I guess the many doors policy is confined to what the landlord is comfy with, his home his rule. Easy for anyone to say die today or one week later also no diff. Guess what, the hassle and trouble that comes with it is huge. As an ex civil servant i have witness first hand. 

 

As for the socializing part, a simple small talk, hi's and hello's wont hurt right? Not asking for tenants to spill any beans but just to have a gauge that you are fine and ok.
