This is so hilarious!..

I even saw a gay video of a couple from taiwan F**king with this song at the background.

This is so techno (电音).. apparently.. the big headed puppet will be coming to SG for this Year Chingay parade..

The famous taiwan's 电音三太子!!

Ohh..the last guy in the utube is soo cute!!!

Looks like MTV gets some inspiration from the Korean all girls singing group and the 2nd MTV from Cher ( I believed MTV). Overall, very funny and catchy tunes. Very nice especially in Hokkien (my favourite). Can most likely hear this during CNY or chinatown...

this song is a ripped off from one of my fav Korean girl group T-ara - Bo Beep Bo Beep

I would definitely choose the Korean MV over the Taiwan version as there were 6 pretty young things and there were sex scenes inside the MV, which under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (Korea), the music video has been marked with an age rating of 19+. :P

BUT i have to give it to the Taiwan for smartly syncing the otherwise meaningless Bo Beep to the much more auspicious 保庇 and drummed up the B-grade factors eg the dance and the 电音三太子.

I love this commercial. Plus the guy is very cute and charming. Lovely and adorable face. I am falling in love.

However, I do find that it portrays a rather unrealistic and unlikely scenario of what our Singaporean teachers are capable of. Its cash over compassion for the majority. This day and age, who goes into teaching with the purpose of molding the young minds of our country's future leaders? It seems the stable and unbreakable rice bowl would be more of the carrot on the stick.

I guess the carrot is probably very enticing for the new graduates who join the teaching force. But, like any profession, ultimately it is those who are committed and passionate about education who will stay on. Of course, there will be still be others who stay for other reasons but I am optimistic that these are the minorities.

Guest depends

Agree that the ad is well made and touching/warming.

But as gummibear said it, it would be quite unrealistic for any secondary class teacher(s).

Just think how many classes one secondary teacher would have, and multiply this type of scenario by a few more, how would the teacher have that luxury of time? (think of just ONE normal technical class, there would probably have quite a few such cases...)

And usually after teaching hours each day, it would be already be in the afternoon (or even late afternoon), what about other admin duties, remedial or supplementary lessons, going on course, dept meetings/contact time, meeting parents of problematic students, etc, etc, and the list still goes on...

Even those who are committed and passionate, usually they would burn-out before their bond end?

*SIGH*... MOE/principals just don't understand... :(

Wow. The advertisement is overly long (like all other government driven advertisements with some message like family or education etc) and quite unrealistic. Plus in reality it's hard for a starting teacher to really care so much for a student when they can hardly earn enough to get by well for their families.

I guess the only thing to like is the really cute guy in the advertisement. So adorable!

teacher pay is not miserable. Fresh grad probably 3k to a ceiling of about 6-8k. the commercial is try entice people who wants to make a difference. a passion. a calling.

knowing that a teacher pay will never be comparable to lawyer or banker etc, the commercial is emphasizing that the intangible rewards of a teacher is far better than the $$$ that u can make.

some say unrealistic. but i beg to differ. not everyone is motivated by $$$. some think it's more important to have live a meaningful and purposeful life than be filthy rich with no soul.

ah.. that's enlightening.

The commercial is amazingly......movie like......but i really doubt it will happen unless a teacher now becomes a social worker......

When a teacher too close to a student people talks and the risk is also high because kids these days u know......later they say u molest them , even if u didn't the trauma is not something everyone can tahan.

But when I was in Pre-U my maths teacher really put in a lot of effort on me, I do miss her :D but somehow I never thought of asking her out for dinner becos it's just weird lol

I think this advertisement is beautifully shot. And very moving. In every industry there are people who are truly passionate and there are those who just do what is required of their usual job scope. Teachers sometimes play the role of a guardian angel, apart from being an educator.

School days were too long ago but I remembered my form teacher sat me down to talk, after observing me that I was under-performing and depressed for a long period of time. All he said was that life is full of ups and downs and sometimes it is all right to talk to someone. I did not open up but I know that was just enough for me to know that someone cared.

No doubt the current educational system and its requirement put a lot of stress on educators, but I am sure there are many good ones who will go the extra mile to shape a young person's future and world view positively.

teacher are strict in the past but are all sincere to let us excel in our studies and morally.

most teacher nowadays do not have such passion mainly due to parents are too protective and do not wish school to interfere in educating their child apart from teaching them academically.

it is difficult for school to work with parents to educate the children when they are too protective. such scenario in this commercial are rare or no more now.

