Actually, male-male sex crimes have always been fairly commonplace in S'pore. I remember coming across a lot of them!

Principal allegedly molested seven boys in 2017 at secondary school he headed

SINGAPORE - A male principal allegedly molested seven teenage boys on different occasions in 2017 at the secondary school he was heading.

 

Three of the boys were 13 years old when they were abused, another three were 14 at the time and one was 15.

The school's website showed the man, now 46 years old, is no longer its principal.

 

He was charged in court on Wednesday (June 26) with 11 counts of molestation. The man and the school cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the boys' identities.

 

Court documents did not state if the teenagers were studying there at the time.

 

The accused is said to have molested two of the boys thrice. He allegedly outraged the modesty of one of them in September 2017 by sliding his hands into the 14-year-old's shorts and touching his private parts.

 

He is said to have committed similar acts on the same teenager two more times the following month.

 

The man is also accused of molesting the 15-year-old boy three times in October 2017. He allegedly used his right hand to touch the boy's chest over his shirt pocket early that month.

 

 

On Oct 16 that year, the man allegedly poked the boy's groin with his index finger. He is said to have committed a similar act on the boy again a week late

 

He allegedly molested the remaining five boys once each between August and October 2017 by touching their genitals while in the school.

 

Court documents did not reveal how the offences came to light.

 

The Ministry of Education (MOE) on Wednesday said that the man was no longer employed by the ministry as of Jan 1 last year. 

It added: “MOE takes a serious view of staff misconduct and will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against those who fail to adhere to our standards of conduct and discipline, including dismissal from service.”

The man was offered bail of $15,000 and will be back in court on July 24.

For each count of molesting a boy below 14 years old, offenders can be jailed for up to five years and fined or caned

Secondary school teacher performed oral sex on two male students, watched porn with one

SINGAPORE - A secondary school teacher lured three male students to his home and committed sexual acts on the teenagers, even giving cash to one of them for more than a year so that he would keep mum.

When a fourth student declined to go to his home, the teacher molested him in their school in the northern part of Singapore.

The teenager made a police report and the teacher's offences were uncovered.

The 36-year-old man, who has since been diagnosed with paedophilia, was jailed for 6½ years on Monday (April 22). He pleaded guilty to five counts of performing oral sex on two minors and two counts of making one of them perform a similar act on him.

He also admitted to one count each of molestation and sexually exploiting a child. Nineteen other similar charges were considered during sentencing.

The Straits Times understands that the man is no longer a teacher. He cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the victims' identities.

 

 

The man was the first victim's teacher when the teenager was a Secondary 1 student in 2015. The court heard that the teenager was sent to detention on May 9, 2016, for circulating pornographic pictures in his class' WhatsApp group.

 

The man later spotted the 14-year-old boy in the detention room. Instead of advising the boy to behave himself, he asked the youngster if he wanted to watch pornography together.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amanda Han said: "The accused asked (the boy) to go to his house and, in exchange, (the boy) asked the accused to pay him $50 so that he would not tell anyone that he had been invited to the accused's house to watch pornography together."

The man agreed and the boy went to his home the next day. The man performed oral sex on him and continued to invite him home after this encounter, the court heard.

DPP Han said: "(The boy) would ask the accused to pay him his desired sum before agreeing to show up at the flat. This sum ranged from $50 to $300 and was not fixed, although it was usually around $100... This continued for almost one and a half years.

"While (the boy) was at the flat, he would also remind the accused that he would tell a teacher about their activities if the accused did not pay (him) as agreed."

The man approached his second victim in their school in July 2016 and asked the 13-year-old boy if he wanted to accompany him home to "play games". The child agreed and followed him to his flat.

The man made the boy sit on his lap while they were playing a computer game and he thrusted his body against the boy. The latter felt uncomfortable and left.

In July 2017, the man sent a text message to his third victim and invited the 15-year-old boy to his home without telling him the reasons. The boy complied and they performed sexual acts on each other.

The pair met up again a few days later and performed similar sexual acts.

DPP Han said the teacher asked his fourth victim to go to his home in August 2017, but the 13-year-old boy declined and the teacher later molested him in school.

For each count of sexually penetrating a minor, the man could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined.

Art teacher found guilty of molesting Secondary 2 boy

SINGAPORE - There were other students around, but their presence did not stop an art teacher from molesting one of his male students.

A district court heard on Monday (July 16) that the teacher, now 38, squeezed the right side of the Secondary 2 student's chest and told the 13-year-old boy that he resembled a Japanese pornographic comic character. The man also touched the boy's groin and buttock later that afternoon.

