Trim Tummy And Hopefully Get Six Pack

Wanted to trim the tummy and working out at least 3x to 4x a week which includes running (cardio) and weight training with varied ab movements. Also bought compression wear like male 'girdle' in hopes to keep the tummy trim and perhaps one day squeeze some sort of six pack out. Not sure how long it takes and whether possible for me who is coming to 40. Also planning to pick up roller blading/inline skating to help in posture and tummy trimming while knowing more friends.

Anyone have any good advice on trimming the tummy and perhaps a few tips to squeeze that six pack out (know that body fat have to be damn low)?

It is an unfortunate reality that as we get older, it is harder to maintain that body.

Besides cardio and abs workout, the other thing is to watch what you eat.

Low fat/carb diet, blah...

Also switch your cardio routine, i.e. running, spinning, rope jump etc.

Quite true as we get older ... picking up inline skating as another cardio ... of course after I know how I can push myself forward on the skates, I can only live with running, swimming and gymming at the moment. Cutting fat is tough ... but guess I have to do it if I want trimmer tummy ... increasing protein helps?

Thanks Tookidooki (interesting nick). The site has some good info. Think I need to trim tummy and at the same time bulk up the muscles elsewhere but don't think possible. Watching what I eat will be tough but will work on it. Fortunately I don't really take much alcohol except once in a blue blue moon if someone 'jeo' me for clubbing. There is a sign up for something though ...

Go on a low-carb diet.Cut sugar,rice,breads,noodles,desserts,e.t.c.

Carbs cause fat storage,not fat,not protein.

I'd like to hear someone refute me on the dangers of a high fat/protein diet other than the rubbish the media stuffs us regularly with.

Sorry to disappoint you, DoingMoar, but I'm here to support your statement, which i have bolded. :P

Protein is essential to build muscle cells, so you can't run away from it. Fats are equally important to form the membranes of cells to retain the water and protein content of cells. Without fats, your cells won't stay in place.

Latest nutritional research has already proven excessive carb intake leads to a lot of chronic illness problems, particulary in Asia, where rice and breads rule as staples. Apparently, the Ministries of Health of various countries are completely outdated on such information.

Losing fat is not that tough for those above 40. One big no no is alcohol and cigarettes because they do funny things to retard your metabolic rate and cause disruptions to your sleep patterns. When you run (whether on the tread mill or tracks), it should be longer than 40 mins non-stop. The reason is that only at 40 mins (speed of 5.5 above) can trigger your fat burning mechanism. Anything less will be a waste of your time and energy. Try to take L-Arginine from Holland and Barrett.Couple this with L-Lysine. This stuff helps to produce more Nitric Oxide which is the chemicals that dilates and sends more blood into all parts of your body - it is a great amino acid to assist burning fat and reduce cholestrol. L-lysine helps to build protein and repairs any damage to old muscles when gymming too hard.

That is good advice for people like me who is reaching 40. But 40mins of running at slow speed? Wow, a bit like marathon run. This would be good to do in parks where the tracks are longer and motivate me to run further.

Just let your body produce them after you take L arginine. It is a more natural process that way. I have never tried combination amino because so far my L lysine and L arginine works very well for me in keeping my metabolic rate fast so I dun retain fat easily. But with these 2, u also have to train weights to get the trimmed bod. L lysine also makes me not so tired and fatigue easily. So more energy for work and play. I am a playful guy, in life and in bed, so i need lotsa energy and hates lethargy....

Well, this week I tried interval running and also eating less carbo for din ... seems to help a bit ... I think gonna combine with compression clothes and see how far it goes ... so far I should say my weight had not gain for a long time other then that small tummy there which could be redistributed elsewhere ... :P

What I d is jogging for straight 7 days a week in the beginning, abt 2-6 rds in stadium. Then slowing increase to 10, 15, finally 20 rounds & decrease to jog every alternate day. My weight drop from 70 to 58kg. Of course during this period no fried, oily & junk food. Rest early every night like sleep at 10pm. My waist drop from 33 inch to 29 inch but look too skinny. So the days when i m not jogging, I started to do dumbell exercises & situps to build my muscles & 6 pacs. I m doing this for almost 1.5 years liao & I gain muscle weight to 61kg. but my 6 pacs is still not very obvious. Friends advised me to head for the gym which I plan to do. Perseverance is the key & jia you.

Wow, that seems like lots of running though slowly increasing ... But how tall are you as the waist drop quite a lot ... I am 183 and 71kg with waist around 31in .... think I can gain a bit more but tummy will be one that grows first ... he he

I agree on sleeping early and I am trying to have more rest especially after exercising.

I agree on sleeping early and I am trying to have more rest especially after exercising.