Yes, in yester years, only those love teaching became teachers. Now with the govt implementing grading schemes, most of them starts to play politics just to get into the good books of the Principal inorder to get better grading. Also the older teachers are more or less unwanted..etc So nowadays you can see most teachers that are young but can speak very well and play the game...etc quite sad this is happening.

Maybe MOE realises it and starts to have this kind of A&P to send the right message across...but I doubt this will really help.

PS. Having said that, i still think there are some great teachers around - but a handful..

If I have such a cute student, I will bring him out of dinner and text him everyday.

typical . . . a relatively intelligent well-discussed thread . . . only to be marred by some imbecilic pruerile idiotic juvenile comments from someone who really have nothing to say but must say something anyway . . .

This commercial is definitely one of the contenders for Viewers' Choice Award 2011.

Very beautifully shot and moving. We all know for the fact that many things may not be practiced and preached in real situations, but if u look at the commercial from a different angle, there are hints of other messages which we can weave into our lives - and perhaps learn from it.

1) The gambling scenes and loan shark scribbles - a gist of Problem Gambling which is quite rampant in modern Singapore.

2) The undying text messages the boy receives from his teacher - a reminder that amidst all our tribulations, there is always someone out there who plays the guardian angel. One is definitely not alone...

3) The boy returning the dinner treat to his teacher - looking at it from the context of a family nucleus, the children of the future must learn the importance of filial piety.

This video is really a sentimental, soft fiction.

Some parts are so fake.

1. Man walks into school and strolls along classrooms without being stopped.

2. Mrs Chong looks so spa-ed all the time and doesn't seem to age. Many in their 2nd year of full-time teaching wither like month old vegetables or sound beleageured. There are some who have it easy; returning scholars or well connected offspring of elites who sail through all the promotion exercises who have better things to do like planning their next Cordon Bleu holiday because Uncle Tan did it last spring, rather than have time to care for students and bring them out for dinner.

3. Boy has perfect K-pop star complexion and looks gorgeous despite working in grimy, greasy places. In reality, many who work part-time have a lot of physical stress and it shows.

4. Boy has no tantrums or temper; just "I am so tired." and in perfect grammatical district 9/10 English.

5. Classroom is so calm, tidy and classmates are so quiet and studious.

6. Score of 29/100 is nothing compared to real cases of ZERO.

7. You add on

The parts which are believable

1. boy works because of gambling debts, thanks to the two casinos who are raking in big money at the expense of broken families and their business fully supported by the very people that are tasked with protecting the community

2. sells DVDs - 3/4 men in blue versus 1 young boy. No scuffle.

3. Ministry standard video conceptualised and approved by scholars and elites who hardly or never had to face the full brunt of a typical neighbourhood classroom.

i would prefer the teacher's husband anytime :P

coming back, like any video of this nature, it was made to feel good. Looking it at prospective, all ads are made to do so, for example would you expect your hair to swing in slow mo after using certain brand of shampoo?

like any profession, there are good teachers as there are bad ones. I have met a few that made an impact in my study years. while they might not have gone to that extreme of following up, their words and gestures of encouragement did push me to study harder.

I have a teacher still in the same primary school after 60 years of teaching, and is still teaching now, she had made a great impact on me too, why can't this sort of case be true?, well it happened to me before, i got quite alot of U grades for primary school, but because of that teacher, i still got into SMU. Why not?

I'm happy because I learnt to be contented. Black & White life with surprising rainbows sometimes. ;)

I had under-performing teachers too. There was a physics teacher who liked to scribble tiny words on the blackboard (black ones) and mumble when teaching. Once I stood up and told him that it was impossible to read his doctor wannabe writing on the board and he tried to make it more legible. His attempt lasted only 5 min and he went back to ants crawling font. The result, half the class funked the examination. lol... me included. But ya, there are some really good and knowledgeable ones who go beyond textbooks teaching and bring in other interesting facts and activities into the lessons. Personally, I think some career switched teachers do better as they bring with themselves experiences from non academic fields.

I find the video quite believable actually.