After a nine-day trial, District Judge John Ng found the teacher guilty of three counts of molestation. The man, who taught in a school in the western part of Singapore, cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the boy's identity.

In her submissions, Deputy Public Prosecutor Amanda Chong said that on Feb 17, 2016, the boy was in the school's Art Studio 1 to work on a sculpture.

Sometime after 3pm, the teacher walked over to the boy's table and molested him. At the time, there were other students seated nearby.

Said DPP Chong: "The victim felt uncomfortable as a result of the accused's touching... He wanted to complete the sculpture and go home at the earliest moment possible. He therefore shrugged it off."

 

 

After molesting the boy, the teacher went to the Higher Art Room nearby. At around 4pm to 5pm, the boy carried his sculpture into this room to ask for the teacher's guidance.

 

The man started asking him questions on sensitive topics and said his student's leg hair was "very sexy". He then molested the boy two more times.

Shocked, the teenager did not say anything but used his hand to try and push the teacher's hand away.

The court heard that as the boy walked out of the Higher Art Room, the man asked him: "Why? Too shy?"

When the boy reached home, he told his mother about what happened and she called his form teacher, who alerted the school's management.

The school principal testified in court that she and vice-principal met the art teacher the next day. She said he appeared "shocked and remorseful" and also told her "he knew he was overboard".

During the trial, the boy told the court that he is now more wary of other people, especially teachers, and did not like art as much as before due to the "bad memories" involving the teacher.

DPP Chong said: "He expressed that he was very uncomfortable when in a room with only a teacher as he was concerned the incident may repeat itself."

The court heard during the trial that the man denied molesting the teenager.

The art teacher is represented by lawyers Shashi Nathan, Tania Chin and Marianne Chew. In their closing submissions, they urged Judge Ng to acquit their client.

They added: "There is no reason for (the art teacher) to have risked his livelihood and reputation by committing the charges against him and to essentially lose everything in the process."

The man is out on bail of $15,000 and will be back in court on Aug 14. For each count of molestation, he can be jailed for up to five years and fined or caned.

A Ministry of Education (MOE) spokesman said in response to queries from The Straits Times on Monday that the ministry will be taking disciplinary action against the man, who has been suspended from duty since February 2016.

"MOE takes a serious view of educator misconduct. Educators who fail to comply with our standards of conduct and discipline will be subjected to disciplinary action. In serious cases, they may be dismissed from the service," the spokesman added.

SINGAPORE - A man who claimed his former primary school vice-principal had sexually abused him as a child was "very persistent" in asking for $200,000.

This was purportedly for compensation to settle the matter out of court, the accused's lawyer said on Thursday (March 29).

The alleged victim, now 29, sent the vice-principal more than 20 text messages from Nov 5 to 24, 2015, to get the money.

The 55-year-old educator finally agreed to meet him on Nov 24. But instead of handing over the money, the older man served him with a lawyer's cease-and-desist order, accusing him of extortion.

The younger man made a police report detailing the alleged sexual abuse the next day.

The vice-principal is on trial for three counts of committing an indecent act on a young person and six of having carnal intercourse against the order of nature with the victim when he was a teenager.

 

He has been suspended from his duties. The two men cannot be named due to a gag order.

On Tuesday, the younger man told the court he thought it would be a good idea to settle the matter privately, without involving the police.

But the text messages did not resolve much at first and the alleged victim said on Thursday: "It had dragged on for so long. It was a mental torture."

He said his wife, whom he married in 2016, was the one who suggested the $200,000 sum. He said that asking for a smaller amount would downplay the gravity of the alleged offences.

Defence lawyer T. M. Sinnadurai said his client initially responded to the text messages, albeit briefly, before meeting his accuser.

The alleged victim claimed he was first sexually abused in his school in 2003 when he was 14 years old.

After his Chinese national mother was repatriated for working illegally in Singapore, the vice-principal became his guardian and the alleged victim moved into the older man's flat in Woodlands in late 2004. The alleged victim claimed the sexual abuse continued until 2006 and he moved out in 2013.

He told District Judge Chay Yuen Fatt: "If (the vice-principal) could remove all the bad things he had done to me, he'd be an excellent educator... He'd have no flaws."

The alleged victim also took time in court to explain that he relied on a combination of his mother's financial contributions, bursaries and loans to put himself through school right up to his university graduation.

And during his time in the Woodlands flat, he said he paid $300 in rent monthly to the household which included the educator's parents and a maid.

After moving out, he stayed with his future wife's family and in 2015, purchased a condominium unit for $525,000. He told the court he had to borrow $120,000 from his mother for the down payment and now pays the monthly mortgage through a combination of his monthly salary and CPF contribution.

The case has been adjourned for a pre-trial conference on April 9.

