It's because inside the dark maze corridor area or inside the dark room.. the lights are usually placed below and dim so can only see other people's face around 30 to 40%.

 

But inside the cubicle/rooms, the lights are usually placed above and slightly brighter.. hence can see more clearly around 70/80% of the face.

Went here for the first time today as a 20 year old guy, was kinda surprised at the crowd at first but slowly got comfortable. Honestly just spent time exploring naked, was an experience.