That's good to here that you have positive results. I hope I will be able to have slimmer abs .. can't think of 6pack yet ... just did short interval run today. :)

I feel almost embarrassed to admit this... but I do train most days (and use a personal trainer) but we rarely specifically to abs (I need to shift a few pounds before I really work on those, especially if I'm paying for the session!) But I did buy a Slendertone ABS system on ebay from Ireland and use it most days for the past 4 weeks ...

My trainer saw my stomach for the first time in a while this week, and suddenly said 'wow! your abs are really starting to come out'. I don't know if it's the training or the Slendertone, but I aint stopping :)

And I quite like the sensation (does that make me weird???)...

Nope, when i was much younger and still in the gym, i always like those sensation of the muscles working. Mind you, i am not those super duper muscular type. I just like those feel, that your muscles are working and giving you the kind of defination you want. (If not, go gym for what, right?)

For now, as age is catching up plus some laziness, i do mostly swim and run. As for abs, apart from proper diet, crunches do help, but must be patient. :)

Hey JJKK, just wondering how much you paid for the slendertone device?

With all the festive eating and drinking, I've gained a fair bit of belly fat... it just suks, it is so darned tiring to do all those cardio exercises to burn fat, I'm hoping a slendertone gets me there sooner.

Would appreciate some info on the usage of the device.

Totally agree that you have must have enough cardio/ aerobic type of exercise. But this must be supplemented by other forms of exercise, correct diet, sufficient water, moderate alcohol (if you must) and sleep.

I have been running for years so that helps me to stay relatively trim. But I sit alot on job in office, in the plane etc... So in spite of the regular running, I had a tummy pouch. And I used to hate sit-ups...

All these changed when I have a life style change for a less stressful job. I have more time to go to the gym. I go about 5-6 times a week. Each time, I do short runs (20 -30 mins) at moderate - high speeds (10.8 - 13 km / hr), except weekends when my runs at minimum 45 mins. Yes, the ideal time should be minimum 30 - 40 mins but I dont think many people can afford that much time. Further, I do it almost daily so I can cut back on my weekday runs time periods.

To remove that tummy, I have to do sit-ups/ variations of stomach crunches. I try to do at least 50 sit-ups a day. I think the ideal minimum amount is 100 sit-ups. You can split it into 2 sessions, one session of 50 in the morning when you wake up; another in evening before you sleep. Trust me, it is not all that bad. Sit-ups have now become an integral part of my exercise regime. It is necessary to form core body strength and that is important for injury prevention. I took up light weights (starting from 10 pounders to now 35 pounds per arm). Weights are necessary to prevent muscle loss, firming up the body and attracting the boys!!! (LoL on the last reason!) Also, invest time in warm-ups and cool-downs; they become even more important as we age.....

I keep my carbos low especially for dinner, less than half a bowl of rice. Once a blue moon, I indulge over weekends. I love my pastas, ice creams, chocs, cakes, any good food etc. Drink plenty of water; cut down the coke if you can. Water is the best!

I just gotten SlenderTone from my friend who is not using it but batt spoil. Need to get a new one before I can use it ... Think it might work but still, need to watch diet.

I also imported Pengu from overseas ... cold laser ... this one seems work very slowly but need to see how the results over a few months ...

Other then exercising, also putting those slimming creams, etc ... I think the CNY and farewell dinners have produced a slightly larger then usual tummy ... ha ha

But in the end I guess we have to exercise ... perhaps we should form a tummy trimmer club ... ke ke ... then can motivate each other ...

Before You really want to venture getting a flat tummy or six packs etc..have you ever thought of detoxing yourself?

Inspite of all the cardios you have done..religious diets you have being observing, the copious amount of sit ups you have being doing, and all the expensive creams you may have bought...do you ever know that internally in our intestines, there are about 4.5kg of old unpurged faeces still clinging inside of us?

These 4.5kg of old unpurged waste not only causes a bulge at your tummy, causes built up of more toxins in us, it also slower your entire metabolism rate, your absorption rate and your entire body circulation.

I did an internal detox somewhere in mid Dec, lost about 6kg and 3inches off my waist, flat firm stomach, and from there you have to maintain.

For me long time ago I use products like Aloe from Forever living and Millenia but I think Millenia so far is the most effective in detox with no harmful stuff that 'over-cleans' your internals ... some detox pills I've also tried ... think I will go back to Millenia when the time is ripe ...

Basically you don't have to resort getting doctor's prescribed items to do some simple detoxification.

If you look around, simple organic stuff can do the trick quite effectively

1) If you mess the skin of the grapefruit, the rind when mix with distilled water, is actually not only a fat burner, the acidity removes the waste that are clinging onto the intestinal walls. Besides that, your body benefits from the nutrients and the vitamin C the rind provides

2) You can cut a large carrot into stripes, then place them into a tupperware. Then pour lemon or grapefruit juice, or both till you soak all the carrot strips. Place the items overnight in a fridge allowing the carrot stripes to absorb all the goodness of the juices. You can munch the stripes the next day, instead of snacking junk food.The process is tedious and tasteless, but it is an effective detox. Beside the smiliar benefits as the no 1, the fibre from the carrot pushes old waste out from your system.