The point is probably, whether there is evidence to support the "abuse" while the young man was a minor.

If no sufficient evidence, then no prosecution/ charge.

‘Sexual predator’ gets jail and caning for preying on 5 boys

SINGAPORE — For what a district judge called “deceptive and disgraceful” behaviour, a 26-year-old man who sexually exploited several young boys was sentenced to four years and three months’ jail and six strokes of the cane on Tuesday (July 9).

Muhammad Arif Mohamad committed his offences from 2015 to 2017. His five victims, who were aged between 12 and 14 at the time, cannot be named to protect their identities.

In one instance, the delivery assistant told a 13-year-old that he wanted to demonstrate how a doctor performs circumcision. He then pulled the boy’s jeans and underwear down and groped him for several minutes, causing the boy to cry.

It was not stated in court how Arif was eventually apprehended.

He pleaded guilty on Tuesday to eight charges of committing or attempting to commit obscene acts with a child, and using criminal force to molest a minor. Another 13 similar charges were taken into consideration for sentencing.

Before sentencing Arif, District Judge Mathew Joseph lambasted his actions, describing it as an “egregious case” and agreeing with the prosecution that he was a sexual predator.

“These were young victims, young and vulnerable — you were quite devious in the way you lured them with rewards, and this showed also a certain cunning streak in you. Some of these acts were prolonged... Your victims would have been quite terrified,” the judge added.

MOLESTED AT MCDONALD’S

The court heard that Arif got to know a 13-year-old victim, who is now 17, through Facebook sometime in 2014. He also helped the teenager’s mother by delivering products to her customers.

The teen’s parents sometimes asked Arif to look after their son when no one was home, as they trusted him.

On the evening of Feb 13, 2015, the victim’s father asked him to walk Arif to a bus stop. When they were at the void deck of their block of flats, Arif told the victim to remove his jeans and said he wanted to demonstrate how a doctor performs circumcision.

He ignored the victim’s refusal and molested him, then apologised when the victim started crying. The teen did not tell his parents about what happened as he was scared.

Sometime in the middle of 2016, Arif met another boy at a McDonald’s outlet and slid his hand into the 12-year-old’s pants when he was sleeping, touching the boy’s private parts. Alarmed, he pushed Arif’s hands away and moved away.

Court documents showed that in 2016, Arif molested a 14-year-old boy — also at a McDonald’s outlet — by touching him on his chest and attempting to touch his private parts.

TOOK A VICTIM TO HIS HOME

Arif gradually escalated his acts from then on.

He met another 14-year-old boy sometime in December 2016, when the boy was out swimming with three friends. Arif was acquainted with his friends and joined them.

Arif treated him to a McDonald’s meal one day that month at VivoCity mall, before they went to Arif’s home in Marsiling at about 5pm. The boy agreed to go over as he thought he “would be able to have fun watching movies and playing games”, said Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Zhou Yihong.

While they were alone, Arif took the boy to his room where they talked. He then asked the boy to lie down, hugged him, kissed his face, and touched his crotch.

When the boy grew uncomfortable and asked to play with Arif’s phone, Arif performed a sex act on him. The boy covered his face with his T-shirt after Arif told him not to be scared.

He then took the boy to Woodlands Interchange and gave him S$0.64 to take a bus home.

Later that month, he molested the same boy in a movie theatre by rubbing his private parts for about half an hour. On a separate occasion, he unsuccesfully tried to get the boy to perform a sex act on him by giving him a pack of cigarettes and a phone.

Arif’s last victim also regularly hung out with him at various McDonald’s outlets. They got to know each other through Facebook, and Arif treated the 13-year-old to cigarettes, LAN gaming sessions and food.

Arif touched his private parts on two occasions while they were at East Coast Park in March 2017. One incident happened at about 3am, while another happened at about 10.30pm.

When the boy asked him why he did that, Arif kept silent.

The next month, Arif molested him again in a movie theatre one afternoon.

DPP Zhou noted that the victim whom Arif took advantage of in his home was “subjected to a high level of sexual exploitation”. There was “sustained and prolonged skin-on-skin contact”, she added.

Arif’s lawyer, Mr Srijit Jeshua Shashedaran, asked for a slightly lower sentence of about 45 to 48 months’ jail. He told the court that Arif had fully co-operated with police investigations and was himself sexually assaulted when he was 13 years old.

However, the prosecutor responded that Arif had not been found to suffer from any mental illness.

For committing an obscene act with a child, he could have been jailed up to five years, fined up to S$10,000, or both.

For using criminal force to molest a minor under 14, he could have been jailed up to five years, caned, fined, or any combination of the three.
