partnership with the Land Transport Authority, National Crime Prevention Council, SBS Transit and SMRT Corporation.

 

The Straits Times has contacted the police for an update on the implementation of the initiative.

 

For four to six weeks each, the other four trains will run on the East-West Line, North-South Line, Circle Line and Downtown Line, ST reported on Nov 2, 2023.

Just adds on to what I often post here:

The younger straight male generation is more offended by approaches of gays.

 

Lesson: Stay in your own turf and avoid any advances to straight guys. 

 

While I surely don't condone what the gay guy did, but I found the straight guy very unforgiving, in particular as they were friends. He could have cut ties with the gay guy after the exposure and not directly run to the police.

It goes to show that, even if the other party is gay, it does not give one the right to molest, make advance, or force your way onto another innocent person.  Regardless if the person just broke off or single, etc.

Never assume that you can get away with doing what you do.

It's basic human rights regardless gay or straight.  

Outrage of modesty can happen to str8 guy to girl and even gay guy to another gay guy.

And one can get charged for such actions.

On the contrary, I find that for sex crimes involving just men, the news reports tend to omit a lot of details, and use vague terms.

Maybe Singaporeans require more teaching on what things are permitted and what exceeds the limit...

 

In many cases it is a sort of shaming people also. Placing the full details of name, profession, age etc into the news reports is already objectionable in other countries.

It is that old type of thinking, but then they want criminals to integrate back into society (quite a contradiction here).

 

Newspapers here always tend to teach and preach.

 

The guys that were caught driving a bicycle with faulty brakes...and got a fine. Such news would never make it to any front page in any other country...

I have never sexually assaulted or molested anyone,  but I have some empathy for Human Nature  ( and I don't believe in "free will",  ha ha ).  I don't understand how this "victim",  allegedly an adult who is not virgin and had a bf previously,  can do such an abominable thing to a person who, until that moment, was a good friend.  A person who thereafter apologized for his act and promised never to repeat it.  I estimate that this action by the "victim" has earned him a truckload of BAD KARMA, which he will have to live with.

SINGAPORE – A police officer who was a supervisor to two full-time national servicemen (NSFs) groped the pair while they were on duty on separate occasions.

Rama Shanker Singh, now 60 years old, targeted his first victim, identified in court documents as V1, in the conference room at the Ang Mo Kio Police Division Headquarters in 2003. V1 is now 42 years old.

He groped the second victim, V2, who is now 38, in a police car some time between 2005 and 2006.

Singh, who was a superintendent when he retired in 2016, was initially handed five molestation charges in January 2023. Four of them were later reduced to that of using criminal force on others.

He pleaded guilty to two of these reduced charges on June 10. Singh also admitted to one count of being in possession of obscene films.

Multiple other charges, including the two remaining counts of using criminal force on others, will be considered during sentencing.

Court documents did not disclose the reasons behind the reduction in the charges.

 

Singh joined the police force in 1984.

He was the chief investigation officer at the investigation branch at Ang Mo Kio Police Division Headquarters from Aug 1, 2002, to Aug 1, 2004.

V1 was posted to the division in 2003 and Singh was his supervisor.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Tay Jia En and Gladys Lim stated in court documents: “Prior to the offence, V1 respected the accused and had a positive view of him... The accused had also offered to support V1 if V1 should choose to sign on to become a police regular.”

Some time in 2003, V1 was told to go to the conference room at the police division to collect some investigation papers.

No one else was around when Singh approached V1 while the younger man was sitting on a chair.

The DPPs said: “The accused... stood behind V1. He proceeded to massage V1’s shoulders while telling V1 that he was attracted to V1. The accused then kissed V1 at the top of V1’s head.”

Singh then touched V1’s private parts and the younger man, who felt shocked and helpless, left the room.

“He did not know how to react as he was being touched by his supervisor. He also did not think that men would be the subject of such offences,” said the prosecution.

In the end, V1 decided not to report the matter to the police as he wanted to complete his NS “smoothly”.

 

The DPPs said that the following year, Singh was deployed to the Operations Department at the police headquarters.

Then, from Sept 1, 2004, to Aug 1, 2012, he was posted to the compliance management division under the Security and Inspectorate Regulatory Department (SIRD) as the head of compliance management.

V2 was deployed to SIRD from 2005 to 2006, the court heard.

On one occasion, he was with Singh in a police car when the older man touched V2’s genitals.

Singh withdrew his hand when the younger man told him to stop, only to repeat the act later during the same ride.

The DPPs told the court: “V2 felt angry and outraged by the accused’s actions but chose to keep quiet as the accused was his supervisor and senior officer.

“After the incidents, V2 felt embarrassed, ashamed and humiliated as he was physically strong yet felt that he allowed the accused to touch him in that manner.”

On Dec 13, 2020, the police received information that Singh had allegedly committed certain “offences” against an NSF, and the retiree was arrested in Buffalo Road eight days later.

Details about the offences and this particular NSF were not disclosed in court documents.

Singh was later investigated for the offences he committed against V1 and V2.

The authorities also seized his mobile phone and two laptop computers. These devices were later found to contain 170 obscene films.

Singh will be sentenced on June 12.

He went jail previously not because of making porn but for breaking the instruction by police to not access his only fans account to withdraw the money etc. He did all those behind the scene ask only fans to reset his password etc. 

 

That's the reason police gave when they jailed him first time. Not because of making obscene material.

SINGAPORE – A male primary-school student care teacher, who got to know an 11-year-old boy from his workplace, sent him lewd messages after the man left the school in 2020.

In 2021, Tristan Teo Hong Xian sent a picture of his genitals to a 13-year-old girl, who was the boy’s schoolmate. He also sent her sexually-charged messages in 2022.

On June 13, Teo, 32, was sentenced to seven weeks’ jail after he pleaded guilty to two counts of sending sexual messages to minors.

He also pleaded guilty to one count of sending the girl an obscene picture.

Deputy Public Prosecutor R. Arvindren told the court that initially the chats were non-sexual. But this changed after Teo left the school in February 2020.

He was chatting with the boy six months later when he asked questions about the boy’s private parts.

Teo later admitted to investigators that he “felt curious and was having a lot of sexual desires”.

The DPP added: “He also admitted to the police that he wanted to hold back his sexual desire but gave in to the temptation.”
