GachiMuchi Posted August 14, 2012 Report Share Posted August 14, 2012 (edited) Was invited by Shogun's boss; Vincent for a preview of his newly renovated sauna Shogun.Entrance & First Floor AreaThe entrance to Shogun has changed, the counter is much smaller. The lockers are still on the 1st floor. The TV area on the first floor has shrunk and a separate room was build next to the TV area. The room acts as a resting area as well as a play area.Next to the lockers, the formal dark maze with it's glory holes have been renovated into 4 small rooms and 3 glory holes booth. Walking thru the small rooms leads to a little gym area, where there are some free weights, a treadmill machine, a vibrating machine that can help one lose weight and 2 cycle machines. The gym room is fixed with a TV for those who wants to gym and watch TV at the same time.The smoking room remains, but right now, the shower area have been moved to where the former sink and drinking stall are. Which means those in the smoking room can catch glimpse of those in the shower thru a gap in the shower walls, or simply watch TV thru the glass panel separating the gym and the seating area.The formal shower area at the back have been replaced by tap washing points as the potted plants & shades have been removed. The toilets and shower area leading the the steam room also have been renovated and some minor changes to the door leading to the steam room.Top Floor AreaThe top floor now has a porch and veranda where one can rest and enjoy a cool evening or maybe a good sun tan. The TV room have been converted to include a drink & food counter. The TV room has shrunk but now more cosy.The are 4 rooms on the top floor. The big play room stays but gone are the steps. Some reno on to the toilet and shower area.Overall, the place is smaller after the reno, but more cosy and many things are new. So for those who are looking for a new change, it's same but different.Shogun should be opening within the next few days based on what I was told. The space are better used. reminds me of saunas in Hong Kong - small but functional. The Japanese theme is executed much better compared to when its 1st opened in Chinatown. Tatami rooms(in varying sizes) are well-located, very much like 17 in 2001. More conducive to cruising? Personally, I like this better than before. Today I managed to see no more than 3 people at a time out there and they were smoking so it turned me off being there. To get to the dark room you have to walk past those people watching tv and disturb them. Not ideal for me. And a small dead end cruising area with a few rooms where there was no-one each time I went there to check it out.The out door showers are a nice improvement on the old showers though.The bar - just a way to make more money out of customers. Oh yeah......who has pockets to carry money upstairs with them??? Also the bar is right in front of the tv......poor planning.DownstairsNice showers and like the shower heads with lights. Toilet area is good but putting urinals there encourages people with poor aim to splash all over the floor where people walk by to go to the steam room.Gym room was far too cold, as was all of downstairs. It was the main reason my friend and I left. Far too cold.The downstairs cruising area felt like a catwalk or an airport runway! So open and not much chance for privacy. Just one straight line. It needs some twists and turns for a more intimate feel.And the biggest disappointment - the glory holes. What kind of idiot puts glory holes in a wall that's 4 inches (10cm) thick? Common sense tells you that the average Singaporean c**k isn't much longer than that, so a hole that size in a wall so thick will leave a lot of guys feeling very red faced. Also, the glory holes cubicles have no sense of privacy about them. I felt that there were many guys there wanting to use them but embarrassed to because the cubicles are now in such an exposed area of the whole sauna. Before the arrangement was quite anonymous. many guys are embarrassed to have others know that they like to suck c**k. And the lighting......way too bright! It needs to be much more subtle.I can see how many guys would be pleased with the renovation as it does look great and everything is clean and fresh. I just think that it's change in the wrong direction for many of the customers. Lots of money spent on great cosmetic and hygienic improvements, but so little thought into design and the practicalities. The entry fee at $12 is still very reasonable.Two thumbs up for the quality of the renovation, but two thumbs down for the new design and the facilities. Sorry Shogun, but you've lost me as a customer.I know that my opinion is different to that of many others, but it is just that, my opinion. Please feel free to disagree with me. So he would be buying the 10 visits pass for $98 which means $9.80 per visit. There is just this short corridor (+ a couple of bigger dark rooms) where everyone gathers.Its nice to have an outdoor area but this is really overdoing it. So big for what?? Waste alot of valuable space where it could be created as a mega maze. I read a previous post about it being like a Thai resort so I really had high expectations of it. Sorry guys, u better dump that idea of it being a "resort", it is FAR from it, more like a poor cousin of east coast chalet.I will rather pay the current price for the previous Shogun.
