It is very safe to visit a sauna alone, for the first time.   Even very vulnerable gays don't get assaulted.  But some guys interested in you can become quite insistent,  and it helps to have the character to be able to discourage them.  In the anonymity of the dark maze some can be borderline abusive, but some strong rejection will keep them at bay.  I never had a bad experience and seldom saw conflicts,  but if necessary, one can always get loud and call attention.
