Almost a year since the incident took place, 71-year-old Gan Thean Soo has pleaded guilty in a Singapore court to one count of assault and harassment and could face a two-year jail term for his bizarre drunken sexual and physical assault of 25-year-old American, Joseph Flynn De Marini on Singapore’s MRT train service.

The incident filmed and posted on Facebook shows Gan begging to be fucked after he accused DeMarini of signalling to him that he was gay.

The court heard that Mr De Marini boarded the train with a Singaporean friend, Ms Li Zixin, 20, at Chinatown station at around 8.15pm on April 19 last year and they sat opposite Gan in the same carriage.

The elderly man then walked towards the American and told him: “I like you. I am gay.”

DeMarini told Gan that he is not gay to Gan before being slapped in the face, it was then other commuters on the train intervened.

SINGAPORE: A former crane operator from Bangladesh was on Tuesday (Jun 5) convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy in a toilet at Toa Payoh Swimming Complex.

Kabir Md Alamgir, 45, was captured on CCTV footage at the swimming complex on Oct 9, 2016. He was rinsing and cleaning his mouth repeatedly at a sink outside the male toilet.

 

The victim had entered the toilet to take a shower after his weekly swimming lesson ended at 5.30pm, the court heard.

The boy cannot be named due to a gag order.

The victim had locked the toilet cubicle’s door when he went in to shower. Kabir knocked on the door and told the boy he had left his key inside. The door was loosely latched, the court heard, and Kabir managed to enter the cubicle without the victim unlocking it.

Kabir claimed he could not find the key. He then decided to “have some fun” with the victim, court documents said. He performed oral sex on the boy, who asked him to stop as he was afraid.

The court heard that Kabir found the victim to have a good physique and paid particular attention to him as they were always at the swimming complex at the same time. 

After Kabir left, the victim cleaned himself thoroughly as he found Kabir’s actions to be “gross and disgusting”, according to court documents. Kabir left the complex without swimming.

When the victim got into his father’s car, he told his family that “a crazy man” had performed oral sex on him and began to cry. His father went to the complex to look for Kabir, but could not find him and took the victim home.

The teen and his father lodged a police report the same day. Kabir was arrested the next day.

KABIR SPOKE TO VICTIM MONTHS BEFORE INCIDENT

The court heard that seven to eight months before the offence, Kabir had initiated a conversation with the victim while they were in the toilet. Kabir, who had been working in Singapore for 19 years, asked the victim how he was, his name and which school he was from. The victim said he responded out of politeness.

The victim also told Kabir that he would go to the complex for swimming lessons every Sunday from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.

Kabir spoke to the victim at least two other times, according to court documents. 

The victim recalled that Kabir was bare-chested each time. Aside from the victim and the lifeguard, Kabir did not speak with anyone else as other boys never spoke to him, court documents said. The conversations between Kabir and the victim took place at a bench outside the shower cubicles within the male toilet.

For sexually assaulting the victim, Kabir faces up to 20 years’ jail, as well as a fine or caning. One other charge of using criminal force with intent to outage modesty was taken into consideration.

On Thursday (June 21), defence counsel Gino Hardial Singh told District Judge Jasvender Kaur that Taufik has several health problems, including minor coronary artery disease and Type 2 diabetes.

 

n asking for a lighter sentence, including a fine, the lawyer added: "This is Taufik's first brush with the law. Prior to this, he served his country for 31 years as a decorated police officer. As a result of his conviction, he has lost his pension."

In February, Judge Kaur found Taufik guilty of six outrage of modesty charges involving the four victims. Taufik, who was acquitted of one molestation charge involving a fifth special constable, was convicted following a six-day trial.

For two of the molestation charges, Mr Singh urged the judge to sentence his client to a maximum of eight months' jail each. He also asked her to impose a fine for the remaining four charges.

 

 

Taufik, now 56, committed the offences between January and September 2015. The married man joined the TP investigation branch in 1998 and became the officer-in-charge of the hit-and-run investigation team five years later. He has been suspended.

 

On Sept 10, 2015, Taufik approached a 21-year-old special constable to complain about the young officer's body odour and said he had some cream that could remove hair from his armpits and groin. Two days later, he invited the young man to his flat and said he would teach him how to use the products.

