Yup, i usually dont go there to swim. It's just specifically because of the physical slot... Going in 9-11 slot

Nice. Actually how does it work? I seen it posting yearly but never really understood how the event works? How many laps must you swim and is there an assigned person to clock your timing etc? Also notice something about having to get to all the Safra pools to clock the laps? Is it within the same day? Sorry never enter such event so completely lost how it works?

Been swimming at TPY safra more often since activesg are mostly used for trainings during the peak hours. Was told that people do tan in thongs during the off peak periods - anyone care to verify? However I do think that the lifeguards are slightly more liberal with the swimwear choices there :D

Anyway, Sun (29 Sep) around 1pm - red arena large built, wearing addicted underwear. hi!

To the cute fit guy in blue trunks who came to the tpy pool at about same time as me about 1.30pm today and swam beside me briefly, hope to reconnect with you again. We met again in the showers after but there were many others around who wanted to cruise you haha :)

This is based on my understanding, though I chose 'virtual' (I clock my mileage at my own time, own pace):

For participants who chose 'physical' or 'hybrid', it means they book a preferred date to swim at any of the SAFRA clubhouses. Hence, the pool closure on certain days is meant for them.

For number of laps, that depends on the distance you've selected. For 'physical', I think you've to swim the entire distance on that date you booked. I'm not sure if there's someone to clock your timing.

This is from the Swim4Hope website FAQs:

For participants who opted for physical or hybrid options, they will need to complete their registered distances or the last 1 km of their swim at the SAFRA swimming pool and slot that they have selected.

@JYAG-sim Thanks but still as blur. Let say for your virtual, what does that means. Sorry just don’t understand all this new modern ways of doing things virtual etc. So how do you keep track and let them know your results? Perhaps if you don’t mind me to PM, u would like to understand more in this area. TYVM.

haha it's more or less a glorified pool reservation for whoever who booked the physical slot via the website as well. Just that there are staff there to make it an official event. There's no lap tracking per se, you just need to count on your own and submit your distance at the counter once you're done. I think the max you can clock per session is 1km.

Any idea if Safra MF 1 lap equal 50m?

A matter of timing and luck 😏

anyway let me digress and rant. Don’t understand those who have to do their shaving in public showers? 🫤 (and almost weekly)

Or those ladies wearing swimming cap with long hair all sticking out? 🤭 (so what is the cap for?)

and back to topic

I think I saw Safra TPY close Sat for Swim for hope. I only had a quick glance as running late to finish my laps before the rain. Please verify before going down this weekend.

Thx to Jyag and your explanation I did a last min sign up on the last day for the virtual 15km. So won’t be there for the Sat event. Since was my first such activities and fearing the weather may prevent me from completing, I had used my typically kiasu mentality and did 2km each day. So already completed 😉 way ahead of my target. Regretting I didn’t opt for the 55km instead 🤭 . Let’s see how next year if I can still maintain.

@Dashy_Boy enjoy yr swim tmr and best of luck. 🤞 😉

Wow luckily did virtual and not physical swim. Participants at the TYP physical swim now are young and super fit sia. 4-5 person squeezing in 1 lap. Shiong 😂 and stress 😬

haha ok la, was quite organized i feel

Looks chaotic to me. Was there at 11am. Lots of kids in the first few lanes on the left. Checked with the guy on duty at the gantry and he said only right 3 lane for the laps swim. 3rd lane for slower swimmer. Each lane has got 4-5 swimmers.

In contrast when I swim other days, max 2 person per lane.

@Dashy_Boy as long as you have a good swim doesn't matter thou.

The FIN school or swimsafer training is ongoing. I guess priority is still given to higher-paying classes for pool usage.

Yeah, the event staff were at the counter. They did mention it was four lanes, though. Each lane will have only one direction, and a pair of lanes will be for slower traffic, while the other will be for faster traffic. So I thought splitting the swim speed (kinda) and allowing only 1 flow of direction per lane was quite organized in that sense. I did some overtaking, so it was still not the smoothest.

Having each lane with 4-5 swimmers does mean that the event is doing well? And having low utilization rate of pool may lead to lower maintenance in the long run I think. Anyway I don't think we can control the amount of people that want to join. We can only see how with this many people joining, and the organizer responding to it. I thought this aspect was quite decent. Not really sure what other reasonable things they could have done to improve the swim flow.

You were comparing with another Saturday 11am crowd? Because whenever I swim on weekday evenings it is tough to squeeze with 4 others going in opposite direction.

@Dashy_Boy totally understand the part on maximising usage and higher payers priorities 😉 thou I always rant about kids classes, I do give way to them and make alternative time slots for myself. My time had passed and if these kiddo don’t get trained how else will they get better.

Thanks for your explanation, now it make more sense to me. I only stood watch at the entry and chatted with the entry guard. Misunderstood him, didn’t realise using only one direction flow for each lane.

I occasionally swim at Typ but weekday aft 2pm. So far my encounter, it’s always max of 2 people per lane. And mostly we stick to our own side within the lane. Only last Wed, this guy was going in circle, as he was in the lane first so I naturally took his lead and swim in circle with him.

Most of us doing laps and sharing lane know the difficulties. Overtaking would require more strength especially if the person we overtaking doesn’t slow down for you bypass. There is also the risk of kicking someone who tailed behind too closely when we turn.

you are also right that things were well organised, I was there today just to pick up the goodies bag and they were very fast and efficient. Hope the rain haven’t dampen the joy of the swim today.
