i am not sure if it is just me... but running topless used to be nothing short of normal for many of us back in the 80s and 90s. but looking at the points highlighted and the many people talking about it, it seemed like many people these days feel rather shy about it. and frankly, looking at the trends of posting, people these days seemed to be afraid of showing their bodies. just look at the number of people in this thread as well as other discussions such as bathing naked in swimming pools, open concept swimming pools etc...

or is it a manifestation of the general increased perception threat to masculinity amongst males?

hmmmm.... anyone any thoughts?

You're right in saying that guys back in the 80s & 90s didn't think much about running topless. The past few years have seen guys beefing it up in the gym for a number of reasons, i.e. to maintain a healthy level of fitness, body-building/sculpting, to attract a potential partner for keeps/fun, etc. Manhunt, '8 Days Shirtless Guys', A&F's walking advertisements, too, publicize an image that guys perceive to be a level they should attain or aspire to. I won't be hypocritical to say that I'm not one of them, but at least I can say my initial motivation was to shed the pounds.

As a result, the average Singaporean man might feel that he doesn't measure up to the perceived standard, and deigns not to bare his upper body in public, which can be interpreted as being self-conscious of his physical image. Frankly, it can be daunting/intimidating for some people who associate self-confidence with self-image.

Personally, I don't exactly have an awesome or "drool-worthy" bod, but I continue to run topless, simply because it's natural to me.

It's perfectly alright to run topless in the heartlands at any time of the day. No one isn't going to stop you just because you're clad only in running shorts. I usually head down topless from my flat for my night runs, and there've not been any complaints. The local authorities will not book you either (for running topless in tights), unless your actions constitute indecent behaviour to the general public.

It's a relatively common sight to see guys running topless at places such as the MacRitchie Reservoir and East Coast Park. No one isn't going to book you just because you run topless in your NSF unit before or after office hours.

Above all, what matters is that you're comfortable with your body and enjoy your runs. Cheers!

thanks for all the information guys. just wanted to be careful of the environment. dont wanna offend anyone. will definitely check out these places. in my camp, ive seen some guys train topless. running and even in the gym. i think its a little more relaxed when it comes to rules in the camp in comparison to public gyms and running outside. it would be cool if public gyms allowed guys to workout topless at least in the free weights area.

i think its increasingly becoming more and more difficult for guys to reach a certain image. its like every guy now has to have a muscular frame with a six-pack. its no longer something special but smtg required of guys, at least in this time and age. the media constantly projects images of guys who look close to perfect. thus, most guys feel if they dont fit that ideal, they need to shy away.

i think whats most important is to eat healthy and workout. not just train solely so you can have a 6-pack. overall fitness and well-being is what will follow you in the long run.

It depends on which army camp too. There was once I went to Hendon Camp (commando camp), and I feasted my eyes on the hot guys shirtless everywhere, running, playing sports, gyming, doing repairing/carpenting work etc. I was from an air force camp (or rather, air defense camp, but same difference), so I don't get to see such/much/any hotness in my camp.

On a related topic, when guys run topless, it would be a joy to look at them if they also wear their shorts really low waist. I noticed the younger guys nowadays are very comfortable in wearing their shorts very low, sometimes allowing people to see the V-shaped lines going down to their crotch. I think it is extremely seductive. Especially if their bodies are all sweaty. Some with underwear band exposed but for some, I don't see any sign of their underwear even while their shorts are worn low. I do that myself whenever I run topless. I wear my shorts fairly low so long as my pubic hair is not exposed.

Hi, I used to run topless n when u pass ppl, can see them staring at u, some with mouth opened ... also, when I wash my car or work out topless at some park exercise stations, will c some ppl standing ard, laying down on benches, etc, & sometimes c them playing with their handphone ... which looks to me like they're taking pics of me with my sweaty body in d sun ... kinda a turn on somehow

For me, the best time to run topless is 4-6 pm when the sun is not so hot and shiny anymore.... Getting a short that can show off the V-line down to my crotch and tight enough to show off my butt.... And I usually run for 75 mins... I can not make sure that your body has enough sweat to release for 75 mins, so the best choice is using tanning oil before you go out for jogging.... The main purpose is the tanning oil mixed with your sweat will make your skin shine under the sun and the sun at 4-6 pm can not burn your skin but can help you to burn fat faster....