 

The man was naked in the toilet when Taufik barged in. Nobody else was at home.

Taufik then molested the man while applying the cream.

 

The special constable testified that he felt like "the whole world collapsed on him, so all he did was comply".

Taufik also molested three other special constables at the TP headquarters in Ubi Avenue 3. Between January and July 2015, he placed his right hand around a 24-year-old man's waist, pulling him close.

 

He molested another 21-year-old man between June and July that year by slapping his right buttock. He also outraged a 22-year-old special constable's modesty.

The offences came to light on Sept 16, 2015, when two of the victims shared their stories.They later told an NS probationary inspector about their ordeal.

Offenders convicted of molestation can be jailed for up to two years and fined or caned for each charge. Taufik, who cannot be caned as he is over 50, is now out on bail of $15,000 and is expected to be sentenced on July 2.

SINGAPORE - A Traffic Police (TP) inspector told a 21-year-old special constable that his body odour was giving him a headache and invited him to his flat, where he had some body scrub and hair removal cream that could help him.

Afraid of his superior, he agreed - before being subjected to a molestation that left him feeling "frozen" and "lost".

Mohd Taufik Abu Bakar molested four male subordinates who were serving their full-time national service as special constables.

The married 55-year-old was so brazen that he committed most of his offences at the Traffic Police headquarters in Ubi Avenue 3, a court heard.

After a six-day trial, District Judge Jasvender Kaur convicted Taufik on Monday (Feb 19) of six outrage of modesty charges involving the four men aged between 21 and 24.

She acquitted him of one molestation charge involving a fifth special constable

He committed the offences between January and September 2015.

Taufik, who has since been suspended, joined the TP Investigation Branch in 1998 and became the officer in charge of the Hit and Run Investigation Team five years later.

The court heard that all his victims were seated near his work station during their service.

Taufik molested another 21-year-old man between June and July that year by slapping his right buttock.

The two young men then told an NS probationary inspector about their ordeal.

Delivering her verdict on Monday, Judge Kaur said that Taufik was in a position of authority and that the man, whom he invited home, was afraid of him as he was his superior.

Taufik is now out on bail of $15,000 and will be back in court on March 23.

SINGAPORE - Feeling an overwhelming urge, a father of three young children crept into his tenant's bedroom and performed oral sex on the sleeping man without his consent.

On Wednesday (June 27), former project engineer Waduge Buddhika Upashantha Fernando, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of non-consensual sexual penetration.

The offence took place in a Kim Keat Avenue flat in Toa Payoh, home to the married Singaporean, who is originally from Sri Lanka, and his family. 

His tenant, a 28-year-old Malaysian cook, had lived in the unit for about four months before the incident.

The victim had little interaction with the other members of the household as he was usually out of the flat by 9am and only back at 11pm every day.

On Nov 10 last year, the victim returned to the flat at around 11.30pm and fell asleep in his room about 1½ hours later, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Marshall Lim.

 

 

Fernando returned home at around 3am and was about to head out again to a nearby market when he felt an urge to have sex with another man.

The tenant woke up about 10 minutes later and saw Fernando committing the offence.

DPP Lim said: "The victim yelled and kicked at the accused instinctively... The accused left the room and then left the flat immediately. The victim was shocked and did not know how to react."

The cook then alerted the police about an hour later.

In urging District Judge Kessler Soh to sentence Fernando to at least eight years' jail with four strokes of the cane, DPP Lim said: "This is the place where one can expect to feel safe and secure. When penetrative sexual assault involves landlords and tenants who share the same premises, it will undoubtedly cause grave public disquiet."

Fernando's lawyer, Mr Amolat Singh, pleaded for a five-year jail sentence for his client. He told Judge Soh: "He did not use any violence or any force or any stupefying drug to overcome the victim's resistance or to obliterate his memory.

"There was no moral corruption nor is there any evidence that the victim suffered grave psychological or emotional trauma."

Fernando is now out on bail of $25,000 and will be back in court on July 17. The Straits Times understands that he was married in Sri Lanka in 2008. The couple became Singaporeans in 2013.
