The evidence against the VP is indeed very damning. He even made implicit reference to the sex acts himself in his correspondence with the doctor. Sorry, I wouldn't really call the Vice Principal a gay but more a pedophile. You don't approach boys at such an age. If it happened at the age of 16, ok maybe I would have found it fine.

What I did was to buy the print edition to read them  

 

I have, however, two photos which I took of the articles, where the sexual acts are mentioned in considerably more detail than what was reported in the ST and CNA   :

I just wonder if the maid at the Vice Principals house will play a role and her loyalities( if she is the same person for most of the years). She should have observed whether the boy has slept in the Vice Principals bedroom and maybe other evidence. Will she witness against the vice principal?

My Chinese is not very good but thank God the words are not too difficult  

 

I did wonder about the "carnal intercourse" thing also. When I Googled it, I read that the law also refers to oral sex as "carnal intercourse", so that may be what it was referring to.

 

I am not sure if the VP ever penetrated the boy. My guess is that he didn't, as it might be too traumatising, and then he would risk being reported. Probably he chose to restrict the sex acts to oral sex and mutual masturbation, because he was leveraging on the boy's notion that mutual masturbation is normal between guys.

 

But if he did, then none of the media sources mentioned it. From what I read from the Chinese press, the guy said that the sexual abuse comprised of the VP masturbating him and performing oral sex on him (and getting him to do it on the VP!) about once a week. Seems like there was no mention of any penetration or sodomy.

I forgot to add that in the Chinese press, it was mentioned that the guy was asked if the VP's maid or parents were aware of the abuse.

 

He said that it was very unlikely as the VP always did it with the bedroom door closed (presumably locked also) and with the windows shut, since the air-con would be on during those times.

 

That was when the VP's lawyer gave the weak argument that the abuse could not have happened as the boy slept in a different room.  

 

But interestingly, when the guy told the VP's niece about the abuse, the niece believed him, and even encouraged him to report the VP to the police. Kudos to the niece!

I agree with LeanMature. He had his reasons for putting up with the VP's abuses during those years. Whether or not you (abang) feel his reasons are convincing enough for you, try to remember that he was a 14-years-old boy in a foreign country, carrying the hopes of his parents that he would get a good education in S'pore.

They were supposed to have a pre-trial conference on Monday this week.

 

Usually that will decide the court date. The media didn't report on that so maybe reporters were not allowed inside?

 

So likely, the next time this case appears in the news, they will be passing the sentence liao. Maybe around next month we will know. 

 

Anyway, because now there is a criminal offence, even if the doctor doesn't want to proceed with the case, the VP will still face criminal charges.

 

I highly doubt the VP paid the doctor anything because at this stage, it's already a criminal case so it's too late to pay anything now. No point liao.

No. Cos firstly, the VP agreed to pay the doctor compensation. So there was some mutual agreement there.

 

Secondly, when the VP didn't want to pay the $200k, the doctor didn't pursue him for the money. It's not like he kept demanding for the money, splashed red paint on the VP's door, hire people to beat up and harass the VP, etc  

 

The court cannot use the $200k thing to accuse the doctor of extortion cos it's a private agreement between the two parties. Furthermore, the doctor didn't extort in any legal or technical sense:

SINGAPORE - A 71-year-old business development manager, who was in an MRT train after a drinking session, walked up to an American man and asked if he wanted to have sex with him.

Gan Thean Soo turned violent when Mr Joseph Flynn De Marini, 25, said that he was not gay. Gan then hurled vulgarities at the younger man and slapped him on the left side of his face.

The American recorded the incident on video and uploaded it onto Facebook. It went viral.

Gan pleaded guilty on Friday (April 20) to one count each of harassment and assault.

One charge of being a public nuisance will be taken into consideration during sentencing.

The court heard that Mr De Marini boarded the train with a Singaporean friend, Ms Li Zixin, 20, at Chinatown station at around 8.15pm on April 19 last year and they sat opposite Gan in the same carriage.

 

 

Mr De Marini ignored Gan when he noticed that he was staring at him as the train was passing by Farrer Park station.

The elderly man then walked towards the American and told him: ""I like you. I am gay."

Gan also propositioned the young American.

He got angry when Mr De Marini and Ms Li chided him for being rude and started hurling vulgarities at the American.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Charleston Teo said: "The victim throughout this exchange informed the accused that he did not know who he is and repeatedly requested for the accused to leave them alone.

"The victim then informed the accused that he was not gay. The latter however, continued insisting otherwise."

In the video that is about four minutes long, the other passengers could be heard intervening but Gan continued harassing Mr De Marini. One passenger took Gan aside and he admitted that he "drank a lot" earlier that evening.

Gan then approached Mr De Marini again and said: "Can I kiss you? I want to kiss you."

He continued insisting that the American was gay before slapping the left side of the latter's face.

Mr De Marini did not retaliate, the court heard. Another fellow passenger then came forward and took Gan away from him.

DPP Teo told District Judge May Mesenas: "The accused continued insisting that the victim had 'signalled' him and that he was jealous that the victim was touching a woman."

Gan, Mr De Marini and Ms Li later alighted at Serangoon station but via different doors.

The American alerted the police about his ordeal two days later.

Gan is now out on bail of $8,000 and he will be back in court on April 27.

For committing assault, he can be jailed for up to two years and fined up to $5,000
