It's hard not to be hold prejudice against the VP. He is held in high regard in the school. His role is to nurture and guide young minds into the right path. Even if assuming the boy was no angel and tried to seduce the VP,  the VP ought to do the right thing by counselling the boy  and offered solutions to his plight. Yet he did the reverse by offering shelter and aid to the boy not to help him but to sexually exploit him. This illicit affair should not even happen in the first place. I hold the VP fully responsible for his actions and he should bear full brunt of the law for his unforgiving actions.

Technically, the judge's role is to look at the case and examine it through the eyes of the law to determine which ones have been broken. In this case, several laws have been broken including sex with underage person, 377A if it comes to that, etc. Hence, even if both parties are willing, as soon as the fact that one party is underage, the law is broken, and the older person is guilty regardless. Ignorance is not an excuse for breaking the law. 

 

There may be a statute of limitations when it comes to sexual crimes. So if the VP hired a really good lawyer, he can get the case thrown out.

I think we are missing the point that the VP is just the legal guardian. It does not mean that he provided financially for the doctor when he was 14. Unless you know for a fact that the VP was financially supporting the teen through medical school, which I cannot find in the article above. It could be that his parents paid the VP a monthly fee for taking care of their child, as in many cases here where guardians are paid to look after foreign students. I had a relative who took care of several foreign students over the years as their legal guardian. The parents pay her a monthly fee in exchange for food, shelter, and someone to keep an eye on their children. 

 

Even if the VP supported the boy financially through school etc. the doctor still needs to put in his share of hard work to get himself through medical school. It is not as if the VP bought him his doctorate. So until more facts are release, we should refrain from making judgements other than what is known.