3) You may have heard whats called the psyllium husk. It is the main cheap igredient found in many of your expensive commercial drink for detoxing and especially constipation. PH itself is very cheap. 500g is about $18-25 but you use only very little amount. it looks very much like your oats, but a contains a very high fibre. You need two table spoon of it, mixing with 1 litre of water. Give it a good stir, and when the contains are all mix well, quickly gobble it down, because it taste like digusting rice water. Everything when you drink this mixture , please drink more water than usual for its effectiveness. If you mix PH with water and leave it for awhile, what you will get is a thick gelatine substance, because of the high fibre. Thus when you drink this mixture, what actually happens it becomes a thick gelatine in your stomach. Thus the additional water you take in will further push this gelatine into your intestine and work its way through till it get expelled when you poo. As the gelatine stuff moves along the alimentary system, it pushes and drags along with it , all the wastes, old and new faeces, toxics. If you take it at night before you sleep, the next morning, you will be very disgusted and will be very disturbed by what you have just expelled. Althought my ass felt , I got raped and torn by King Kong's dick, but surprisingly, at the end, I felt so light and energetic inside.

So if you feel your intestine are so clogged, like an old clogged smelly sewage pipe, with all the grenny slimmy stuff, all just waiting to be released, its probably time to detox yourself.

BTW...of all the Chinese Tea, Pu er is the most effective in washing down the fats after an oily meal, plus it has slimming effect. Get the more expensive ones from specialized tea shops. The ones sold in NTUC are of poorer grade

I know that about a few years ago, when CLA was first discovered to burn fats and for weight loss, there is another side of the story very very few people are even aware of.

The concept of using CLA in weight loss , was using good oil to burn away and metabolizing the long-stored, bad stubborn fats in the body to use as fuel during workout.

CLA wil actually burn away any fats indiscriminately. But because of this nature, it has a strong tendency to even "burn" and erode the good oil, which are found in between bone joints, which are usually joint lubricants.

People who did not cycle off CLA from their diet programme but continued to prolong its usage up to 2months, will usually experience weakness and pain in their bone joints, especially in their spinal back, wrists and knee caps.

As it is mentioned, it literally erodes away the good oil which are lubricanting your joints.

Thus it is better to have a programme cycle when using CLA, and when you are on it, it is best to increase your glucosamine dosage, to prevent joint weakness, and even any possible pain.

I agree with the intestinal detox.

lost about 4kg from 80kg in December 2010 simply by drinking plenty of fluids and drinking this thing Malay calls "biji selasih"

it looks like tadpoles in water. but trust me after one week only physically I felt less lethargic etc.

I only started building up my core muscles by running and doing strength training kind of workouts.

once I'm comfortable with my 5min per km running pace I'm gonna get myself started for gym.

I bought the psylium husk after reading this post as I thought it would be a harmless way of detoxing since it is natural product. The first time i tried it, it really cleared my bowels good but none of "the huge lump of gelatine with very black to very dark brown waste. And it fxxking smells like smelly burnt charcoal. Or like you have just gave birth to a death rat" kind of excretion. Instead it was more "civilised", ie, no mudslide or whatsoever. However, I did went to the toilet a few more times that day, and I felt clean. But I feel I could have been cleaner... So, I took another dosage the following day... the next bowel movement wasnt until 24 hours later, this time less, but still a good dump! :)

Yesterday, I took it before I went to bed, I didnt go to the toilet until about 5pm today. Still a good load and I felt lighter. I wonder if I took it too often?

And yes, I felt a little dehydrated and had the urge to drink more water.

Will continue to take it, and I recommend it to those who want to try it. Afterall, it is 100% natural.

Went for a medical check up yesterday, and mentioned about this to the GP. She said, this is a good product to take, but always remember to drink plenty of water so as to soften the husk, if not enough water, it will go the "reverse" way, ie, the waste will harden and you will feel constipated...

Tot I share this here.

The doctor also said taking it regularly also helps to lower cholesterol level.

I am ht 172 wt 69...i think abit ovr wt. So will update u guys in 2 to 3 wks times whether it is good...i will do sit up in order to get the reak six pack!

You may try spirullina. I pee like crazy everytime I take it, after 1 hr. I pee like every 10mins. Just started taking it for two weeks. Its amazingly good. Natural source of vitamins, minerals iron. It cleanses your system Some people may experience more regular bowel moment.

But I dont suffer from dehydration. It just detox the entire body system. Don't know why, I realized I slim down a lot recently esp round the waist and face. Even My friends told me that my face looks so much sharper and scupltured.

Skin more clear. Body more tone less water retaintion.

For sportmen, if you combine spirullina 6-8g daily with one essential item, your energy level can go up amazing high. You hardly feel drained after your workout.
