Yes in some countries like Myanmar, most of the men wear sarongs but they tie it differently from how it is tied in South East Asian countries. They pull the bottom end up to the knees before tying the top end into a knot around the waist.

Most sarong wearing, including South Asians don't use underwears, the most some use tiny piece of loin cloth when they shower in their open air 'shower' area.