1. I suppose he cleared a security check, granted that all schools do and he drove a car into the school & definitely was spotted but I figured that the advertisers realized that the general viewers are intelligent enough to know that this is an advert and the filming of him getting a security check (check IC etc etc) is totally irrelevant. As to why he wasn't stopped, a possible 'solution' is that it's after school hours already! No students along corridors or lessons carrying on etc. And he said 'It's time for our DINNER'. Schools are generally quite quiet by then.

2. As for how a person looks during teaching, it depends on the person. I've teachers that look the SAME from my first day in secondary school till the last day of secondary school. Some of them get even prettier or more handsome as time goes by and of course, there are also some that get prunified in the 3 months of an upcoming national exam ( O/A Levels etc ).

3. For facial complexion, same thing as 2. Some are just seemingly immune to the all-so-frustrating acne that strikes during the teenage years and others just get plagued by it. It's your life. For physical stress, note that the poor dude was sleeping in class.

4. I believe when someone is truly tired, you won't have the mood or energy to throw a tantrum or be in a bad mood. Rather, you feel helpless and just wanna sit there and hope. Perfect grammatical English might hint that the boy is actually smart but life circumstances has not been in his favour thus far.

5. The class there stated 3E1. I'm not sure about other schools but in the secondary school I went to, the E in 3E1 denotes 'Express Stream' and the 1 suggests a triple/double pure science class aka the guai kia class. Not uncommon to see them hard at work and studying. Seriously...

6. Assuming Edwin was really in a top tier class, 29/100 would be a rather poor grade to have, and what makes you think the teacher doesn't care about 0/100s.

About this video being 'Ministry standard video conceptualised and approved by scholars and elites who hardly or never had to face the full brunt of a typical neighbourhood classroom.', I have nothing to say other than to truly able to portray an emotion or an idea in a video, you must know what it feels like. That's why the most moving and thought-inducing films/adverts, are those that came from people who experienced such feelings first hand.

Personal Experience - I've had the fortune of having numerous caring and dedicated teachers. Yes, I know some of them under-perform and do all sorts of crazy stuff that makes the students wanna tear their hair out and I've also known teachers like 'Mrs Chong' who simply go all the way beyond to care for their students. I know teachers who have after school group tuition (for the weaker students) after school ends at her house, followed by a nice dinner that she cooks while we do some assigned work and she'll go through the work after dinner. Or we'll simply head to some kopitiam if she's tired but the most amazing part is that committed teachers -be it under or over-performing- try their very best to provide for their students and it's something that I immensely respect them for. And I believe that MOE took the right step forward in making a advertisement that is WAY more believable than the older classroom scene where dinosaurs start coming to life. That old ad was crap, sorry but I can't say the same for this one.

During my era in the early 60s, yes the scene in this video is quite valid. I have seen teachers with this kind of dedication even invited us to her house and very caring. However, this may not happen now (even if it does, it is less than 1%). Most young teachers are more focus on how to "curry flavour" their HODs & abve inorder to get promotion or bonuses. I know of some existing older teachers (who are very dedicated and straight forward) that are being condemned because they are too honest and speak their mind. This is the current sad situation. The teaching sector is fast becoming like a political ground in the private sectors ( you pull your colleagues down inorder to climb up).

In my good old years as student, a good teacher is very important and he/she has a big impact on your studies (unfortunately, during my era, i found only the female teachers more caring and dedicated). When I was in secondary school, in one of the year, I failed because i had a lousy form teacher and as a result, I refused to study because she doesn't know how to teach and always make us stand for no reason (just because she was moody on that day). Unfortunately, she was moody most of the time throughout the year. She failed to teach us the complete syllabus (unfortunately for us, the exam questions were set by another class teacher) and as a result more than 80% of our class failed the examination. Funny thing is that we don't know how to complain and the school doesn't even question her?? Now parents are different and will immediately lodge a complain.

So if you asked me, the scene in the video is highly possible in decades ago but now? I thin not very likely. if yes, so far i have yet to see one.

I agree with what 'Troller Detected' said at large.

Lots of nitty gritty details cant be addressed as this is essentially a TVC, not a TV serial nor a telemovie.

Eg. u dont see the characters brushing their teeths, going to toilet to shit etc.

If one wishes to nitpick, there are thousand and one other things to pick.

This short essay does have its meaning. Sometimes you will find yourself under that situations. I have been to that stage.

For those who find it meaningless or bored, this is because you have not reached that life stages. I should say you are fortunate. Do treasure your present stage, as you will never go back to the young days...
