When a person complains of having a skin condition, I think it is common for doctors to touch your skin to examine the surface. I think the doctor is trying to make small talk when he asked if you o to gym etc, so there is nothing wrong with that.

I was just to the National Skin Clinic. Being 50 yrs of age and a European with light skin, I've never had anyone check my moles if they could be cancerous or maybe at risk of turning cancerous.