And if you are confident enough of your body, the best "show" is from Outrampark to Queenstown where there are lot of cars and pedestrians moving and also there are a lot of traffic lights to allow me to stop for while to recover my energy and to show off my body at the same time ..... I used to pass the swimming pool near Redhill and got one car running behind me and "Pim Pim" me... I thought that was police and scared for a while, but Thanks GOD, that was a guy who knew "Who I am", and then a best fxxking in his house then.... LOL... Yes always horny after running and really beg for someone to fxxk me good... LOL

Those are multi-benefits you can get from shirtless jogging...LOL

True to say tht back in the 80s & 90s, u tend to see more topless guys in the public. U can see them running and doing sports topless, walk to the nearby provision shop & hawker ctr topless, walking ard their park topless or washing their car topless. Even u can see those workers doing revovation in houses topless.

But nowdays seldom get to see topless guys which i have mentioned above. Esp workers in revovation work in houses, maybe those workers now are mostly foreigners, which they are shy to be topless?!

I personally still think being topless esp during sports nothing to be shy, esp if u have toned bod.

I dunno about the 80s. Too young then. But certainly in 90s got more shirtless guys regardless body type. And i always find them yummy. Especially shirtless guys washing their cars, or workers doing renovation. Nowadays most don't wash their own cars anymore.

Went for a run yesterday evening. Disappointed that not even a single shirtless jogger. Even very fit guys are wrapped up. Haizz. In the end I took off my singlet and ran lol. Nice feeling.

Its quite sad.. but I wish Singapore would be more shirtless friendly. There was a guy who got stomped for eating at a foodcourt shirtless. In other countries, shirtlessness is so common that you find "no shirts, no shoes, no service" signs on some stores..

I once saw a pictures of a shirtless hunk drinking coffee at starbucks on trevy.. if only we could do that here in Singapore without fear of being stomped!

All those blog and websites seems like are from ang moh countries. Dun think can find any of such website in s'pore. Even have think pple will find it "prevert" or the website cld be for gays only?! Seriously dun think str8 guys in s'pore will be so serious in shirtless until they host a blog, forum or website to discuss abt it.

If the running shorts comes with inner lining and if i dun cut away the lining, usually i wld not wear any briefs under the shorts cos so uncomfortable. But usually i will cut away the lining, then will wear briefs under the shorts. If the running material is thin, must wear cos if the shorts got wet by sweats, it will looks very "expose"!

I agree, if u plan to run topless from start and if u r running near ur hse, shld go leave hm topless. Pointless to take off and carry ur top on ur hand.

Anyway, read one news article 2 days ago. It happened somewhere near big splash ECP. One 40 yr old doc running along tht area in the afternoon, suddenly got stopped by a passer-by guy who asked him for direction, and later the guy went deeper and introduce himself and also asked the doctor name, then out of the sudden asked the doctor can he perform oral sex on him! And the doctor got so scare until he ran as fast as he cld!

When the newspaper interview the doctor, he said due to hot weather he always run topless, but he dun think this the reason which attracted "prevert" guy, although he feels tht his body not very muscular but afterall still consider not bad. The doctor also said the other time when he ran in the night, he also got approached by a stranger guy telling him he likes his body!!!

If the running place is infront of ur hse, it is practical to leave the shirt behind and leave ur hse w/o ur shirt. Sometimes it is quite troublesome to hold on to ur shirt while u run, unless u r using ur shirt to wipe off ur sweat, then maybe holding ur shirt to run is useful.

But i still find pple in heartlander still not very open seeing topless guys! Imagine after u have finished ur run and ur body is drenched wet in ur sweat, and maybe ur running shorts is also wet with ur sweat and as if u have pee in ur shorts. When u r taking the lift with pple, somehow i find they will feel uncomfortable or staring at u as if u r some "prevert"!

I agree. Heartlanders are not so used to see topless guys jogging...I get stares all the time.

Fortunately I don't stay high up. In the end of my run, I would usually use the stairs than sharing lifts and making my neighbors uncomfortable.
